New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• Elementary exterior brick is continuing on the final section

• The High School Gym is getting additional paint

• 2nd Floor Elementary Classrooms are being framed

• Wall Tile is being set in the Junior High bathroom

• Stair Rails have been installed in the High School ELA

• The Junior High/Elementary Gym is having paint sprayed on the ceiling

District Office

• HHCSD and HMG recently received a $1200.00 grant from Gulfport through the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to buy student shoes or boots as needed. This will be available after the Christmas break and will run through the 19-20 school year. If you have any student that is in need, please contact Jenny at 7806 or [email protected]

• School times for the 2019-2020 school year will be 8-2:50. Teaching staff's time will be 7:45-3:05.

• Principal evaluations will be held the month of January.

• Thank you to Todd Dunlap, Jessica Madzia, and Ashley Sefsick on your organization and success of the staff Christmas celebration. A great time was held by all!

• Central's holiday choir and band concerts were well attended and beautifully performed. Great job to Mrs. Ripley and Mr. Zalenski and all of our students!

• Mrs. Snider attended the wonderful East and North Holiday Concerts. Thank you to Mr. Dean for those great performances.

• The Harrison Hills Business Advisory Committee toured the new facility on 12/18.

• Mr. Morgan completed the application for state funding relative to federal programs.

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with related services on visionary planning and faculty training.

• The District Leadership Team met in review of student and teacher performance relative to support from the district.

• Mr. Morgan worked with Harrison Central Administration as they completed registration for the ACT.

• SRO Deputy Brooks and Mr. Morgan reviewed societal illegal drug concerns and potential spillover into our schools.

• Mr. Morgan continued the process of reviewing staffing and transitioning to the new school complex.

• Mr. Morgan and Hammond Construction, alongside SHP Leading Design, collaborated on various items relative to the new school complex

• Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Clements have been working on the 2018 calendar end close out. They are happy to report, that it has moved along smoothly on the new state software. 1099’s and W2’s will be printed by OMERESA and distributed before the end of January.

• The state audit of the FY18 for the school district is completed and in draft form. The official report should be released sometime late January or in February.

• The state audit of FY17 and FY18 for Family and Children First Council and Help Me Grow is wrapping up.

• Mrs. Harding has been testing the new electronic forms process. There are some changes that need completed by Strategic Solutions. She is hopeful that everything will be complete by the end of January.

• Mr. Ripley met with Kim Ohler and Kelly Howes from the Nutrition Group

• Mr. Ripley met with a representative from Camp Tippecanoe regarding summer cooks’ and camp counselors’ positions

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• A group of seniors held a week long Jr. Thespian Workshop and their final performance was on December 15. There were seven students ranging from 5-8 grade who participated and 83 canned food items were collected for the Cadiz food pantry as admission.

• Be sure to check out the snowmen displayed at the square in Cadiz, our students dedicated time in art class to paint all of them!

• Great job to the choir and band for their holiday performances!

• SADD went to the County Home to sing Christmas carols and spread cheer to the residents!

Harrison East Elementary

• Second grade had an ugly sweater contest and pictured below are some of the prettiest, ugly sweaters. Mrs. McAfee’s class winners were 1st place Aubrey Coffman, 2nd place Mikey Smith, and 3rd place was Kingston Smith. Mrs. Doty’s classroom winners were 1st place Neely Ryder, 2nd place Phoebe Goffoli, and 3rd place was Kizza Ash. Mrs. Doty’s class also decided to make some reindeer food for the expected visitors they were to receive.

• Second grade readers Alexis Satterfield and Bristol Moore added to their AR reading points this week with 50 and 125 points respectively.

• Mr. Bengier’s 4th grade science students worked on creating parallel circuits. They enjoyed trying to get them working.

• The 6th grade 21st Century Enrichment students had to write and illustrate a children’s book that taught a lesson. After writing the book, they had to prepare a lesson plan and a lesson that supported their story. The students went into the Pre-K through the fourth grade classrooms and shared their books and presented their lessons on Friday. Pictured below are Anthony Pelegreen and James Rosenberger.

Harrison North Elementary

• These staff members of the district took advantage of a free gentle yoga class with Anisa Rocchi after school on December 18th.

• Harrison North held its winter music program. Mr. Dean and the students did an outstanding job!

• Beautiful winter and Christmas decorations adorned the hallways of Harrison North.

• Preschool enjoyed the movie “The Polar Express” along with hot chocolate and popcorn.

• Preschool enjoyed several Christmas activities including a candy bar exchange, played snowman bowling, fished for candy canes, decorated cookies, and made reindeer food.

• Santa Claus visited Harrison North on Thursday, December 20th!

• Students in Miss Tipton’s 2nd grade successfully completed “Racing Through Addition Facts.” Students completed basic fact quizzes 0 – 10. Congratulations!

• Students in Miss Tipton’s 2nd grade wrote an opinion paragraph on snow, and then used the computer lab to produce it digitally to meet their writing standards.
