New Facility Update

Construction Update

• The Main Street HS/JH entrance now has structural steel

• Windows and Brick continue on the elementary wing

• The HS gymnasium ceiling has a fresh coat of white paint started

• Cabinetry is being installed in the main offices

• The Auditorium entrance to the HS Cafeteria now has structural steel

District Office

• Mrs. Snider attended Senior Mock Interviews. These interviews prepare students for all aspects of the interview process beginning with a resume, questions, references, and proper dress. Congratulations to the seniors for your hard work on this assignment.

• Mrs. Snider, Mr. Dunlap, Ms. Birney, Mrs. Carmen, Mrs. Sliva, and Mrs. Wetherall attended a training at the ESC concerning all aspects of state testing.

• Mr. Ripley attended a webinar through Comp Management

• Mrs. Snider, Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Harding and Mr. Ripley met with representatives from the Belmont Correctional Facility in preparation for facilities moves.

• The administrative team attended Harrison Community Hospital's Community Breakfast where all proceeds are given to Shop with a Cop and Shared Christmas.

• Mr. Morgan led special education reviews at Harrison North Elementary School

• Mr. Morgan and Mr. Dunlap collaborated with intervention specialists and continued preparation for state tests in the month of December

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with Mr. Eddy and Mr. Dawson in review of facility plans regarding technology within the new school complex

• Mrs. Harding and Strategic Solutions have been working to create forms to expand the district’s goal of going paperless and streamlining approval processes. Mrs. Harding is hoping to train staff after Christmas break.

• Mrs. Clements and Mrs. Dunlap have been organizing and processing reports in preparation of the calendar year end close out process. The attended a training last week at OMERESA in regards to closing out within the new state software.

• Mrs. Harding, Karen Little (OFCC) and Todd Thackery (SHP) did a review of contract modifications needed for the building project.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• The Student Council has been quite busy the last few weeks, with their annual blood drive, food drive, and Breakfast with Santa. They held their annual blood drive on Thursday, November 15, where they collected 20 units of blood. Their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive was held Monday, November 12-Tuesday, November 20 and they collected and donated 171 items to the Cadiz Food Pantry. They also held their annual Breakfast with Santa fundraiser on Saturday, December 1 in the Harrison Community Hospital Cafeteria, where they sold 138 tickets. The money raised from this event goes to purchasing Christmas gifts for less fortunate children in the community.

• Congratulations to the following students. First Row Left to Right(sitting)- Champion-Tristen Albaugh, 2nd Place-Maizy Langoehr, 3rd Place-Peyton Roski, 4th Place-Servacio Lopez, 5th Place-Holden Anthony. 2nd Row Left to Right (standing)- 6th Place-Carys Haney, 7th Place-Sean Forrester, 8th Place-Julena Kovacik, 1st Alternate-Tevan Palmer, 2nd Alternate-Grayden Sproull. The top 8 place finishers have qualified to the Harrison Hills City School District Bee which will be held on January 9th at Central in the auditorium at 6pm. Students from Harrison North and East will also participate in the District Spelling Bee.

• We hope everyone enjoyed The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon!

• The wrestling team had their home opener against Claymont. The next home match will be next Wednesday. Come out and support the wrestlers!

Harrison East Elementary

• November Student of the Month from preschool was Zasen Nice.

• Super star second grade readers this week are Lillie Yarish, 125 points, Logan DeWees, 75 points; and Ella Smith with 100 points!

• Third graders were busy this week as they presented cereal box book reports and they created ugly Christmas sweaters. They were very creative!

• Mrs. Novotny’s kindergarten class took advantage of the spelling bee for the “big kids” and decided to have spelling bee of their own. Pictured below are students who could not be beat with 3 letter words and sight words. Standing are Lucas Wood, Savanna Lancaster, Mia Barcroft, Kamree Kelley, and Aubrey Bryant.

• On Friday, December 7th, twenty-two fifth and sixth grade students participated in the Harrison East Building Spelling Bee. After 26 rounds of intense competition, 5th grade student, Ember Davenport was declared the winner. All students participating did a wonderful job. The top eight finishers and two alternates will be moving on to compete at the District level on January 9 at 6:00 pm. Second alternate was Kaila Walker, first alternate was Roni Banks, finishing 8th was Brady Moss, 7th was Keterah Ghezzi, 6th was Nicolette Peeler, 5th place was Logan Milliken, 4th was Jacob Quito, 3rd place was Rylie Burdge, the runner up was Avri Puskarich, and our winner was Ember Davenport.

• This weekend several area law enforcement agencies got together and brought Christmas to some of our East students. Lewis Whitehead, Lena Sutton, and her sister Ariel had the opportunity to eat, shop, and hang out with the officers as well as ride in their patrol cars with the lights flashing!!

• Andrew Mattern works on a Character Counts cooperative program. Under the facilitation of Donna Carpenter, East and North are working together to engage the students with lessons on building character.

• Jefferson County JVS Early Childhood Program students visited Harrison North Elementary on Friday, December 7. Students from the JVS got to visit classrooms, observe teaching styles, and interact with the students.

• Molly the Cow visited Harrison North during lunch time in the cafeteria. Students had the opportunity to try and apply pie smoothie.

• Olivia and Kasey are showing some holiday cheer!

• Preschool students were busy this week doing a variety of centers and activities. Some activities included decorating a felt Christmas tree and the arrival of their classroom elf, Twizzle.
