New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

The new facility drive-around with be held on may 19th. from 3-7. Plan to attend to receive information about the new school and a small memento.

 

Looking ahead, this will be an active summer on the construction site.  Dozens of workers will be on site daily, and the full footprint of the building will start to take shape. 

Foundation work has completed in the two-story high school wing and continues in the future elementary wing. Masonry contractors are currently constructing masonry walls in the high school wing, elementary school wing, kitchen, PE gymnasium, multi-use PR room and mechanical area. Door frames, electrical, underground plumbing and HVAC installation and rough-ins continue as areas of foundation and walls are constructed and completed. Roofing contractors have completed the metal decking and roof over the kitchen area and have moved on to the student dining area.

The structural steel has been erected in the kitchen, student dining, and the administration wing. The trades are also installing stone sub base, vapor barriers and wire reinforcement in the administration area in preparation for the concrete slab on grade. Work continues to progress on schedule!

  • Foundations are complete in the main electrical room, kitchen, gymnasiums, locker rooms, administration areas and two-story high school wing with progress continuing in elementary school wing
  • Masonry block construction completed in the administration wing, varsity gym and locker room areas, with continued work in the PE gymnasium, multi-use room, high school wing, middle school wing, and elementary school wing.
  • Door frames, electrical, plumbing and HVAC installation and rough-in work continues as masonry walls progress
  • Interior masonry walls have begun in select areas of the building
  • Continue elementary school wing concrete foundation installation.
  • Performed masonry foundation installation at the north side of the elementary school wing.
  • Continue installation of permanent electrical service.
  • Continue underground sanitary pipe installation in the high school wing.
  • Overhead electrical rough in at the athletic area.
  • HVAC ductwork installation in the athletic area.
  • Completed concrete slab on grade installation in the administration area.
  • Install masonry CMU at the first floor of the high school wing.
  • Begin roof truss installation of the gymnasium and athletic area.
  • Begin plumbing locker room rough in.
 

District Office

  • Administration and Board of Education members met with Harrison County officials regarding economic development.
  • Administration and Board of Education members attended the Dining Fork Ruritan Scholarship Recognition Dinner for Harrison Central Students.
  • Mrs. Snider and Mr. Ripley attended the transportation meeting.
  • HHTA negotiations were tentatively completed and awaiting membership ratification.
  • Mrs. Snider and Mrs. Harding attended the OMERESA regional meeting where next year's rates were presented.
  • Mrs. Snider attended the ESC's Superintendent Cabinet.
  • Mrs. Snider read to Miss Tipton's second grade.
  • Mr. Morgan collaborated with Harrison Central administration regarding graduation.
  • Mr. Morgan collaborated with faculty regarding visionary planning for 2018-2019 and beyond.
  • Monitored state assessment completion rates.
  • Mrs. Harding has been working on the 5 year forecast that must be revised and approved by the board of education before June 1.
  • Preparations have begun for the close of the fiscal year.  Mrs. Carter is working on inventory, with update sheets to be submitted to the buildings.  Mrs. Clements is inputting information concerning new contracts.  Mrs. Harding has been reviewing and verifying all information is correct for all the federal and state grants.
  • Mr. Ripley and Mr. Albaugh met with a roofing representative concerning a leaking roof at Harrison North.
  • Mr. Ripley visited Beaver Local Schools to meet with administration and cafeteria/janitorial workers about job structures and to gain ideas on our new facility.
  • Mr. Ripley held the last safety meeting at Harrison East Elementary.Thank you to everyone for your attendance and contribution to the safety committee.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

 

  • The Ruritan Academic Honors Banquet is held on a yearly basis to recognize students in Grades 9-12 in Harrison County who have a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the current school year. This year 177 students were recognized for their academic efforts!!!

The above students received scholarships in the amount of $500.

  • Mr. Dunlap and Ms. Doren walked students through scheduling for next year.

  • Congratulations to our five Huskies who were selected to attend the iBelieve Leadership camp this summer! Jasmine Arnold, Becca Banks, Kelsi Johnson, Abby Jozwaik, and Shae Saffell will spend a week learning leadership skills, interacting with students from other schools across the state, and getting a taste of the college experience.

  • Senior band members celebrated an end to their high school careers on Sunday.


  • Bailey Eberhart was chosen to be the 2018-2019 Ohio FFA Reporter. He will be 1 of 11 who will be representing almost 26,000 members in the state of Ohio! Congratulations, Bailey!!

Harrison North Elementary

  • Fifth graders experienced a thrilling simulation of the Underground Railroad at Camp Muskingum on Leesville Lake.  They are pictured running to a safe house and entering the cellar to hide from a "copperhead," also known as a slave hunter.  This field trip was made possible by a grant through the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio.   

  • The students in Mrs. Turner's first grade class made bread together after reading "The Little Red Hen." The students then wrote a how to piece on the steps of making bread. 

   

  • Kindergarten registration was held at Harrison North on May 4, 2018. 

  • Miss Tipton’s second grade had a guest reader on Friday, May 4.  Mrs. Snider was the guest reader.  She read books about spring to the students.  The students enjoyed the visit. 

  • Kindergarteners are blooming into 1st graders.

Harrison East Elementary

 

  • Kindergarten recently enjoyed an exciting field trip to the Center for Music and Arts in Wintersville.  The students got to learn about flower and then they created one.  They learned about musical notes and even got to play with their parachute. 

  • 2nd grader, Evie Richards reached in AR goal of 175 points!!  Great Job, Evie!

  • Miss Bethel’s 5th grade math students took advantage of the warming temperatures and took their year-end projects outside to work on and enjoy some sunshine at the same time.

  • Mrs. Paul’s 6th grade social studies classes have been discovering many interesting facts about ancient civilizations.  Students have been creating works of art to explain how the ancient people lived and died.  Pictured below are Lorraine Kellermier and Rylee Smith displaying their creations.

  • Parents, grandparents, family, and friends recently came to hear the 4th grade present on their 20% Project.  Students put a lot of thought, planning, and hard work into presenting on a subject that they felt very passionate about.  Topics ranged from protecting endangered species, helping the homeless, to learning a foreign language.  Students created displays and presented in front of an audience.  Thanks to all those who supported our 4th graders!

  • Mrs. Stinespring’s 1st grade class has been studying about caterpillars and butterflies and the transformation they undergo.  They had a celebration as they released them and let them fly away.
