Athletic Facilities Update

Meetings were held concerning the softball field, the baseball field, and the football press-box.

Treasurer's Updates

Mrs. Harding completed the required filing for Medicare (CAFS funding) and uploaded to the MITS portal.

As the end of the calendar year approaches, it is time to complete the Tax Budget for Fiscal Year 2023. The tax budget is filed with the county auditor by January 20 and presented to the county budget commission. This will generate the Certificate of Estimated Resources for FY23 of which temporary appropriations will be developed. The budget hearing for the district has been set for January 13 at 5:45 pm. 

The final expenditure and summary reports were completed by the treasurer and submitted for the CRF and Broadband Connectivity Grants.




JustWrite Team

The JustWrite Regional Tournament took place on Saturday, December 11 at Cloverfield High School. Students wrote three short stories and competed for a chance to make the state tournament in May. Students participating in the tournament are from left to right: Cecilia Bellerive, Sean Forrester, Tyler Patrick, and Esther Lopez.

Girls’ Basketball Defeats Indian Creek

On Monday, December 13, the girls’ basketball team hosted Indian Creek. The junior varsity fell to Indian Creek with a score of 34-31. Kaily Banal led the team with 11 points, Cali Lewis pitched in 6 points, and Maddie Sedgmer had 5. The varsity team defeated Indian Creek 47-34. McKayla Dunkle reached her 1,000 career points, leading the team with 21 points, and Mackezie Harbold added 10 points.

Band Christmas Concert

On Tuesday, December 14, the music department held their Christmas Instrumental Concert. The concert band, jazz band, and symphonic band each played many pieces in the auditorium. Between the jazz band and symphonic band performances, the music boosters held multiple drawings for those in attendance. At the end of the performance, hot chocolate and cookies were provided for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to everyone for their wonderful performance and to those who attended the concert.

Girls’ Basketball Defeated by Martins Ferry

On Thursday, December 16, the girls’ basketball team hosted Martins Ferry. The junior varsity team fell with a score of 33-31 and the varsity team fell 49-38.

Competition Cheer Places 3rd in State

On December 11, the cheerleaders traveled to Wittenberg University, to compete for states. There were two rounds for the girls to compete in, qualifying and then finals. After performing, the cheerleaders qualified for the finals. Once they performed in the finals, they placed 3rd in the state! Congratulations girls!

Boys’ Buckeye 8 Challenge

On Saturday, December 18, the boys’ basketball team held the annual Buckeye 8 Challenge. There were a total of five games throughout the day. The Huskies won against Steubenville, with a score of 46-45, and Jonathan Vermillion received the MVP Award for the game.

Competition Cheer Brings Home Trophies

On Sunday, December 19, the Huskies competition cheer squads competed at Jackson High School. In their divisions, the junior high squad earned first, the high school traditional team received second place, and the high school gameday received second. All in all, it was a very successful day for the cheerleaders. Congratulations to the girls!

Scio Legion Donates Flags to Harrison Central

On Friday, December 10, the Scio American Legion donated flags to Harrison Central. Students from the Huskies Way Club accepted them on behalf of the students and staff of Harrison Central. Thank you to the Scio American Legion for the generous donation!

Wrestling Team Falls to Buckeye Local

On Wednesday, December 15, the high school wrestling team traveled to Buckeye Local. Unfortunately, as a team, the Huskies lost 36-33, due to the amount of forfeits. Individually, the wrestlers that won were: Servacio Lopez, win-decision 5-1, Leland Lopez win-fall, Bryce Wallace win-fall, Hunter Bittinger win-fall, and Landen Thomas win-fall.

Christmas Choir Concert

On Wednesday, December 15, the Harrison Central Music Program held their Christmas Choral Concert in the auditorium. The Concert Choir, Chorus, and Bella Voce all sang three songs, while Select Choir sang five. In between the performances, the music boosters held multiple drawings for people who were there. After the concert, hot chocolate and cookies were provided. Thank you to everyone who supported this event!

Varsity and Junior Varsity Bowling Clash with Buckeye Local

On Tuesday, December 14, the Huskies bowling team bowled against Buckeye Local, at JD Lanes. The varsity girls team scored a win with 1512-1307. The varsity girls with the highest scores were Cami Basich with 159 & 148, Aleyna Runevitch with 145, and Erica Emhoff with 112. The varsity boys were also victorious over Buckeye, with the score being 1667-1534. The varsity boys with the highest scores were Kobie Hennis with 193 & 161 and Chad Viers with 170. The junior varsity girls just barely fell short with a score of 862-859. The junior varsity girls with the highest scores were Angelina Utter with 121 and Hannah Ragusa with 113. The junior varsity boys pulled through a win with 943-824. The junior varsity boys with the highest scores were Caden Anthony with 117 & 134, Kyle Bake with 102, and Peyton Roski with 101.

Varsity and Junior Varsity Bowling Defeated by Conotton Valley

On Monday, December 13, the Huskies bowling team bowled against Conotton Valley, at Valie Lanes. The varsity boys team lost 2131-1689. The varsity boys with the highest scores were Chad Viers 177, Corey Hayes 175 & 147, Drew Culbertson 153 & 153, and Kobie Hennis 148 & 148. The varsity girls lost 2097-1726. The varsity girls with the highest scores were Aleyna Runevitch 176 & 163, Cami Basich 160 & 155, and Alexis Lishick 158 & 148. The junior varsity girls lost 1745-1136. The junior varsity girls highest scores were Hannah Ragusa 141, Cameron Aughinbaugh 110, Kendra Dewees 94 & 94, Angelina Utter 85, and Hayley Willis 80.

Holiday Ceramic and Pottery Show

The visual art department provided a ceramic and pottery display of projects made by students. Over the past several weeks, the students have created many art pieces, such as pots, bowls, sculptures, and some functional pieces. Many students are planning to give these projects away as Christmas presents, so this week was a great opportunity to show them off to the rest of the school!

Boys’ Basketball Falls to East Liverpool

On Friday, December 10, the junior varsity and varsity boys’ basketball teams hosted East Liverpool. Unfortunately, both teams suffered a loss on the night. The junior varsity boys lost with a score of 40-31, and the varsity boys fell 56-49.

Mrs. Taylor’s class is receiving life-sized 3-D virtual cadavers for her Anatomy, CCP Anatomy, and Forensic Science classes. Students interested in medical fields, vet schools, nursing, and forensics will be able to perform practice autopsies and animal dissections. There will be four bodies to analyze and animal cadavers with 1000+ case studies. Unfortunately, the actual machine won't arrive for three to four months, but she and her students are very excited to have the opportunity to use such an amazing tool.

Harrison Central Choirs Carol Through the Community

To celebrate the holiday season, members of the Harrison Central Choirs are caroling to spread joy to those in the community. The picture above was taken at Mr.Parker’s home, one of the places the choir traveled to do their caroling. We’d like to thank the Harrison Central Choirs for volunteering to provide a festive experience to the community.

Twelve Days of Christmas Fun Continues

2nd Graders Receive Gifts of Gloves and Chocolate

Students in Mrs. McAfee’s class were given snowmen candy bars with gloves tied to them from her parents who made and donated them.

Third Graders Learn to Make Ice Cream

Mrs. Rocchi’s 3rd grade 21st Century group made ice cream in a baggie with the owner of Ice Cream Island, Caitlyn Dowdle. This was the wrap up to a lengthy unit on ice cream.

Second Grade Visits Fourth Grade for Science Class

Thank you Mrs. Agostini for inviting us to participate in the owl pellet project. Our second graders really enjoyed the opportunity.

Fifth Grade Christmas Writing Fun

Mrs. Barker's 5th grade writing classes have had fun preparing for the holiday season! They did a Grinch creative writing, partner assignment last week. This week they are reading about, and researching Christmas around the world.

It’s Snow Much Fun in Second Grade

Students in Mrs. Knight’s class have been working to write a paragraph about how to build a snowman. After finishing their paragraphs, students completed a snowman in a snow globe craft. Finally, students built and enjoyed an edible snowman.
