New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• The CORE meeting was held where SHP reviewed new classroom furniture with administrators and some staff. Additional meetings with staff will be held over the next few weeks.

• The new facility is on schedule and will have a grand opening in July 2019.

• Installing roof system and spray foam insulation at the High School Wing

• Interior Stairs, Fire Suppression and Electrical rough-in at the high school wing

• Brick veneer installation at the middle school/administration wing

• Fireproofing, Electrical Wire, Heating Water Pipe, Water Pipe, and Gas Pipe installation in the middle school/administration/athletic/student dining areas

• Metal Stud Framing, Ductwork Installation, and Roof Steel Installation in the elementary school wing

• Concrete Slab on Grade and Masonry Bearing wall installation at the auditorium

• Installation of storm piping and structures at the athletic facility

• Subgrade and Sanitary installation at Liggett Lane

• The Masonic Lodges held a Cornerstone Laying for our new facility on August 25th. Thank you to the Masons, Gallagher Monuments, Central Band, staff and community members for making this such a wonderful historic event.

District Office

• Thank you to the staff for all of your hard work to make the start of school such a success.

• New Employees were welcomed to Harrison Hills: Morgan Knight: Harrison Central, Vocational Agriculture; Ty Kenny: Harrison Central, Intervention; Brianna Baker: Harrison Central, Language Arts; Amanda Sliva: Harrison East, Language Arts; Jason Dean: Elementary Music.

• Harrison Community Hospital trained some staff on "Stop the Bleed" techniques.

• Open Houses and the Back to School Rally were held on August 22nd. Thank you to all staff that make these events so wonderful for our students and families. Also thank you to the 28 community partners that provided school supplies to our students.

• The monthly Board of Education meeting was held on August 30th where the board decided to give back to the community and not renew the 3 mill Permanent Improvement Levy.

• Mrs. Snider attended the Gifted meeting at the Jefferson County ESC.

• After several months of testing, Harrison Hills has now officially converted to the new state software. It has several nuances the old “classic” system did not have. Reports may have a slightly different look, but all data is there and balancing is not an issue.

• Fiscal department is working with Safe Schools to close out the grant. The 5 year period of the grant has come to an end. However, elements of the program will remain in place and continue in the district.

• State auditors have arrived to begin the FY18 audit of the district’s records. They should be here for 3 to 4 months.

• Mrs. Harding and Mrs. Trushel are working to finish up expending MIECHV monies and budgeting for the new cycle that will begin October 1.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Wagner Field had some updates and we hope everyone can make it out to a soccer or football game to check it out!

• The back to school rally was a successful kick-off to our year!

• Mrs. Pelegreen’s geometry students were exploring nets for rectangular prisms!

• Seniors Luke McKinney, George Novotny, and Riley Eberhart participated in the cornerstone ceremony that the Masons held at the new facility.

• Thank you to Sienna Nursing Home in Wintersville for providing a meal for our football team!

• Volleyball is back in action in the John W. Stephenson Center! Scroll down to see upcoming home games!

• Brightway visited and presented their mentor program to students last week.

• Meet the teams and a pep rally have students, staff, and coaches excited to be back in action!

Harrison East Elementary

• Harrison East welcomed over 400 parents and students who came out to Open House. Ms. Van Camp created a very festive sign to welcome back the students!

• A big thank you goes to John Visser of John’s Lawns for donating mulch. It is a beautiful way to begin our school year.

• Ms. Birney and Mr. Madzia supplied the staff with #1 foam fingers to celebrate the beginning of a new school year.

• The First Church of the Christ Awana Club students Joenus Jones, 9th grade; Hanna Arigoni, 4th grade; Amilliah Jones-Cogar, 6th grade; and Nevah Rhodes, 2nd grade filled and donated 5 elementary book bags loaded with everything a student would need to start school positively. Pictured below are the winners of the book bags Aaron Vale, kindergarten; Xzavier Johnson, 1st grade; Elizabeth Hython, 2nd grade; Cameron Fulton, 5th grade; and Lexus Scott-Malone, 6th grade. Also pictured below is 2nd grader Phoebe Goffoli who won the school wide gift basket donated by Kerry Lazear of Kerry’s Haircuts.

• Hundreds of Huskies came out to celebrate the beginning of a new school year!

• A great start to a new school year

• Harrison Hills welcomed hundreds of visitors to the new PreK-12 facility as Masons from across the state came to conduct a Cornerstone Ceremony. Seniors to kindergarten students were able to participate in applying mortar to our new school’s cornerstone.

• Positive relationships are being built at Harrison East this year. Mrs. McAfee’s 2nd grade class created a poster describing what kind of student they want to be this year. While the 6th grade students used positive adjectives to describe themselves and created a whole wall dedicated to celebrating their unique personalities and what type of classroom they want to create.

Harrison North Elementary

• Welcome back to the 2018-2019 school year!

• Harrison North is very pleased to welcome Mr. Jason Dean as our new music and band teacher!

• The Harrison Hills faculty enjoyed an in service on project-based learning and The Epic Classroom by Trevor Muir.

• August 22, 2018, we held a beginning of the year staff meeting, open house, and the back to school rally. Many families attended these events. We are looking forward to a successful year!

• During open house and the back to school rally Harrison North held basket raffles. The winner of the open house basket was Jaxon Knight. The winner of the back to school rally basket was Johnny McCammon.

• Harrison North held their first fire drill for this school year. It was a success!

• Nurse Holli went into the primary classrooms to introduce herself to the students and to explain the new sign outside of her office. Her new sign lets the children know where she is, and if she is busy.

• This bulletin board is a great reminder for everyone!
