Huskies Talk Issue 13

Softball Field Construction

As of the fourteenth of January, new construction at the school has begun. The construction is the Harrison Central softball field. In years past, the girls’ softball team has played at Sally Buffalo fields. Everyone is excited about the new addition to the campus and the upcoming softball season.

The Board of Education held its organizational meeting on January 14th. where D.J. Watson was elected board president and Melvin Allen was elected vice-president. 

The Safety Training Grant was finalized.

Collaboration was held with faculty on student services.

Reviews within special education were held.

Collaboration with faculty on professional licensure renewals.

Work on the softball field, curbing and nailer-boards being put down. Fence post being set.

Relics are being set on green area outside of the track. Bell and bell tower are at the new school and restoration will begin soon.

The treasurer uploaded and submitted excess cost applications for FY20.

Reports were filed for expenditures related to federal monies received for ESSERS and Pandemic Support.

Mrs. Harding completed and submitted the Indirect Cost report to HPC.

The state has completed the school district’s audit for FY20 and the report is in Columbus for review before official release.

The fiscal office was notified that the 2-year audit for Family and Children First Council for FY’s 19 and 20 will begin this week.

 

Girls’ Bowling Buckeye 8 Champions

The girls’ bowling team participated in the Buckeye 8 Championship on January 11. They came out on top as they were champions for the second year in a row. The team is coached by Bobbie Lee Parkinson and Katie Norris. Bowlers from left to right; Lauren Best, Karlea Thompson, Alexis Lishick, Tory Thompson, Aleyna Runvitch, and Cami Basich.

Junior High School Spelling Bee

The Junior High School Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday, January 12th. Congratulations to the following students who have qualified for the Harrison Hills District Spelling Bee, that will be held on January 25th at 6PM in the auditorium. The following students from left to right; Ethan Carpenter (2nd ALT.), Isabelle Brown (1st ALT.), Hayden Bittinger (8th Place), Mikiahla Davenport (7th Place), Caleb Miller (6th Place), Carleigh Burgess (5th Place), Kara Blackburn (4th Place), Addie Haney (3rd Place), Pierce Sobleski (2nd Place), Nicolette Peeler (1St. Place).

Boys’ Basketball vs. John Glenn

On Saturday, January 9th, our JV and Varsity Boys’ Basketball teams competed against John Glenn at home. JV lost with a final score of 51-36. Varsity was victorious with a final score of 62-51. Senior Kobe Mitchell scored a season-high of 42 points and is now only 67 points away from a 2,000 point milestone. Their next game will be a varsity only contest on January 12th away against Bellaire.

Spelling Bee

On Tuesday, January 12th, 17 participants competed in the 2020-2021 Harrison Central Building Spelling Bee. After numerous rounds of battle, the following students will proudly represent our school in the Harrison Hills City District Spelling Bee on January 25th. The students moving on are: 2nd Alternate- Grace Bardall, 1st Alternate-Aubrie Moss, 8th place- Emma Palmer, 7th place- Chace Byers, 6th place- Katie Summers, 5th place- Lance Rupp, 4th place- Charley Miller, 3rd place- Kelsey Powers, 2nd place- Katie Cumings, and our Champion taking 1st place was Joseph Taylor.
