New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• The road connecting Leggett Lane to Country Club continues to be prepped.

• The elementary building has its first set of steps installed leading to the second floor.

• The gymnasium walls are being painted with block sealer.

• We now have our first interior view of the auditorium.

• The track has is starting to take shape with the first layer of stone applied.

• The elementary wing continues to have spray foam insulation applied.

• The Elementary/Jr. High gymnasium walls has its first layer of grey siding installed.

• A high school classroom is now getting dry wall installed on the block walls.

• Installing brick veneer on the high school wing

• Installing fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical at the high school wing

• Installing drywall in the administration and athletic areas

• Installing cable tray and above ceiling plumbers in the middle school wing

• Painting and final light fixtures in the gymnasiums

• Drywall, painting, and cable tray in the student dining and kitchen areas

• Metal roof deck, metal stud framing, and duct installation in the elementary school wing

• Masonry bearing CMU and concrete slab on grade at the auditorium and arts area

• Installing stone sub-grade at the track

• Installed underdrains and the water tie in at the roadway completion

District Office

• Mrs. Snider and Mr. Ripley took Nutrition Incorporated and a few cooks to visit cafeterias in Columbus.

• Mrs. Snider attended the Cadiz Business Association meeting where the Christmas Parade was discussed.

• Administration, some board members, SHP representatives, and Hammond representatives viewed Harrison North, Harrison East, and Harrison Central and discussed keepsakes and facilities for next year.

• Administration reviewed final furniture layouts for the new facility.

• Mr. Morgan attended several parent-teacher conferences throughout the District on Monday, October 8

• Mr. Morgan accompanied Mr. Gardner and Mr. Stevens of SHP to the new school campus with our technology team for a tour of the campus

• Mr. Morgan attended multiple conferences within special education throughout the week

• Mrs. Harding attended the Southeast OASBO Chapter Meeting. Topics addressed were Forecast Uploading; Donor’s Choose – Crowd Funding; Treasurer Liability Update and Legislation pending and that has passed.

• Mrs. Harding finalized all information and provided Mrs. Trushel to make the last expenditure report for MIECHV 2018.

• Mrs. Harding has been working with State Software and Strategic Solutions to resolve searching issues and loading of accounts to produce requisitions. The problem has been determined and a fix is forthcoming for both instances.

• Damon’s Supply was in to demonstrate equipment for our custodial faculty.

• Driver’s hours have been submitted for board approval.

• Mr. Ripley collaborated with Ty Lollini for our safety meeting on the 17th from 8 to 10 am at the professional development room at the district office.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• The soccer teams lit up the field for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Pink Out Night on Tuesday! Proceeds from their 50/50 and Chinese Auction were donated to the Harrison County Cancer Crusaders.

• Cheerleaders from Harrison Central High School went to Gables Care Center to help out with their “Pretty & Polish!”

Harrison East Elementary

• Harrison East teaching staff welcomed over 320 conferences at our recent parent-teacher conference day!

• Mrs. McAfee’s 2nd grade class learned about primary and secondary colors when their reading story had an orange cat with a purple sweater and a green hat.

Also, Noah Burdge earned his 50 AR points this week!

They were also busy recognizing nouns and feeding their noun monster!

• Special thanks goes to the Hopedale Volunteer Fire Department for coming to East and presenting safety advice for our students in recognition of Fire Safety Week. Firemen David Gray, Austin Marchetta, and Madison donated their time to share!

• Ms. Ashley from Puskarich Library came and began a reading club for 3rd grades ELA students. They started reading Sarah Plain and Tall.

• Ms. Van Camp spent many hours preparing and painting her annual snow plow for the Ohio Department of Transportation.

• Fall is for field trips! Second grade enjoyed a pumpkin-filled day at Schumaker’s Farms while 4th grade ventured to the annual Algonquin Mill Festival in Carrollton.

• Sixth grade students earned achievements certificates while mastering math facts with Ms. Ferrell this week.

Harrison North Elementary

• Beautiful fall foliage at Harrison North!

• Harrison North held many successful parent teacher conferences on October 8, 2018.

• Students in Preschool decided to become community helpers and became preschool fire fighters in Ms. Vancamp’s art class.

• Students in third grade received a presentation from the 4-H extension office called Fishy Science.

• Mrs. McMillen enjoyed making paper bag pumpkins with many classes.

• Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Altavilla from the Scio Elevians Club brought books to Mrs. Turner's first grade class.

• 4th graders at Harrison North have been busy reading books on Epic. Last week, Epic had a Fall Into Reading Challenge across the U.S. encouraging students to read. The goal was 8, 000, 000 Epic books! Students across the country surpassed the goal reading 8, 500, 424 books. Our classes read 81 of those books to strive to meet their 1st nine weeks AR Goals. Epic sent us a badge and a certificate. Congratulations 4th grade!

• 2nd graders from Harrison North met up with 2nd graders from Harrison East at Schumaker Pumpkin Patch and Farm Experience. Students received a lesson on the life cycle of a pumpkin, they took a hay ride to the pumpkin patch to pick a pumpkin, could pet animals, go through a straw maze, play in a corn box, and much more.

• Students in grades 3, 4, 5, & 6 attended the Algonquin Mill Festival.
