New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• Doors are being hung in offices and classrooms

• The elementary/middle school gym had acoustical tile hung on the walls

• The walkway connecting the middle school to the high school has been poured

• The 2nd story walkway connecting the middle school to the elementary has been poured

• Lettering and striping has been painted outside of the locker rooms

• Finishing drywall in the first floor elementary school wing

• Painting and installing ceilings in the high school wing

• Installation of casework at the high school wing first and second floors

• Installing technology cabling in the high school wing

• Installing paging speakers and sound system speakers in the gymnasiums, athletic areas, administration area, and middle school area

• Buildout of technology closets

• HVAC duct installation, hydronic piping, fire suppression, plumbing rough-in, and electrical rough-in at the elementary school wing

• Hanging drywall in the second floor of the elementary school wing

• Installation of roofing at the connector corridors

• Installing exterior metal panels and trim at the high school and elementary wings

• Plumbing and electrical hookups of kitchen equipment

• Electrical, HVAC, and plumbing installations at the auditorium area of the building

• Installing masonry cmu block in the music and arts area of the building

• Installing brick veneer at the auditorium area of the building

• Completed all interior concrete and working on exterior frost slabs

• Interior glass and glazing at the administration area

• Installing hollow metal doors and hardware

District Office

• Mrs. Snider attended these events last week: Children Family First Council, HH Athletic Council, and Wrestling Banquet. Congratulations to the senior wrestlers on their success.

• Representative Don Jones contacted Mrs. Snider concerning a proposed bill affecting district report cards and graduation requirements.

• Mr. Morgan attended special education reviews at Harrison East Elementary School and Harrison Central Junior-Senior High School this week.

• Mr. Morgan led an onsite visit with a developer for design content within the new school complex.

• Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Snider, Mr. Ripley, Mrs. Harding and Board of Education members met in a visioning session for content development within the new school

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with SHP and Hammond in new school complex decision making

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with the State Support Team within special education advancement

• Mr. Morgan and Mrs. Gibson collaborated on Ohio’s State Tests

• Faculty members and Mr. Morgan collaborated on curriculum advancement

• Mrs. Harding and Mrs. Gibson are completing the Civil Rights filing that is due in April.

• Mrs. Harding is gathering information for the yearly Indirect/Direct cost report for CFD reporting.

• Mrs. Harding provided budgeting information for Help Me Grow concerning FY 20 monies for OCGB funds.

• Mr. Ripley and Mr. Hibbs held the Spring Trip Driver’s Meeting

• Mr. Ripley met with faculty from Harrison East and North concerning the moving crates

• Mr. Ripley, Mr. Hibbs, Mr. Parker, Mr. Clifford and Mr. Hayes met with a locker representative

• Mr. Ripley and Mr. George with Hammond Construction met with Erick Wilson and the Hopedale and Cadiz Volunteer Fire Departments for a tour of the new facility

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Congratulations to the Varsity Competition Cheerleaders on placing 2nd in the State!!

• The girls’ basketball team was recognized at their end of the season banquet.

• 7th grade students, Tristen Albaugh, Maizy Langoehr, and Peyton Roski participated in the Regional Spelling Bee.

• Junior High students attended Jr. OMUN.

• Congratulations to Luke Forrester who was selected to attend Youth Tour 2019 in Washington D.C. paid for by Carroll Electric. The application process included a written test and interview process.

• Harrison Central Class of 2012 Alumni, TT DiLoreto, spoke with FFA classes.

• Thanks to Mr. Noble and his students on completing a Make a Wish Foundation project for a community member!

• Senior wrestlers and mat stat were recognized at their end of the season banquet.

• Seniors attending Close-Up had a fun week in Washington, D.C.

Harrison East Elementary

• Harrison East welcomed Callie Eberhart with the Ohio State Extension office as she came and shared the fun available to students when they join 4-H.

• More super-star second grade readers devouring AR points. Pictured below are Waylon Hodkinson with 125 points, Bristol Moore, 175 points; Mason Quito with 75 points; and Elizabeth Hython, 100 AR points.

• Miss Bethel’s fifth grade drew castles and answered math problems to attack the other castles! Whoever had the least amount of hits on their castle won! Congratulations to our winners!

• To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day the 6th grade along with support from our PTO hosted its annual St. Patty’s Day dance. About 150 students from both Harrison East and Harrison North came together to dance the night away.

• Third grade students wrapped up their learning on natural resources and conservation by completing several learning stations, such as "mining" fossil fuels; cleaning up oil spills, erosion, and the water cycle.

Harrison North Elementary

• Students learned about ancient Chinese scrolls and how to write their names in Chinese. These beautiful cherry blossoms brighten the halls to welcome spring.

• Circle K in Scio donated antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizer to help the students at Harrison North be proactive in fighting the flu.

• Students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 attended Nailers Education Day. Students got to attend this event if they had kept their Husky points below a set number.

• Students in Mrs. Turner's first grade class enjoyed a visit from Cowgirl Turner. The students learned about a ranch this week during reading. The students enjoyed eating trail mix, throwing a lariat, listening to a story, and learning about ranch life. The expository text came to life with our special guest!

• Preschool enjoyed beautiful spring weather that we encountered for a day on Thursday, March 14th.

• Preschool planted seeds in dirt and learned about what seeds need to grow. Each morning students water their plant.

• Preschool had show and tell this week with items that started with the letter E.

• Mr. Brent Ripley presented to Harrison North Staff about moving preparation to our new school building.

• Dr. Seuss themed art can be seen throughout the hallways at North.

• Preschool students had a special visitor from a dentist office named Mel. Mel showed the students how to brush and floss their teeth. At the end of the visit Mel gave each student a goody bag to take home with them.
