New Facility Update

Harrison Hills City Schools New PK-12
Construction Update

• Insulation is being added to the Jr./High and District Office areas.

• The Elementary 2nd floor has its first viewing

• The Middle School hallway is now having drywall installed in the hallway.

• The FFA Greenhouse block is going up.

• Additional windows are being installed and the main building marquis wall is having brick set.

• Completed installing brick veneer at the high school wing of the building

• Began installing brick veneer at the entrance area marquee wall and the elementary school wing of the building

• Installing fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical at the interior of the high school wing

• Installing drywall in the administration and athletic areas

• Installing cable tray and above ceiling plumbing in the middle school wing

• Painting and light fixtures in the gymnasiums

• Painting and cable tray in the student dining and kitchen areas

• Began ceiling grid installation in the kitchen

• Metal stud framing, duct work installation, plumbing rough-in, and electrical rough-in at the elementary school wing

• Installing masonry bearing cmu and in the auditorium area

• Completed stone subgrade at the track area

• Grading stone subgrade at the completion of Liggett Lane

District Office

• Thank you to Officer Brooks, Officer Valesko, Sherriff Joe Myers, Gale Zook, Sidney Star and Madison Young for completion of Bus Safety Week.

• School lunch week was also completed. Thank you to all for your efforts in making this such a positive experience.

• Our first district safety meeting was held. Thanks to our faculty, Harrison County Sherriff’s Office, The Cadiz Police Department and Harrison/Wheeling Hospital for your participation.

• Mrs. Snider, Mr. Morgan, Mr. Dunlap, Mr. Clifford, and Ms. Birney participated in the OLI4 review with SST staff Dr. Folger.

• Mrs. Snider attended the golf banquet held at Cadiz County Club. Congratulations to the coaches and team for a very successful season!

• Mrs. Snider attended an IEP meeting in Indian Valley School District.

• The superintendent attended Harrison Career Center's annual chicken barbecue fund raiser. Thank you to the students and staff for providing such a nice meal.

• Mr. Morgan attended reviews within special education throughout the week, both within and outside of the District

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with related service providers and administrators regarding embedded services

• Daughters of the American Revolution members Kay Singer and Janice Yager presented Mr. Morgan and Mrs. Snider their organization's donation of 12 books for district students relative to the U.S.A. Constitution.

• Tim Irwin from Meeder Investments and Mrs. Harding have been reviewing the district’s portfolio and discussing additional investments and reinvestments.

• The Five Year Forecast is complete and will be submitted for board approval at Thursday’s board meeting.

• Mrs. Harding and Mrs. Trushel have been working on the final budget for the FY19 MIECHV budget. New requirements are being addressed and the revised budget will be submitted prior to October 31.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• 243 non-perishable items were collected by the HCHS Leadership Group for North Carolina flood relief. Mrs. Wright’s room collected the most items and celebrated with an ice cream social!

• Spanish 3 students took a field trip to Heritage Port in Wheeling to visit the Nina & Pinta replicas and they enjoyed lunch at Tlaquepaque on their way home!

• The choir and band concerts this week showcased our musical talent!

• Soccer season for the boys came to an end on Tuesday night, finishing out the season with a record of 6-7-3.

• Congrats to Coach Gramling on being voted Coach of the Year for Division 2 Eastern District!

• Congrats to the girls soccer team on a sectional championship! They will play Wednesday, October 24 against Rosecrans at Coshocton at 6:30pm.

• Harrison Central Cheerleaders sold and released pink balloons at Friday's football game. Three hundred and thirty-five dollars were raised and donated to Cancer Crusaders.

• Harrison Hills students and staff design county snow plows

Harrison East Elementary

• Peer teaching Theme and RACE writing strategy in 5th grade flex class.

• Second grader Shayla Nameth reached 75 AR points this week while Aubrey Coffman and Hallie Blake reached 50 AR points.

• After reading about Abraham Lincoln, Mrs. McAfee’s 2nd grade class made time lines to record important events in their lives

• Fourth graders proudly displaying their Native American displays.

• Mrs. Noble’s 1st grade class made some beautifully scary Frankensteins this week.

• In recognition of Bus Safety Week, Harrison East students welcomed Officers Valesko and Brooks, along with HC Huskie (Maddy Young) and Safety Pup (Sydney Starr) as they shared with the student body the proper way to board, ride, and exit the school bus. Mrs. Gale Zook, the districts on board instructor, drove the bus for our special guests.

• Harrison East welcomed hundreds of parents this week as we celebrated Parent Lunch Week. Throughout the week parents came and shared a healthy, delicious meal with their child. Mrs. Beadling decorated the gym with festive fall decorations while Ms. Birney made sure a fun time was had by all in attendance.

• Harrison East celebrated Halloween by hosting a dance. Dozens of students dressed in festive costumes and danced the night away.

Harrison North Elementary

• Mrs. Rocchi’s 5th graders are working through a Bloom’s Taxonomy unit on Constellations. Trenton Healey is showing his diorama of The Big Dipper as part of the Application level piece of the unit.

• Harrison North had parents in the classroom and school lunch week. Thank you to all the parents, guardians, and family members who were able to attend.


• First grade students in Mrs. Soos’ classroom were working on the -it word families.

• Harrison County Sherriff Department, Ms. Gale Zook- Harrison Hills bus driver, Safety Pup, and Husky Dog presented bus safety to all students at Harrison North.

• Happy Boss’ Day Mr. Saffell!

• Ms. Vancamp, art teacher, along with students from Harrison North Elementary painted a snow plow that will be seen during the winter months attached to the front of a truck plowing snow in Harrison County.

• Third graders enjoyed attending Algonquin Mill Festival!

• Students participated in creating festive bags for the Harmony House Children’s Advocacy Center. The bags will be used at the upcoming fundraiser. The students learned about charities and helping others. The students were very excited to be a part of this activity.
