New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• Exit Light Signage is in place throughout the middle school

• The Main Street Entrance connecting the high school/auditorium/offices and cafeteria now has concrete flooring

• The Elementary/District Office entrance has windows and framework now

• Flooring has been installed in many sections of school offices

• Continue installation of exterior windows and curtainwall at the elementary school wing

• Finishing drywall in the second floor high school wing

• Painting and installing ceilings in the high school wing

• Installation of casework at the high school wing first floor

• Installation of rubber flooring in the administration area

• Installing cable tray and technology cabling in the high school wing

• Finish painting in the gymnasiums, kitchen, administration, and middle school areas

• Metal stud framing, duct work installation, fire suppression, plumbing rough-in, and electrical rough-in at the elementary school wing

• Hanging drywall in the first floor of the elementary school wing

• Installation of the elevator in the elementary school wing

• Installation of roofing at the connector corridors

• Installing exterior metal panels and trim at the athletic and high school areas

• Installing kitchen equipment

• Poured remaining concrete slab on grade at the auditorium area of the building

• Electrical installations at the auditorium area of the building

• Installing brick veneer at the auditorium area of the building

District Office

• Mrs. Snider worked with DePaul School for the Deaf on a student's Individual Education Plan.

• The superintendent held 2019-2020 Central's special education class selection meeting.

• Mrs. Snider worked with the Village Network on a Memorandum of Understanding to provide student services.

• Mr. Morgan and local teams held special education reviews throughout the week, both inside and outside of the school district

• Mr. Morgan continued work on review of district curriculum and the specialization of offerings at the elementary level for 2019-2020

• Mr. Morgan and Mrs. Gibson continue to review and communicate student enrollment for the upcoming year

• District Administration worked to specify operational details specific to the new school complex

• Mrs. Harding has started staff online forms training. Harrison North staff were trained last week and the other two buildings will be trained this week.

• Public access to online forms for Use of Facilities and Public Participation at Board Meetings is up and running. These can be found on the district’s web page www.hhcsd.org; under Quick Links - district forms and right at the top in the middle of screen under the header New Online Forms. If anyone has any questions, please contact Mrs. Harding or Mrs. Carter at 740-942-7800.

• Mrs. Harding and the treasurer from Edison Local attended a meeting in Columbus concerning the ATEX Pipeline and its taxation status. There were approximately 50 in attendance including legislators and other school districts. Further investigation needs done to determine if it qualifies as a public utility or not.

• The Family & Children First/Help Me Grow audit is complete. It is in draft form and due to be released any day.

• School cafeteria licenses were distributed to schools for posting.

• Mr. Ripley met with Kim Ohler for a mid-year update on food service.

• Mr. Ripley had a phone conference with the A G Mauro Company to finalize key assignments for the new school.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Another group of seniors were honored on Tuesday evening for their time spent representing Harrison Central on the court.

• 40 students and families attended College Credit Plus Night.

• A group of seniors toured Franciscan University and EGCC campuses, spoke with student services, admissions, faculty, and financial aid representatives.

• The boys basketball team spent time reading to elementary students at Harrison North on Thursday afternoon.

Harrison East Elementary

• Second grade readers are at it again!! Mrs. McAfee’s group is devouring books during the winter months. Pictured below are Shayla Nameth who has reached 250 AR points. Her record is the highest in the class by 100 points and she has the highest score Mrs. McAfee has ever seen !! Also pictured are john Coverdale with 25 AR points; Waylon Hodkinson with 100; Logan DeWees with 100; and Garrett Wade with 150 AR points. In addition are Mason Best, 125 AR points; Aubrey Coffman 100 points; Bristol Moore, Noah Burdge, ad Lily Yarrish all with 150 AR points. Lastly highlighted are Mikey Smith and Kingston Smith each with 75 points. Great job 2nd grade!!

• D.A.R.E. Officer Deputy Tony Sedgmer met with the 3rd grade classes this week. They began discussing respect and how to treat themselves and others.

Harrison North Elementary

• Congratulations Harrison North on receiving the 2018 High Progress School of Honor from the Ohio Department of Education!

• A thank you letter, and certificate of appreciation was sent to Mrs. Rocchi and her students who raised money for UNICEF by collecting money in their Trick-or-Treat boxes this past Halloween.

• Preschoolers worked on writing the letter Ff and writing rhyming words on dry erase boards.

• Preschoolers read “The Fleas Sneeze” and talked about how to keep germs to ourselves. They did a germ activity with a pencil covered in lotion and glitter. The glitter showed them how many germs were on their hands after touching the pencil. Then students washed their hands while singing their ABC’s.

• Students at Harrison North celebrated the 100th day of school on Wednesday, February 6th.

• Students in 2nd grade had a visit from the Harrison Central High School boys’ basketball team on Thursday, February 7th. The high school boys visited second graders to read them the story, “The Hog Mollies and the Great Golden Gizmo.” The books were provided to each student by the 2nd and 7 Foundation. The 2nd and 7 Foundations mission is to promote reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward.

• Roxane Harding visited Harrison North on Friday, February 8th to go over how to complete forms online for items such as tuition reimbursement, professional development, field trip request, school bus request, use of facilities, etc.
