Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• A second story view of the main gymnasium.

• Progress is being made inside the elementary cafeteria.

• A view of elementary wing.

• The auditorium walls are going up.

• Metal stud framing, plumbing, and electrical rough-in at the high school wing

• Brick veneer installation at the middle school/administration wing

• Drywall installation and finishing in the mechanical areas

• Glass window installation at the student dining

• Fireproofing, Electrical Wire, Heating Water Pipe, Water Pipe, and Gas Pipe installation in the middle school/administration/athletic/student dining areas

• Metal Stud Framing, Ductwork Installation, and Roof Steel Installation in the elementary school wing

• Masonry Bearing wall installation at the auditorium

• Installation of storm piping and structures at the athletic facility

District Office

• Mrs. Snider attended a meeting concerning developing Snowmen families through Cadiz for the holiday season. The students at Harrison Central are designing snowmen, women, and children and will be producing some of these for the community.

• Mr. Morgan and Mr. Dunlap collaborated on state testing data and preparations for state testing in 2018-2019.

• Mr. Morgan met with Dr. Folger from the State Support Team in review of the district’s five year academic plan.

• Mr. Morgan attended meetings within special education throughout the district.

• Mr. Morgan and members of the Harrison Hills City School District committee met with the greater Local Professional Development Committee.

• Mr. Morgan and building administration collaborated throughout the week on academic endeavors.

• Mr. Ripley completed riding all bus routes for the 2018-2019 school year.

• District office and custodial faculty observed and tried out some equipment to consider for our new facility.

• Damons was in to meet with Mrs. Snider, Mrs. Harding and Mr. Ripley regarding new building services.

• Mr. Ripley and Ms. Howes met with Ms. Koniski to determine some uses for grant money secured by the Harrison County Health Department.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Students with a word count of over one million words in the STARS reading program last year received $25 Applebee’s gift cards! • Seniors (l-r) George Novotny, Riley Eberhart, Luke McKinney, Bailey Mitchell, Payton Taylor, and Mackenzie Jurosko were selected to spend a week in Washington DC in March with the CloseUp Program. It is a government studies program where they will get to meet peers from across the country, debate, visit monuments, memorials & museums, spend time on Capitol Hill, and so much more!

• The band “Tore up the Turf” at Edison on Saturday at the band show.

• Sergeant First Class James Gorrell talked to seniors about opportunities that the Army can provide.

• Husky golfers defeated Oak Glen, Steubenville Catholic Central, and Weirton on senior night! Thanks to Cameron, Hunter, and their families for a great four years!

• Harrison Central has some bright students! Neon/tie-dye day of Homecoming week was a success!

• The hallway decorating contest kept everyone entertained this homecoming week!

• Congrats to Allison Heavilin and Caden Dalton on being crowned Harrison Central’s 2018 Homecoming Queen and King!

• Students in Mrs. Taylor’s Forensics class have been analyzing crime scene evidence.

• A group of seniors will be hosting a 5K at Sally Buffalo on October 21 for their senior project! No fee, only a donation for the Harrison County Dog Pound! Bring your pup with you!

• Maddy Bender performed her “Scientist of the Week” experiment in Mrs. Wright’s class.

• Students went cross-curricular and used storybird.com to create stories for language arts that include steps of the scientific method.

Harrison East Elementary

• Mrs. McAfee’s first “super readers” of the new school year are proudly displaying their reading awards. The second graders all met their AR goals and are ready to set new one. Pictured below are Rylee Pelegreen, Hallie Blake, Ella Smith, Morgan Stock, and Bristol Moore. Good job girls!

• Designers with the new school came to Harrison East to share some furniture ideas with the staff. Teachers were able to experience the new facility’s desks and chairs.

• Ms. Jacobsen’s 1st grade class learned about characters and setting with the weekly reading story. They wrapped up the week by creating a character from the story and illustrating the main character and setting.

Harrison North Elementary

• The 4th graders joined a live, virtual learning experience brought to us by Ohio History Connections. We learned facts about our Constitution and got to view a version of Ohio's Constitution which will be available to the public around Thanksgiving.

• Tom Butch, Community Outreach Specialist from the CCH Environmental Group came to Harrison North and spoke to the students about recycling.

• School resource office Frank Valesko and Tiffany Stock began the Think First & Stay Safe program with 2nd graders.

• First grade made spiders after learning about them in class.

• Mr. Saffell held the September staff meeting.

• Miss Tipton’s 2nd graders were practicing spelling words using Wikki Stix!
