Huskies Talk Issue 26

Congratulations to the Senior Ruritan Scholars

Congratulations to the 2021-2022 Ruritan Schools. The banquet was held May 3rd. and 184 students received awards.

Superintendent's Updates

Mrs. Snider, Mr. Dunlap, and Mrs. Kenny attended the Senior Community Service exit interviews.

Mrs. Snider, Mr. Morgan, and Mrs. Kenny attended the Harrison Career Center Advisory dinner.

Administration and Board of Education attended the Harrison Central Band/Choir Banquet. Congratulations to students on their achievements.

 

 

Varsity Track at Union Local

On Friday, April 29, the Harrison Central varsity boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Union Local High School. The girls’ field event placer was Grace Goudy, 2nd in long jump. Placers for the girls’ running were: Grace Goudy, 3rd in 100 meter hurdles, Nadia Tweedy and 2nd in the 400 meter dash. As for the boys’ field events, Hunter Boals placed 5th in shot put, while Taylor Cope won 1st in discus and Grayden Sproull placed 5th. The boys’ running team placer was: Hunter Bittinger, 3rd in the 800 meter run.

Music Banquet

On Sunday, May 1, the music boosters held a banquet for all music classes. Each student received one or more of either a certificate, lyre, pin, letter, or bar depending on what music class or classes they are currently taking. The seniors were provided a plaque with all of the classes listed that they have taken throughout their high school career, along with how many years they took each class. Each year seniors are chosen for some of the larger awards. This year’s award winners were: Mackinley Marshall, Louis Armstrong Award, Maggie Goudy, Director’s Award-Choir, Todd Stringer, Director’s Award-Band, Devan Woods and Abigail Creamer, National School Choral Award, and Devan Woods, John Philip Sousa Award. Congratulations to all of the music department students on another wonderful year!

Little Huskies Relays

On Sunday, May 1, the Harrison Central track teams hosted the first-ever Little Huskies Relays, beginning at 2:00PM. Children grades Pre-K-6 were able to participate and join the following events: long jump, soft toss, a 400 meter run, a 200 meter run, a 100 meter run, and a 50 meter run. Each group, organized by grade level, had their jumps and throws measured along with their times and/or if they ran; these were given to them after they were done with their events. For each child's hard work and dedication, they received a gold medal and a picture. Overall, 160 children had taken part in this spectacular event and we, as the Harrison Central track teams, hope that this event will be just as successful next year.

Softball Falls to Steubenville

On Monday, May 2, the varsity softball team traveled to Steubenville Big Red. The girls played hard, but they unfortunately lost 5-2.

Varsity Baseball Falls to Wheeling Park

On Monday, May 2 the varsity baseball team played the Wheeling Park Patriots at Mazeroski Field. Senior Trace Rutter started the game pitching, and the Huskies took the lead in the 4th inning, 2-0. By the fifth inning, the Huskies kept their lead, now 2-1. Wheeling Park brought out their bats in the 6th inning, taking a lead over the Huskies 5-2. Senior Caleb Blawut closed out the game pitching, and ended with a final score of 6-2.

Junior High Track Indian League at Edison

On Monday, May 2 the junior high boys’ and girls’ track teams finished their weekly Indian League, which was held at Edison. The boys’ team was the Indian League Champs, while the girls’ team was Indian League Runners-up! Congratulations to both teams!

OVAC Track Meet

On Monday, May 2, the track team traveled to St. Clairsville for the 2022 OVAC meet. The qualifiers for the girls are as follows: high jump, Danica Rensi, 400 meter dash, Nadia Tweedy, 3200, Gretchen Dulkoski, shuttle hurdle relay, Julena Kovacik, Nahia Ruiz de Alda, Grace Goudy, and Katherine Shearer, 4x200 relay, Nahia Ruiz de Alda, Grace Goudy, Kenzie Harbold, and Nadia Tweedy, and 4x400 relay, Kendal Hercules, Danica Rensi, Kenzie Harbold, and Nadia Tweedy. The qualifiers for the boys are as follows: shot put, Hunter Boals, discus, Taylor Cope, 800 meter run, Hunter Bittinger, and 4x800 relay, Hunter Bittinger, Sean Forrester, Charles Garbrandt, and Colton Howell. All of the qualifiers will be back at St. Clairsville on Saturday, May 7 for the OVAC finals. Congratulations to all of the athletes who made it to the finals!

Varsity Baseball Defeats Wheeling Park

On Wednesday, May 4, the varsity baseball team played Wheeling Park at Mazeroski Field. The Huskies defeated the Patriots in 9 innings, with a score of 8-7. Although the Huskies were down the majority of the game, they were able to come back for the win. Cabot Arbaugh had the final hit of the game, scoring the winning run.

Softball Falls in Buckeye 8 Championship

On Wednesday, May 4, the girls’ varsity softball team played Martins Ferry. Although the girls played well, they unfortunately fell with a final score of 8-5.

Junior Varsity Baseball Defeats Edison

On Thursday, May 5, the junior varsity baseball team traveled to Edison. The Huskies defeated the Wildcats with a score of 4-0. Congratulations to the Huskies for picking up on another win!
