New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• The Middle School Hallway drop ceiling installation has begun

• The first interior door has been installed in the middle school section of the building

• Sinks in the main locker rooms are been installed

• Installation of some middle school classroom storage is pictured below

• The small group room overlooking the HS gymnasium continues to have structural steel and window framing completed

• Continue installing brick veneer at the elementary school wing of the building

• Installing spray foam insulation at the auditorium

• Continue installation of exterior windows and curtainwall at the elementary school wing

• Finishing drywall in the high school wing of the building

• Painting and installing ceilings in the high school wing

• Installation of casework in the administration and middle school areas of the building

• Installing cable tray and technology cabling in the administration, middle school, athletic, and dining areas

• Painting and final drywall in the gymnasiums

• Installing wall tile in high school and middle school areas

• Metal stud framing, duct work installation, fire suppression, plumbing rough-in, and electrical rough-in at the elementary school wing

• Installation of roofing at the auditorium

• Installing exterior metal panels and trim at the athletic and high school areas

• Installing exterior metal framing and blocking at the auditorium area

• Installing kitchen equipment

District Office

• Mrs. Snider, Mrs. Harding, and Mrs. Starkey met with 3-6 grade teachers for their selection of areas of teaching for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Mr. Morgan and team members held special education meetings across multiple days and throughout the District, at the Harrison Career Center, and at the Belmont Career Center

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with faculty on special education services

• Mr. Morgan and Mr. Ripley met with a representative regarding display of District vision within the new school complex

• Mr. Dunlap and Mr. Morgan collaborated on State testing and other curricular items

• Mr. Morgan and faculty discussed exploration of digital curriculum within content areas

• After finding a problem with the printed W2’s, Mrs. Clements was able to have them fixed, reprinted and distributed to the buildings last week.

• Mrs. Harding and Strategic Solutions have completed the final testing of the forms system. Mrs. Harding is hoping to roll it out to the buildings over the next two weeks.

• The fiscal staff hosted a demonstration of the paperless requisition, purchase order and invoicing process. Indian Creek, Edison Local and Strategic Solutions were in attendance.

• Mrs. Harding completed and uploaded all excess costs for the 2018 school year.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• The District Spelling Bee that was held at Central on January 9th. Students from Harrison North, East, and Central in grades 5-8 who qualified from their School Bee participated. Congratulations to the following top 8 place finishers who have qualified for the Regional Spelling Bee that will take place on March 9th at 11:00AM at Buckeye North Elementary School. The winner of the Jefferson-Harrison County Regional Spelling Bee will advance to the National Spelling Bee. • Congrats to our Comp Cheer Squads for 1st place finishes last weekend!

• Wrestlers spent the weekend in Wheeling at the OVAC tournament, stay tuned for results next week!

• Our mock trial team competed in New Philadelphia on Friday. Congrats to Abrielle Soos on being named Outstanding Witness!

Harrison East Elementary

• Primary teachers Amy McAfee, Franci Doty, and Nicole Yeager along with Kathy Yoho, Title 1 teacher, recently attended a phonemic awareness professional development at the Jefferson County ESC

• Mrs. McCann’s 5th grade science classes are using their ingenuity and problem-solving skills to create a container that will successful meet the criteria set forth. They love a good challenge!

• Special thanks goes to Cadiz’s Church of Christ for the recent donation of paper towels and tissues for each homeroom. They are greatly appreciated!! The church also help contribute disinfecting wipes to preschool. We have great community support!

• Students young and old were surprised this 9-week grading period by having their Principal’s List, Honor Roll, or Perfect Attendance certificates hand delivered by Ms. Birney and Mr. Madzia. East’s administration personally recognized each students’ accomplishments while PTO moms accompanied them to delivery each student their own Spirit Stick. Students were able to either add to or start a spirit stick!

Harrison North Elementary

• The Scio Elivian Club and Quilting Club made fleece blankets for Mrs. Turner's first grade class. The club members come in once a month to read to the students. The students look forward to their visits!

• Students in the first grade enjoyed reading about class pets this week in reading. We ended the week with a visit from Ruby and Rosie Rabbit.

• Miss Tipton’s kindergarten class welcomed Harrison Central High School senior, Sara Bethel to their classroom this week. Sara is doing 30 hours of observation and job shadowing in Miss Tipton’s kindergarten classroom.

• Students in Mrs. Turner’s first grade are working on their basic addition facts. Look at their trees filling up with apples as they master each set of facts!

• Students in Miss Tipton’s kindergarten did a directed drawing of a snowman.

• Preschool students made snowman faces using a mixture of shaving cream and glue to create a puffy effect.
