^{Construction Update}

• The auditorium continues to have drywall, lighting and sound installed.

• The high school gymnasium floor is now down with bleachers being installed.

• Construction for the glass connecting the elementary to the main building has begun.

• Elementary Classrooms continue to have carpet and casework finalized.

• Classroom technology is now being installed in the middle school.

• Painting and installing ceilings in the elementary school wing

• Installation of casework in the elementary school wing first floor

• Installing technology cabling in the elementary school wing

• Electrical wiring at the elementary school wing and musical area

• Installing wood gym floors

• Installing gymnasium bleachers

• Installing permanent flooring in the elementary school wing

• Installing exterior metal panels and trim at the student dining and high school wings

• Finishing drywall at the auditorium and arts area of the building

• Electrical, HVAC, and fire suppression installations at the auditorium and arts area of the building

• Interior glass and glazing

• Installing exterior glass and glazing at the elementary school connectors

• Installing hollow metal and wood doors and hardware

• Installing exterior site concrete at the front of the building and preparing for concrete in the main parking area

• Installing site storm piping and structures

• Installing field house underground plumbing

District Office

• Mrs. Snider met with Cadiz Improvement Council members Mike Sliva, Ken Mason, Mark Chisnell, and Hammond engineer Joe Swantek concerning finalizing the grant that is providing a bike trail and decorative lighting for the road leading to the new facility. Thank you to these individuals for their work on this project.

• Mrs. Snider attended Central's Band and Choir concerts. Thank you to Mrs. Ripley and Mr. Zalenski for preparing the students so nicely for great concerts.

• Mrs. Snider also attended Harrison North's spring concert. Mr. Dean did a great job educating the students on the use of an I Pad app to play music, playing of the recorder, and fifth and sixth graders on playing musical instruments.

• Mrs. Snider attended Harrison North's Honors Breakfast. Special thanks to the Lions Club for donating and cooking this great breakfast!

• Mrs. Snider, Mrs. Harding, and Mr. Ripley attended the Special Board of Education meeting where sale of property was discussed.

• Mrs. Snider worked with Hammond Construction regarding District Office move, turn lane construction, and completion of Liggett Lane.

• Mrs. Snider attended Harrison Central's FFA and the Softball Banquets. Both of these events were well attended and congratulations to the students that received awards.

• Mr. Morgan attended meetings within special education across the District

• Mr. Morgan collaborated with Hammond Construction and SHP on school construction progress

• Mr. Morgan led the District Leadership Team meeting in final review of 2019; we toured the new school complex with an operational focus

• Mr. Morgan prepared for time capsule installation within the new complex

• Mr. Morgan took steps to finalize curricular material purchase, sorting, and delivery

• Mrs. Harding and Mrs. Carter gathered information needed for the first School Facilities audit related to the building project.

• Mrs. Harding has been answering questions and pulling information for bidders related to the landscaping bid. Bids will be opened on May 20 at 1:00 pm.

• Ohio School Plan and Peoples Insurance have contacted Mrs. Harding concerning the school district’s liability, fleet and building and ground insurance coverage. Both companies have requested information and will both be providing a quote for FY20.

• Mrs. Clements is compiling all information for the salary and benefit notices for FY20, as well as preparing for the close out of payroll for the 2019 fiscal year.

• Mrs. Snider and Mrs. Harding have received medical, dental and life insurance renewal rates. Mrs. Snider has worked with JHP about the increase. The rates will be presented to the board at the May regular board meeting.

• Mr. Ripley met with two prospective drivers for the new school year.

• Mr. Ripley met with cooks to coordinate our supplies needed for the move and using up inventory.

• Mr. Ripley met with a representative from School Pride to discuss facility artwork.

• Mr. Ripley collaborated with SHP and Hammond on various buildings and grounds issues.

• Mr. Ripley coordinated with Rent-a-crate on the delivery of crates for faculty at each school.

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Choir and band wrapped up their year with entertaining concerts!

• Dr. Beetham’s nurse, April White, spoke to juniors about the importance of vaccines and mandatory senior immunizations.

• Thespian Troupe #1690 inducted nine new members, existing members moved up in stars, and seniors were honored with Thespian Honor Cords for graduation exercises. Congratulations on a great year!

• A big THANK YOU to Dori & John Snodgrass and Deputy Brooks for letting students check out their first responder vehicles!

• 7th grade math tournament students! Harrison East Elementary

• Congratulations to second grade teacher, Jessica Pellick and her husband, on the recent arrival of their first child.

• Mrs. Watson taught 3rd grade students how to construct pyramid poem.

• Fifth grade enjoyed a field trip to Wheeling Jesuit College and participate in their Challenger Center

• Third grade thoroughly enjoyed their annual field trip to Carnegie Science Center.

• For Harrison East final 6th grade graduation and farewell we decided to invite back many of our retired staff to join in on our annual festivities. We also included some student speakers, Bailie Ray, Coleman Dodds, and McKenna Mizer all spoke on their memories of Harrison East. Hundreds came out to watch our class of 2025 walk across the stage. A small reception was held for our retired staff afterward the ceremony.

• The fourth grade spent all of April discovering different kinds of poetry: cinquains, haikus, clerihews, and found poems. They created their own poetry notebooks filled with original poems as well as poems from famous poets such as Shel Silverstein, Ken Nesbitt, Robert Frost, and many more. We also worked through Bloom's Levels of knowledge exploring activities associated with each level. The unit ended with students walking to the Gable's Nursing Home where they recited their poems for the appreciative residents. In the afternoon, friends and family listened as the students presented their poems on stage. All students realized the value of poetry in sensing and appreciating the world we live in as well as expressing emotions. What a gift all humans possess!

• Congratulations to 5 of our 4th graders for getting their poems published in the 2019 Rising Stars Appelley Poetry Contest. Jaylie Byers, Leland Bonecutter, Sydney Smith, Dominic Grim, and Melody Ossman-Trushel. We are so proud of you!!!

• Second grade student, Gabe Stern won a book from the library while they were at East sharing information on the summer reading program.

• Mrs. Tammy Starr’s 21st Century students concluded their food exploration by creating a feast for the class.

• Congratulations to 6th graders Gabby Stull, Brice Tanner, Brodie Yeager, Kayden Dunkle, Anothony Pelegreen, Cheyene Twaddle, Kendal Hercules, Mykel Quito, Adriana Corder, and Brady Elliott as well as 5th graders Sophie Bland, Nicolette Peeler, Tyler Dolecki, Kaylee Sandy, Brady Moss, Hayden Bittinger, Tyler Garbrandt, Miranda Eckley, Kayne Dunkle, and Zane Carson for participation in the regional math tournament held in New Phillie. Brady Moss and Zane Carson placed 5th and 3rd, respectively.

• Harrison East’s final Memorial Day program.

• Safety Day for 1st and 2nd sponsored by Allison Dawson from the Ohio State Extension Office.

Harrison North Elementary

• Harrison North held its spring music program with grades 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 5th & 6th grade band performing. Mr. Dean and the students did an excellent job!

• Puskarich Public Library came to the school and presented their summer reading program to the students.

• Students from Kindergarten through 6th grade participated in a tribute to our Veterans.

Students brought in plastic bottle caps at the beginning if the school year to create a field of poppies to honor our Veterans.

I'd like to thank Harrison North PTO for purchasing all materials necessary to complete this project!

Students were first taught about the safety of handling power tools and the importance of wearing eye protection. Each student was offered to use my impact drivers, but not everyone was comfortable with it so others had more time to perfect their technique.

This momento will be displayed on the Court House lawn for the community to enjoy and to let our Veterans know we appreciate EVERYTHING they have done for our country!

• Preschool students enjoyed a fun filled day at the Scio Park!

• Students in 6th grade were honored for their accomplishments, and also bid farewell as the last 6th grade class of Harrison North Elementary.
