New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• Continue setting door frames as well as plumbing/HVAC/electrical rough-ins as the masonry walls are constructed.

• Planning to begin final underground electrical rough-in at the kitchen as weather permits.

• Building the lower level exterior masonry bearing walls at the administration/middle school wing of the building.

• Detailing structural steel over the kitchen, student dining, and main electrical room.

• Erecting precast concrete floor slabs over the locker room and administration areas.

• Setting site lighting poles and light fixtures.

• AEP has completed installation of temporary electricity to the school site.

District Office

• Mrs. Snider and Ms. Birney teamed with the ESC and representatives from Indian Creek, Buckeye Local, Toronto, and Southern Local to write a Consortium Literacy Grant.

• Mrs. Snider attended the Cadiz Business Association meeting where a presentation was heard from an investment firm.

• The superintendent received word that the Cadiz Post Office located outside the district office SHOULD be open by the end of the month.

• Core team members Mrs. Snider, Mrs. Harding, Mr. Ripley, Mr. Eddy, Mr. Madzia, and Mr. Allen met to review brick selection, progression of work, and utility installation.

• Ohio Department of Health will being doing a desk review for one of the Help Me Grow grants. The fiscal department is gathering all information needed to meet the March 2, 2018 deadline.

• The final numbers are in. The goal for the first Wellness Initiative for the district was to for a 50% participation rate for 2017. We exceeded that goal by reaching a 59% participation rate. The district is continuing with a wellness program for 2018 and encouraging all staff to get involved.

• Mr. Morgan attended Senior Night on Wednesday 2/14 for our graduating wrestlers; congratulations and best wishes!

• Mr. Morgan attended the Harrison Career Center for special education reviews on Monday 2/12 and Tuesday 2/13

• Mr. Morgan attended the Puskarich Public Library System Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday 2/14

• Mr. Morgan led special education reviews at Harrison Central on Friday, 2/16

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with our senior resource officer and District Office Administration in review of safety and security procedures and protocol

• Mr. Morgan was accompanied by Ms. Roski in leading a meeting at Harrison Central with all intervention specialists this week.

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with Mrs. Gibson and Mr. Parker on student enrollment

• Mr. Morgan continued ongoing collaboration with related services personnel

• Mr. Morgan collaborated on student success with community stakeholders

• Mr. Ripley attended two webinars on routing with Transfinder.

• Mr. Ripley and Mrs. Snider met to discuss square footage of the new building

• The Spring trip meeting will be held on March 1st at 6 PM in the professional development room at the district office.

• Information technology department continued to review tech drawings and specs for the new facility.

• Mr. Eddy continues to work on Erate funding for the new facility.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Mr. Dunlap had thirty families attended the CCP meeting Monday evening. These families learned the process of earning college credits.

• STUDENTS OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY! Juliana Unterzuber (7th Grade), Josh Donahue (8th Grade), Mackenzie Jurosko (Social Studies), Paul Forrester (Science), Stephania DiMichele (Math), Alexee McAfee (English), Victoria Morrison (Elective)

• Seniors Tonya Moodie, Kali Carter, and Austin Chappell hosted a glow dance for 5th & 6th graders for their senior project. Look at them glow!

• Thank you to Harrison County Juvenile Court for sponsoring speaker Chris Herren.

• Congrats to junior high wrestlers for winning the small school BMC championship!!

• Congratulations to Josh Croft on a 220lb weight class win at the Buckeye 8 Championship!

• Musical flowers were purchased and delivered this week to help fund students wanting to attend the HOBY leadership conference this summer. The group raised over $100 toward the trip.

• Bo Jacobs “Yellow Wolf” visited Ms. McIntosh’s American Conflicts class to talk to students about Native American tribes, their local history, and their involvement in conflicts.

• Seniors Sarah Fink, Shaniel Nameth, Becca Boyer, and Katie Heavilin hosted a Valentine’s Day dance at Gable’s Care Center on Wednesday for their senior project. They decorated, provided snacks, and gave the residents goody bags filled with candy, puzzles, stickers, and other small treats. The King and Queen were crowned by receiving the bag with a golden bow. Fun was had by all!

• Senior wrestlers Owen Ott and Coleman Dodds were honored for their years spent with the Harrison Central wrestling program.

Harrison East Elementary

• Love and good guesses were in the air recently at East’s library. Mrs. Beadling had students guess how many Hershey kisses tall they were, they played Valentine Bingo, and students were able to take conversation heart guesses. Students loved the chocolatey treats! Conversation heart guessing jar winners from first grade JaxTriplett, Colston Kirkpatrick and Andy Hendershot.

• Carolynee Stull was the lucky winner of our Valentine surprise for eating in cafeteria!

• Mrs. Paul’s 6th grade social studies took advantage of the Valentine’s Day to learn about economics and commerce. They sold “candy-grams” that were distributed to various students as a loving Valentine’s Day treat. Pictured below is Skylar DeMarco and Maizy Langoeher manning the booth for candy grams

• Some of our students’ creative and festive Valentine’s Day boxes.

• Special thanks to Savannah Sweeny, mom of kindergarten student Keagan Rice, for making extra Valentine's Day boxes for any student who might not have one. The beautiful boxes are pictured below.

• 3rd grade is having a ball learning about generalizations, James Naismith -the inventor of BASKETBALL. They are also discovering the genre of biography.

• This week Harrison East, along with our PTO, had the joy of honoring over 180 students for the achievements during the second 9-week grading period. Students were recognized for perfect attendance, Honor Roll, and Principal’s list.

• On February 16th Harrison East teachers welcomed parents to our second parent-teacher conference of the school year. Teachers met, either in person or by phone conference, with over 260 parents.
