New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• High School Science Labs are having casework and lab stations installed

• Bathroom partitions are being installed throughout the high school and junior high bathrooms

• Decorative trim has been installed in the high school and elementary cafeterias

• Elementary drywall finishing and painting has begun

District Office

• Congratulations to the Central Cheerleaders for obtaining runner-up in the state cheer competition!

• Mrs. Snider attended the Dr. Seuss Family Literacy Celebration held on 3/5 at Harrison North. This well attended event had education and fun activities for students and also provided hot dogs and drinks for all. Thank-you to the staff for such a wonderful extra effort for our kids!

• Mrs. Snider worked with lawyer Dan Spahn and village attorney Costa Mastros concerning finalizing the school zone for Route 9.

• Mrs. Snider attended the OMERESA performance audit conference and review.

• The superintendent attended the District Leadership Team meeting held at Harrison North.

• The entire student body signed the gym floor of the new facility last Friday. Many building administrators also enjoyed signing the concrete before the wooden overlay is installed.

• Mrs. Clements and Mrs. Johnson have been trained to use a scanning module for personnel records. An additional step the district is taking to reduce the use of paper.

• Mrs. Harding and Hammond Construction continue to work closely concerning required documents and payments needed.

• Mrs. Harding and Mr. Ripley have been working with Hartford Insurance concerning a new facility claim that occurred during the “wind storm” the last week of February.

• Mr. Morgan led the members of the District Leadership Team Meeting on 3-6-2019, where our team discussed:

  •  Building Leadership Team Structure
  •  Positive Behavior Intervention Systems
  •  The future of technology in Harrison Hills
  •  Questions and answers surrounding the academic move to the new facility
  •  Student academic performance within the District relative to collected data
  •  Progress within the O.I.P. and our five year plan

• Mr. Morgan worked with both SHP and Hammond in details progressing to completion of the new campus

• Mr. Eddy and Mr. Morgan collaborated to complete room numbering, placards, and telephone extensions within the new campus

• State testing specifications were loaded for administration within Harrison Hills by Mr. Morgan

• Mr. Morgan worked with faculty on licensure renewal

• Mr. Morgan attended annual reviews within special education at Harrison North Elementary

• State testing preparations were discussed with schools by Mr. Morgan

• Mr. Morgan continues to work with faculty and curricular companies in review of selection within specific academic areas

• Mr. Morgan attended the Girls Basketball Recognition Banquet

• Mr. Morgan attended annual reviews within special education at Harrison Central High School

• Mr. Ripley and Mr. Clifford supervised the floor signing with district students.

• Mr. Ripley provided documentation and met with Harrison Central teachers regarding the crates which will be used for the move this summer.

• Mr. Ripley met with an insurance adjuster to evaluate some wind damage at the new facility.

• Mr. Ripley and Mr. Albaugh worked to resolve heating issues at Harrison North, Central and the Bus Garage.

• Mr. Ripley worked with Morton Buildings to repair a bus garage door.

• The baseball team held a youth camp last week!

• Congratulations to Kobe Mitchell on hitting the 1,000 point mark as a sophomore!!

• Emi Jones, Kylie Hyre, and Shae Saffell helped with literacy night at Harrison North Elementary.

• Students visited the new facility to sign the gymnasium floor.

Harrison East Elementary

• Congratulations to Owen Whitacre who was the winner of the cafeteria’s March Madness Contest. He won a basketball signed by all Huskie basketball players.

• Mrs. McAfee’s 2nd grade class is full of super star readers. This week Shayla Nameth reached a record 300 AR points!! While Aiden Hensley received 75 points, Kingston Smith and Mikey Smith 100 points each, Mason Best 150 points, Lilly Yarish 200 points, Garrett Wade reached 200 points, and Aubrey Coffman reached 125 AR points. Great job!

• Officer Tony recently used Mrs. Sproull as a demonstration while teaching students about the effects substances have on our bodies.

• March 8th marked a very special day for the young and not-so-young at Harrison East. We traveled to the new school and were able to sign and personalize the gym floor. It was a great experience for all!

• A big Harrison East congratulation goes out to 5th grader, Ember Davenport, and 6th grader, Roni Banks for advancing to the Regional Scripts Spelling Bee recently held at Buckeye North.

• Ember Davenport finished 9th overall and is pictured back row, sixth person to the left.

• Harrison East had the privilege of hosting the quarterly District Leadership Team meeting.

Harrison North Elementary

• Preschool attended an in service at Indian Creek called Steam: An Integrated Approach to Learning.

• Mrs. Rocchi’s Fourth graders have been researching many different countries. They are doing this through the use of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Payton Culver is showing her six sided cube that is a product of the second level of Bloom’s Taxonomy-Comprehension. Each side has a fact or a picture about Mauritania.

• Preschool students had show and tell with items that started with the letter G.

• Dr. Seuss literacy night was held at Harrison North on March 5th. Many families joined in the fun after school that evening. Thank you so much for attending.

• During Dr. Seuss literacy night 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th grade students and parents participated in a “Green Egg Drop.” Students listened to “Green Eggs and Ham” while building their protective unit for their green eggs. We were so impressed by their creations.

• Sergeant Frank Valesko was the guest reader in Miss Tipton’s 2nd grade classroom on March 6th. Sgt. Valesko told the students that he had been a cop for 29 years. He has been in the schools for the past 4 years. He read two stories to the students: “A Day with A Police Officer” and “The Very Frustrated Monster.” The students enjoyed his visit! He gave them pencils, erasers, and stickers.

• Callie Eberhart joined by students in 4-H presented to 3rd-6th grade students. They talked about how to join 4-H, available projects, and 4-H camp. They also led us in their favorite camp songs.

• Thursday, March 7th students enjoyed hat day for Dr. Seuss literacy week events.

• Students got to go see the new school and also got to sign the gym floor on Friday, March 8th.

• Chloe and Mason Omaits and Kamryn and Chase Campbell were the top sellers for the PTA pizza fundraiser. They were awarded gift cards.
