New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• Concrete site lighting pole bases have all been installed.

• Continue installing conduit between site lighting concrete pole bases.

• Completed masonry foundations in the Administration building area.

• Installed deep underground plumbing in the Administration building area.

• Currently installing foundation insulation and compacted backfill in the Administration building area.

• Installed door frames at the gymnasium area.

• Building masonry walls at the gymnasium area.

• Installing plumbing underground in the locker rooms.

• Installing underground electrical at the main electrical room and kitchen areas.

District Office

• Board of Education members and District Office Administration attended the Ohio School Boards Association conference.

• The new facilities CORE meeting was held on site where brick displays were viewed and building progress was presented.

• The November Board of Education meeting was held and Dan Milleson spoke about his upcoming bid for State Representative. Also Harrison East was recognized for being selected as a School of Honor and one of nine schools nominated for National Title I Distinguished School Award. Two schools from Ohio will receive this award.

• Mrs. Snider and Mr. Morgan attended the boys' and girls' soccer banquet.

• Meeting held with special education faculty in preparation for the BHJVSD meeting

• Meeting held with SHP in relation to the planning of the track facility.

• Meeting held with the ECOESC regarding related services.

• Meeting held with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio.

• Collaboration with the Department of Education regarding teaching licensure.

• The auditor of state’s office notified the district that they are wrapping up the FY17 audit. Once the Auditor of State’s office does its final review, they will officially release it.

• The treasurer and construction manager worked together to get all paperwork and payment ready for AEP in order to get power ran to the building site.

• After 5 months of use, the paperless system for purchasing and invoicing is a success. The efficiency is being applauded by all.

• District safety meetings were reinstated. Thank you to those on the safety committee for your attendance.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• HC Volleyball’s Sarah Fink was selected 2nd Team District 5 All Stars, Audrey Corder received honorable mention, and Lyndsey Hennis was selected 1st team District 5 All Stars! Sarah & Lyndsey also played in the OVAC All Star game on Sunday. Good job!

• Juniors in Scholars Government walked to the Court House on Monday afternoon to meet with county officials to better understand their job descriptions. Pictured above is Judge Puskarich with students in the court room.

• Alex Wiley signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Wheeling Jesuit!

• J.R. Heavilin signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Coppin State!

• Mr. Jones took students to visit the Ohio Tree Farm of the Year near Tippicanoe on Friday.

• Senior soccer players were honored at their end of season banquet.

• The boys basketball team helped host biddy basketball camp.

• Division IV Football First Team: Tyler West, Ronnie Bowers, DeJuan Caldwell

• Division IV Football Second Team: Isaiah White

• Division IV Special Mention: Caden Arbaugh, Lindsey Ball, Wyatt Elias, Caden Dalton, Cale McAfee

• Teacher Based Teams did another round of peer observations.

Harrison East Elementary

• Good Job Brylee Nichols for reading 100 books on Epic!

• Dirk Harkins was the guest speaker at East’s annual Veteran’s Day program. Around 15 veterans came for a “meet and greet” with 5th grade students. Students were able to learn more about the life of the men and women who have served our country. Pictured below are students celebrating!

Neely Ryder, Aubrey Coffman, and Evan Johnson

• 6th grade student doing reading skills presentations. Students prepared for their classmates. Joanna Manbeck, Clayton Vermillion, and Nick Fluharty taught summarizing using videos, songs, visuals and as their formative assessment they had their peers complete a summary of a short story.

• Preschool staff attended a Professional Development workshop at Indian Creek Middle School. They examined understanding what Applied Behavior Analysis, ABA, and to use methods to support children in the classroom.

• Fourth grade social studies students learn how early colonists were unfairly taxed by King George II and they were able to empathize with the American Colonists.

Harrison North Elementary

• On Wednesday, November 15 Preschool teachers and Preschool educational aides attended a professional development on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). They learned how to utilize Applied Behavior Analysis methods to support children in their classrooms. This professional development was held at Indian Creek Middle School.

• Sargent Zantene made a surprise visit to Miss Tipton’s 2nd grade classroom to see Nellie Patterson. At the Veteran’s Day program Nellie gave Sargent Zantene a card thanking him for his service to our country. He was very touched by her card and read it at an event held at the Scio Legion. He came and delivered a thank you card to Nellie and an American Flag. While there the students were asking him about the items on his shirt and hat, so he took a few minutes to tell them about those things also.

• Miss Tipton’s 2nd grade class had a guest reader on Friday, November 17. Kathy Miser came to visit with them. She is a retired teacher from Harrison Hills. She told the students she taught for 35 years. She told them she spends a lot of time enjoying her five grandchildren now. She read them four Thanksgiving books: The Story of the Pilgrims, Oh What a Thanksgiving, We Gather Together Now Please Get Lost, and The Night Before Thanksgiving. She also left them a few Thanksgiving activity sheets to complete.
