Three Generations Attend New Facility Drive Around

• Continue elementary school wing concrete and masonry foundation installation.

• Begin masonry bearing wall installation in the elementary school wing.

• Continue installation of permanent electrical service.

• Continue underground sanitary pipe installation in the high school wing.

• Overhead electrical rough in at the administration area.

• HVAC ductwork installation in the administration area.

• Continue masonry CMU at the first floor of the high school wing.

• Detailing of roof trusses at the gymnasium and athletic areas.

• Continue plumbing locker room rough in.

• Install masonry bearing CMU at the second story of the administration/middle school area.

• Completed steel and metal roof deck installation and detailing at the student dining.

• Continue roofing installation over the elementary school student dining.

• Completed interior masonry installation in the kitchen and student dining areas.

• Began metal stud wall installation in the administration area.

District Office

• Administrators and Board of Education members attended the New Facility Drive Around held Saturday May 19th. from 3-7 PM.

• Mrs. Snider and Mr. Morgan attended Harrison Central's annual awards ceremony.

• I would like to thank fourth grade North Elementary teachers Mrs. Agostina and Mrs. Knight for the invitation to your class's Wax Museum. What a wonderful job the students did portraying their historical figures!

• Mrs. Snider attended the East Elementary choir and band concert. Thank you to Mr. Dan Erbacher for your dedication to our students.

• Best wishes to retirees Dan Erbacher and Marsha Coulson.

• Mrs. Snider and Mr. Morgan attended the FFA banquet.

• Mrs. Snider, Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Harding and Mr. Ripley attended the junior/senior beam signing of the new school and the Saturday New Facility Drive Around.

• Best wishes to Don Jones on his political journey.

• Mrs. Snider attended the Softball Banquet. Good luck to the seven seniors!

• Mr. Morgan met with related services personnel in planning for 2018-2019

• The Harrison Hills District Leadership Team met and discussed student progress and visionary planning for future years

• Mr. Morgan attended meetings at the Harrison Career Center

• Mrs. Hajiran and Mr. Morgan collaborated on student progress at Harrison East Elementary

• Mr. Morgan and Ms. Birney led a planning session for the upcoming year at Harrison East

• Mrs. Harding is working with Strategic Solutions to make many forms, used by the district, electronic. The goal is to have it up and running prior to the start of the new school year.

• Fiscal has been working with staff concerning leave and benefits.

• Mr. Ripley and Mrs. Harding met with Nutrition Group to review this past years performance in the cafeteria. In addition, a contract was reviewed for next school year.

• Mr. Ripley and Mrs. Harding met with Kim Ohler from the Nutrition Group.

• Mr. Ripley attended a transportation seminar.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Athletes from the high school went to Harrison North to read books to the second graders provided by the 2nd and 7 Foundation.

• Students in the SADD program helped pack the blessings in a backpack.

• Pictured is senior Juliana Rose receiving the Jimmy Ward Scholarship. Tuesday was a celebratory day for seniors and their parents as many received scholarships and recognition for their dedication to success over the last four years.

• The students pictured will be participating in the Showcase of Bands this summer.

• Mr. Hayes took his 8th grade students to the courthouse on Wednesday for a mock trial.

• Students in Mrs. Taylor’s Forensics class were finishing up crime scenes for their final projects.

• Students in Mrs. Davidson’s AP Language spent a day in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Museum.

• Alex Barcroft held a clothing drive at the high school for her community based project.

• Congratulations to all 7th & 8th grade students who participated in the math tournament. The following students placed in their category: Nathan Bertolino 6th, Maddy Bender 5th, Vincent Yang 3rd, Leah Cottrell 3rd. Good job!

• Seniors signed a beam that will be going in the new school.

• Seniors met with Pre-K grads at East and 4th grade students doing a wax museum project at North while doing their Senior Walk on Friday.

Harrison North Elementary

• Congratulations to the Class of 2018!

• Preschool created a field of poppies mural with Ms. Vancamp during Art class.

• Harrison Central High School athletes came to Harrison North to read to 2nd graders. The 2nd graders received free books titled “The Hog Molies and the Big Birthday Bash” from The 2nd and 7 Foundation out of Columbus Ohio. The 2nd and 7 Foundation mission is to promote reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while encouraging young athletes in the community to pay it forward.

• Ladies from the Puskarich Public Library visited Harrison North on May 14, 2018. They provided a presentation about their summer reading program.

• We had our spring music program on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Students in grades first, third, and fifth grade performed, along with fifth and sixth grade band.

• At the end of the spring music program practice we honored Mr. Erbacher since he is retiring at the end of this school year. Best of Luck in your retirement Mr. Erbacher.

• The Jewett Learning center came for a tour of Harrison North. Incoming kindergarten students from the school got the chance to visit kindergarten classrooms that they will be in next year.

• Students in grades preschool through second enjoyed a fun day on May 16, 2018.

• Students in Ms. Vancamp’s art class made tiles as gifts for cancer survivors for the Harrison County Relay for Life.

• Students in Mrs. Turner's and Mrs. Soos' first grade classes released their butterflies that they observed from caterpillars. The students wrote in journals and read informational text about the metamorphosis of a caterpillar this spring.

• 4th grade presented An American Hero Wax Museum. Students could view the museum in the morning, as well as parents in the afternoon.

• Harrison Central seniors did a walk thru at Harrison North. Congratulation and Good Luck Class of 2018!

• Nurse Holli Kulow educating the 5th grade students on Health & Hygiene.

• Preschool students from Harrison North visit the kindergarten classrooms to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Harrison East Elementary

• Thank you Harrison East Elementary for raising a total of $2,000 for Autism Awareness. Your generous donations will be used to help children with Autism. Mr. Bengier’s 4th grade class raised $342 and won the “Blue Party”. Mrs. Elliott’s 1st grade class came in 2nd place raising $230 and Mrs. McAfee’s 2nd grade class came in 3rd raising $146.

• 2nd grade star readers this week are Brylee Nichols, 100 AR points; Katie Cumings, 200 AR points; and Emerson Wood and Leah Rapp both reaching 100 AR points!

• Mrs. Tammy Starr had the opportunity to again take a group of 12 talented 6th graders to the annual Math Tournament. Pictured below are (first row) Julia Doty, Skylar DeMarco, Maizy Langeohr, Rylee Smith, and Alex Dickey. Back row students are Brooke Sullivan, Katherine Shearer, Alex Dray, Kat Carman, Nic Malone, Bryce Wallace, and James Jewell.

• Third grade had a great time on their field trip to Carnegie Science Center.

• Harrison East welcomed linemen from Muskingham - Guernsey Power. They created an elaborate complete with pigeons, stage to show the dangers of high voltage and what students should and should not do with electricity.

• PAWS afterschool program enjoyed a field trip to the Children’s Museum of Pittsburg. Approximately 55 students got to explore the many sights and sounds the museum had to offer.

• Harrison East welcomed back many former students as they conducted the ever-popular “Senior Walk”. Younger ones were able to give dozens of high-fives as the seniors walked by in their caps and gowns. Seniors were also able to share bits of wisdom as they chatted with classrooms.

• Students welcomed the Puskarich Library as they encouraged students to participate in the summer reading program held at the Cadiz, Freeport, and Scio branches throughout the summer.

• For his last spring program, Mr. Erbacher chose the light-hearted theme of “Shake the Sillies Out” to entertain the audiences. First, third, and fifth grades celebrated spring with a wide array of fun, catchy tunes.
