Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• The Elementary Wing has all brick installed on the exterior

• The Elementary ELA windows are nearly completed

• The Elementary Classrooms continue with drywall installation

• Doors from the Pre School Classrooms lead out to the enclosed playground

• Brick Installation on the Auditorium Wing has begun

• The High School Gymnasium had acoustical panels installed this week

• Middle School Learning Labs now have cabinetry and sinks

• Completed installation of brick veneer at the elementary school wing of the building

• Installing spray foam insulation at the auditorium

• Continue installation of exterior windows and curtainwall at the elementary school wing

• Finishing drywall in the second floor high school wing

• Painting and installing ceilings in the high school wing

• Begin Installation of casework at the high school wing first floor

• Installation of casework in the administration and middle school areas of the building

• Begin installation of rubber flooring in the administration area

• Installing cable tray and technology cabling in the high school wing

• Finish painting in the gymnasiums, kitchen, administration, and middle school areas

• Metal stud framing, duct work installation, fire suppression, plumbing rough-in, and electrical rough-in at the elementary school wing

• Hanging drywall in the first floor of the elementary school wing

• Installation of the elevator in the elementary school wing

• Installation of roofing at the connector corridors

• Installing exterior metal panels and trim at the athletic and high school areas

• Installing kitchen equipment

District Office

• District Administration met in discussion of teacher assignment for the 2019-2020 academic year at Harrison Central

• Mr. Morgan participated in IEP reviews throughout the district and at the Harrison Career Center

• Mr. Morgan, Mr. Ripley, and Mr. Eddy met with Hammond and SHP Leading Design in review of the furniture purchase for the new facility

• The Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, January 31, 2019

• Mr. Ripley met with a BWC representative to qualify for additional saving towards our yearly workers comp. payment.

• School cafeteria licenses were renewed for the remainder of the 2019 school year.

• Mr. Ripley met various installers at the new school for inspection of work to be completed.

• Mr. Ripley is currently working with Hammond Construction and school principals to schedule a visit to the new school for all students in March.

• Mr. Morgan and Mr. Ripley reviewed/revised a key list for final approval.

• Thank you to our mechanics, maintenance and janitorial faculty for your time and effort ensuring the buildings are clear and safe for students and faculty during this winter season!

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Seniors visited OUE & Belmont College to learn more about the programs they offer.

• Congrats to our comp cheer squad on a 2nd place finish at the OVAC Cheer Competition!

• 40 senior students and our local scholarship reps braved the cold temperatures to learn about the scholarship process and pick up applications.

• During advising, high school students are visiting junior high classes to help with homework, missing assignments, or just get to know the younger students. Pictured are Jakob Cowans and Destiny Ash helping Aiden Hays.

Harrison East Elementary

• Fifth grade gets creative having indoor recess due to the cold temperatures.

• Harrison East welcomed P3 gurus, Pete, Landon, and Pat from Trinity Sports and Performance as they shared with kindergarteners, 1st, and 2nd, graders the effects food has on their bodies. They showed the students various exercises they can do to help them stay healthy and encouraged them to get active at least 60 minutes a day.

• Super 2nd graders, Hallie Blake and Shayla Nameth achieved 100 and 225 AR points this week!

• Sixth grade science students recently tried their hand at creating sedimentary rocks. Students studied the different types of rocks before conducting their experiment.

• Harrison East proudly recognized January’s Students of the Month. Preschool , Jace Bumgardner; Kindergarten, Ty Bracken; 1st grade, Thomas Smith; 2nd grade, Neely Ryder; 3rd grade, Aubrie Moss; 4th grade, Layla Jeffers; 5th grade, Ethan Carpenter; and 6th grade, Anthony Pelegreen.

Harrison North Elementary

• January staff meeting was held.

• Deputy Tony Sedgmer began DARE classes with 2nd and 3rd graders.

• Miss Tipton’s 2nd grade class welcomed guest reader, Kathy Miser. Ms. Miser is a retired teacher from Harrison Hills. She read several books including: “The Mitten” by: Jan Brett, “The Hat” by: Jan Brett, “The Snowy Day” by: Erza Keats, “If You Give a Cat a Cupcake” by: Laura Numeroff, “Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse” by: Kevin Henkes, and “The Abominable Snow Teacher” by: Lisa Passen. She left some activity sheets for them to do. The students enjoyed her visit!

• Cool art from Ms. Vancamp’s art classes decorates the hallway.

• Preschool students are busy working on writing the letter F and some preschool students are working on writing first and last names.

• Students in grades 4, 5, & 6 attended the Hillbilly Silly Science Spectacular at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State Tuscarawas. Students learned about the world of science and experiments with a fun twist to it all. The show involved students from the audience.
