Huskies Talk Issue 13

Athletic Facilities Update

Meetings were held concerning the softball field, the baseball field, and the football press-box.

Harrison Hills Organizational Meeting

The Harrison Hills City Board of Education will hold its organizational meeting in the administrative conference room on January 13th. at 5:15 pm.

 

 

Girls’ Basketball Defeats Edison

On Monday, January 3, the girls junior varsity started off strong leading 25-14 at the half. They ended the game with a score of 35-16. Kaily Banal had 9 points, Danica Rensi had 7, and Cali Lewis, Kaylyn Ledger, and Kendal Hercules all had 5. The varsity girls came out battling back and forth. They were victorious with a score of 49-34. McKayla Dunkle led with a career high 33 points and Mackenzie Harbold added 6 points.

Boys Basketball Defeats Martins Ferry

On Tuesday, January 4, the Huskies Boys Basketball team played away against the Riders of Martins Ferry. Both junior varsity and varsity were close games. The junior varsity was victorious with a score of 36-30 and the varsity was victorious with a score of 56-50.

Junior High Boys’ Basketball against East Liverpool

On Tuesday, January 4, the 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball teams played at home against East Liverpool. The 7th grade team was defeated with a final score of 33-11 and the 8th grade team was defeated with a final score of 28-13.

Varsity Wrestling Faces Indian Creek & Martins Ferry

On Wednesday, January 5, the varsity wrestling team faced Indian Creek and Martins Ferry. Unfortunately, they were defeated by both teams. The Huskies fell to the Redskins with a score of 47-34 and the Purple Riders with a score of 34-29.

Junior High Wrestling vs. Indian Creek and Martins Ferry 

On Wednesday, January 5, the junior high wrestling team went against Indian Creek and Martins Ferry. They wrestled seven matches against Indian Creek and lost with an end score of 28-18. The Huskies also wrestled five matches against Martins Ferry and were victorious with a score of 18-9.

Varsity Boys Bowling Defeats River

On Tuesday, January 4, the Huskies bowled against River at JR Lanes. The Huskies took the win with a score of 1719 and River 1399. High individual scores of the night were Corey Hayes 167, Chad Viers 164, Drew Culbertson 163, Kobie Hennis 148, John Gray 142, and Nick Jacobs 112.

Academic Challenge Falls to East Liverpool

On Thursday, January 6, the Harrison Central Academic Challenge team lost to East Liverpool, with a final score of 2-1. The team also acquired their newest member, Caleb Miller, who was filling in for Sean Forrester, but decided to join the team for the season.

Girls’ Varsity Basketball Victorious against East Liverpool 

On Thursday, January 6, our junior varsity and varsity girls traveled to East Liverpool. The junior varsity unfortunately fell to the Potters with a final score of 33-26. The varsity girls won with a final score of 38-34, accompanied by Maddy Butler leading all scorers with 14. This put the girls’ overall record at 7-6 so far for the season.

Junior High Boys’ Basketball Falls to St. Clairsville

On Thursday, January 6, the 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball teams played away against St.Clairsville. The 7th grade team was defeated with a final score of 41-8 and the 8th grade team was defeated with a final score of 70-32.

Junior High Girls’ Basketball Splits with Union Local

On Monday, January 3, the 7th and 8th grade girls’ basketball teams played at Union Local. The 7th grade was victorious with a score of 21-8 and was led by Randee Hennis, with 10 points. The 8th grade unfortunately lost with a score of 43-12.

Junior High Girls Basketball Team Travels to Shadyside 

On Thursday, January 6, the 7th grade team completed their goal of winning, while the 8th grade was sadly defeated, at Shadyside. During the 7th grade game, Randee Hennis scored 12 points, while both Mikayla Pelegreen and Kam Crothers scored 10. Their game ended with a win and a score of 39-25, while the 8th grade lost 25-14.

Varsity Bowling vs. Beaver Local

On Monday, January 3, the varsity bowling teams competed at Beaver Local. The boys bowling team fell with a score of 2234-1871. Individual High Scores were as follows: Drew Culbertson - 198, Kobie Hennis - 178, and Corey Hayes - 147. The girls varsity scored 1494 against Beaver Local who scored 1505, a loss by only a short 11 pins. The Individual High Scores were: Aleyna Runevitch - 161, Grace Cain - 154, Cameron Aughinbaugh - 111, and Erica Emhoff - 103.

Miss A. Tipton’s kindergarten studied the letter F and made frog letter f books.

Third Grade Studies Rocks in Science

Third grade students are learning about minerals and rocks! Students brought in rocks they found at home and worked through various stations in order to observe properties of their rocks. Students were able to observe and or test streak, color, texture, hardness, density, and magnetism.

Fifth Graders Study Scrooge

After reading the novel, students in Mrs. Bailey’s reading class made their own Scrooge characters.

Third Grade AR Achievers

Miss Ferrell would like to recognize and congratulate another group of third grade readers who have met their goal for the 2nd nine weeks.

Christmas Around the World

In Mrs. Carman’s reading class, students participated in a multi-cultural learning experience where they researched how Christmas was celebrated by other countries. They made a trifold to showcase their information.
