Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• The elementary wing outside brick work continues and windows are now being installed

• Drop ceilings in the administrative/high school offices are being installed

• Tile work in the locker rooms continues

• Furniture is now being delivered for the administrative/high school offices

• Doors outside the gymnasiums are being set into place

• Drywall work is being completed in the lower high school wing

• Continue installing brick veneer at the elementary school wing of the building

• Completed exterior spray foam insulation at the elementary school wing of the building

• Installing HVAC, and electrical at the interior of the high school wing

• Completed installation of exterior windows and curtainwall at the high school wing

• Began installation of exterior windows and curtainwall at the elementary school wing

• Finishing drywall in the middle school wing

• Hanging drywall in the high school wing of the building

• Painting and installing ceilings in the administration area

• Installing cable tray and technology cabling in the administration, middle school, athletic, and dining areas

• Installing floor tile in the locker rooms

• Metal stud framing, duct work installation, plumbing rough-in, and electrical rough-in at the elementary school wing

• Completed roofing at the elementary school wing

• Continue installation of structural steel in the auditorium/music area

• Installing exterior metal panels and trim at the athletic area

• Installing exterior metal framing and blocking at the auditorium area

District Office

• Administration and Board Members attended the football, soccer, and cross country awards banquets.

• The Village Network met with administrators to discuss student group therapy services.

• At the November Board of Education meeting, Harrison Community Hospital staff Jeff Glasich and Toni Martinelli presented Mrs. Snider three Stop the Bleed kits for our buildings. The hospital provided Stop the Bleed training in August.

• Ron Sismondo from the Jefferson County ESC presented three $600.00 educational grants to awardees Ty Stinespring, Amanda Sliva, and Mary Paul.

• Harrison Hills hosted a bus driving training class.

• Mr. Ripley had a webinar with Transfinder.

• Administrator’s meeting was held where principals related positive activities in their buildings, special education and student enrollment was reviewed, and evaluation procedures were discussed.

• The Core team met and reviewed progress on the new facility.

• Mrs. Harding attended several financial sessions at the OSBA convention. The information was well presented and the sessions were very good.

• Kelley Howes, food service, and Mrs. Harding have been gathering additional information needed for the federal audit for food service. This audit should be wrapping up.

• The annual state audit is complete. They are now starting their audit of Family and Children First/Help Me Grow.

• New reporting requirements have been implemented concerning the building project. Mrs. Harding has completed all information and has worked with Hammond to make sure all financial data is balancing.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• The Parliamentary Procedure Team won the sub-district competition!

• Congratulations to Challenge Program winners! These 11th and 12th graders were presented with certificates and $200 each from our business partners MarkWest and Hess. Winners were randomly selected from a group of finalists in the following categories: Attendance, Academic Improvement, STEM, Community Service, and Academic Excellence.

• 12 students took the ASVAB, learned their results, and completed career inventories assisted by Kristy from the Pittsburgh MEPS.

• These students from Harrison Central spoke at the Board of Education Meeting on Thursday, November 29th. Students spoke about their learning experiences from attending different Leadership Camps.

Harrison East Elementary

• As students prepared for Thanksgiving break, they decided to “save” as many turkeys as possible. Second grade had a turkey disguise adventure with many unique and creative ways to hide their turkeys!

• Even though THE GAME might be over, two 6th graders, Arrie Dorn and Markus Hilbert, decided to keep the good-natured rivalry going by proudly wearing their favorite team’s hoodies.

• Some super 2nd grade readers reached their AR goals this week. Pictured below are: Evan Johnson, 50 points; Bristol Moore with 100 points ; Aiden Hensley, 50 points; Noah Burdge,100 point; and Shayla Nameth, 175 points; Gabe Stearns ,25 points; Zach Kalman, 25 points; Mason Best, Hallie Blake, and Aubrey Coffman all with 75 point; and Garrett Wade, 100 points. Great job 2nd grade!!

• Three East teachers applied and won a grant offered from Lowe’s and awarded through the Jefferson County ESC. Congratulations to Amanda Sliva, 5th grade, Ty Stinespring, 2nd grade, and Mary Paul, 6th grade. The teachers are pictured with Jeffereson County Director of Curriculum and Professional Development, Ron Sismondo.

• Mrs. Noble’s 1st grade students began getting into the Christmas spirit by adopting a happy, Grinchmas attitude.

• November Students of the Month were recently selected by grade level teams. Students were chosen on showing respectfulness, responsibility, readiness to learn, compassion, kindness, and overall good citizenship in the classroom. This month’s nominees are preschool, Zasen Nice; kindergarten (absent), Everli Sall; 1st grade, Tailyn Bell; 2nd grade, Logan DeWees; 3rd grade, Alyssa Ratliff; 4th grade, Hanna Arigoni; 5th grade, Corey Feezel; and 6th grade, Kennedy Skinner.

Harrison North Elementary

• In anticipation of the annual Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade, students and staff of Harrison North had their very own balloon parade. From the balloon designers to the spectators waving excitedly along the route, we had it all!

• Second graders enjoyed making fall wreaths with the assistance of Mrs. McMillen.

• Harrison North PTA did their annual cookie dough sale. The PTA would like to thank everyone who supported this fund raiser. Pictured below are the top sellers. In the front was the 3rd place seller, Mackenzee Warf with a $50 gift card. In the back row are 1st place seller, James Collins with a $100 gift card, and 2nd place sellers are Bentley and Evelette Slocum with a $75 gift card. Congratulations!

• Preschool is busy practicing writing their names and naming the letters in their names. They even practiced their names using playdough.

• Mrs. Soos’ first graders have been learning about facts and opinions. They practiced the skill of fact and opinion on some Christmas theme activities.

• Art work is displayed in the hallways of Harrison North thanks to Ms. Vancamp’s art classes.

• Preschoolers were busy practicing their letters, numbers, shapes, and their names in shaving cream this week.
