District Office

• The district received notification from the state of the award of a School Safety Grant. The funding will be used to assist in the purchase of rear perimeter fencing. 

• The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission held their meeting in Ms. McIntosh’s government class. Students were instructed as to how the OFCC calculates funding assistance for schools and viewed how their commissioning meetings were ran. 

• Mrs. Harding has communicated the abatement and demolition schedule to the Village of Hopedale Council, Green Township Trustees and the Puskarich Public Library.

• Mrs. Harding attended the Green Township Board of Trustees meeting on October 24, 2019. At that meeting, they decided that they would wait till after all abatement and demolition is done at Hopedale, before moving into the small out building that the board of education will be giving them.

• Mrs. Clements and Mrs. Carter attended the Jefferson Health Plan Semi-Annual Insurance/Health Benefits training on October 24, 2019.

• Mrs. Snider, Mrs. Harding, Mr. Saffell and Mr. Parker met the HHTA Labor Relations Committee on October 23.

• Mrs. Snider attended the Academic Challenge competition between Harrison and St. C. Congratulations to the Huskies on a great win!

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• Detective Robert Toker demonstrates how to lift latent prints during Mrs. Taylor’s forensics classes.

• Paige Hayes, from JB Green Team, spoke to high school science classes and all junior high students about enviromental concerns.

• Financial Aid representatives from Franciscan University and Belmont College came to help senior students and parents fill out their FAFSA on Wednesday night. The last FAFSA Night will be on Tuesday, November 5th at 7pm.

• Juniors in Scholars Government were the audience for the OFCC’s visit to the school.

• Ivan Vukcevich, from SHP, spoke to the seventh grade students about Greek and Roman architecture and the design of our new school.

• The Academic Challege Team won their first match of the season, beating St. Clairsville.

• The HC Band put on the “Lights Out Show” after the football game.

• Seniors on the floor during the final Pep Rally.

• On Monday, Harrison Central hosted the counselor meeting for 10 Ohio Valley School Counselors. Mr. Dunlap presented the Senior Service Learning class standards and results as part of the alternative pathways to graduation. Area counselors viewed our new facility and enjoyed lunch in our cafeteria after the presentation and were very impressed with both!

Harrison Central Elementary

• Second grader always have a great time at Schumaker’s Farm. Nothing says fall like a trip to the ole pumpkin patch!

• Positive reports don’t go unnoticed at Harrison Central! James Hunt and Jaylie Byers-Cornwell were recognized for kindness and responsibility this week! 

• Thanks to 2nd grade parent, Tonya Shockey for making this awesome pumpkin for Mrs. McAfee’s classroom!

• Kale Sproull earns 25 AR points this week!!

• Brinn Snyder is a peer tutor as she reads to Thomas Smith.

 

• 4th grade students were using the scientific method to conduct an experiment. They made pendulums and created a table to count the swings of a pendulum in 15 seconds.

• Mrs. Rocchi’s 3rd grade gifted students created some visuals for the most stories they read which included Davian Beal’s caption for Martin Luther King, Phoebe Goffolli honor the life of Francis Scott Key, and Analeigh Parrish created a habitat for a red-spotted lizard.

• October mean Bus Safety and thanks to School Resource Officers Valesko and Brooks for reminding students how important bus safety is as they travel to and from school. 

• Miss Jacobsen’s 1st grade class practices buddy reads!

• This week students in Ms. Ashley and Ms. Dayna’s preschool class brought in many show and tell toys for the letter “Tt”. Some of the items were: tape measure, tow truck, truck and trailer, tractors, t-Rex, tigers, monster truck, tongs, teeth, and some other toys. 

• High-five Fridays!!!
