Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• All Concrete Light Pole Bases have been installed

• Continue installing underground conduit to site lighting pole bases

• Continue concrete footings in Administration Area C

• Begin installing masonry walls in Kitchen, Mechanical, and Gymnasium areas

• Installing underground plumbing in the Kitchen

• Installing underground electrical in the main electrical room

District Office

• Mrs. Snider and Mr. Ripley attended the GulfPort grantee dinner where Harrison Hills was presented with a check for bike racks for the new school facility.

• The superintendent attended the Junior High and Varsity volleyball banquets.

• District secretaries, EMIS coordinator, truancy prevention officer, and the superintendent attended the HB 410 meeting where the new attendance laws were reviewed.

• Mr. Eddy and Mrs. Harding worked with Ohio School Plan for final information for filing of insurance claim concerning a lightning strike at 2 of our locations over the summer.

• The fiscal department finalized all numbers for the closing of the MIECHV federal grant (Help Me Grow) for fiscal year 2017.

• The treasurer provided information for the annual update to the district’s Official Statement related to the school bonds.

• Brick samples continue to be dropped off at the new school.

• Mr. Ripley and Mr. Morgan met with SHP representatives on the sample mock walls.

• The assistant superintendent attended IEP reviews inside and outside of the district.

• Mr. Morgan attended the Library Board of Trustees meeting.

• The assistant superintendent met with professionals concerning related services.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Seniors Rebekah Hobbs and Christan Dowdel are pictured with a display they created for Sally Buffalo’s Christmas decorations.

• Senior volleyball players celebrated their season with teammates, coaches, and parents at the end of season banquet.

• Students worked on French & Indian War battle recreations in class with Mr. Hayes.

• Jr. High Volleyball players wrapped up season with their banquet.

• Ten seniors participated in Kent State Tuscarawas’ Honors Symposium on Tuesday. Students were able to meet with professors, tour classrooms, and applied to Kent for free.

• Sophomores, juniors, and seniors competed with students from across Ohio to show off their Americanism and Government skills. The top 18 from Ohio will win a trip to Washington D.C. in March. Also, the top male and female contestant in each grade will receive a $50 bond at the awards assembly in the spring. Mike Bower from the Scio American Legion Post helped administer the test with Ms. Doren.

• A Veterans Day Assembly was held on Friday to honor veterans here and gone. 64 students read names and descriptions of 64 Harrison County veterans killed in action and the band and choir performed. Jim Thompson from the Harrison County Veterans Service Office was the keynote speaker and four WWII veterans were in attendance along with members of the Cadiz American Legion.

Harrison East Elementary

• Mrs. Yeager’s kindergarten class learned the right way to make a 911 emergency call thanks to D.A.R.E. officer, Deputy Tony Sedgmer.

• Pictured below are 2nd grade students Leah Rapp, Kolton Mizer, McKynze Bryant, Aubrie Moss, and Hunter Snyder proudly showing off their trophies earned as their goals were met!

• Mrs. VanCamp has been busy getting ready for the holiday season. Pictured below is Harrison East’s own hand-painted gem that will be displayed at Sally Buffalo for the annual Christmas Card Lane.

• Harrison East staff was welcomed this week with a surprise announcement from the Ohio Department of Education. Harrison East Elementary School has received the distinguished honor of being selected as one of the nine schools in the state of Ohio to be a state finalist for the National Title I Distinguished School award. Two of the nine schools nominated will be selected by our state to receive this prestigious award.

Harrison North Elementary

• Spot lighting good behavior!

• 5th graders work on drafting a Compact before they disembark from their ships as part of their annual Pilgrim Simulation.

• Second grade students created sugar skulls in art class with Ms. Vancamp.

• Student nurses Elise and Daniel from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio demonstrated proper hand washing to kindergarten students to show them how to get rid of germs. Elise and Daniel are doing a clinical rotation with our school district nurse Holli Kulow.

• Ms. Vancamp and students created a Christmas card for along Christmas Card Lane at Sally Buffalo Park.

• Staff and students participated in lock down, fire, and evacuation drills this week.

• On November 10, 2017 Mr. Zantene and the Scio American Legion presented a Veteran’s Day Program to the students, staff, and community at Harrison North Elementary School. When the program was over 6th grade students gave cards to veterans thanking them for their service. Students exited the program by thanking the veterans in attendance for their service.

• Students created art work with Ms. Vancamp in honor of Veteran’s Day.
