Harrison East Elementary

• On Friday, April 6th, the 3rd-6th grade 21st Century Enrichment students performed their annual "cooking day". The students worked on the cooking unit for 2 1/2 weeks prior to cooking. During that time they had to do some brainstorming, select a recipe, list all ingredients and supplies in order to make a shopping list, they had to shop with photos for the ingredients and then total the cost for the recipe, they had to write a step-by-step recipe, they had to cut the recipe in and then 2 1/2 times it, then during the cooking they had to take pictures of each step performed in the recipe. On Monday, the students will import their pictures into their step-by-step recipes and then each group will print their recipe and share a copy with every student. To wrap up the project, the students will put together a cookbook that they will take home. 13 different recipes were created from wedding soup, pizza, and hash brown and bacon skillet, to cake pops, dirt pudding, and rainbow layered vanilla fudge, and strawberry whipped cheesecake. The students all gathered at the end of the day and feasted on the delicious foods they created. The students worked very hard!

• Mrs. McAfee’s 2nd grade class has been working on cursive writing!

• Ms. Van Camp classes’ have been working on a community service project to promote Autism Awareness. Students have been collecting various plastic bottle and container caps all year and had the opportunity to use power tools to assemble the sign. The faces they made as they drilled were priceless.
