Huskies Talk Issue 1




Huskies Defeat Mustangs 36-18

On Friday, August 19, the varsity football team played at Claymont, defeating the Mustangs 26-18. Mykel Quito scored four touchdowns, running for 118 yards and caught two passes for 82 yards. Tre Rex also had a 54-yard reception and Clayton Vermillion a 47 yard reception. Hayden Cassidy ran for 201 yards, Parker Hutton a 20-yard catch and Jace Madzia had a 32-yard field goal.

Junior Varsity Football Falls to Claymont in Close Game

On Saturday, August 20, the junior varsity football team lost in a close 22-18 battle against Claymont. Nico Wurschum led the Huskies with two touchdowns and 75 rushing yards. Brady Hyre rushed for 38 yards and one touchdown. Chaz Culbertson had one reception for 23 yards, and Beau Rinkes rushed for 42 yards.

Girls’ Soccer Team Falls to Catholic Central

On Saturday, August 20, the girls’ soccer team traveled to Steubenville Catholic Central. The team went in with their heads high hoping to break the three year tying streak. The teams were tied towards the end of the game, but the Huskies unfortunately lost 4-3. Angi Ferri finished the game with a hat trick, scoring all 3 goals.

Huskies Volleyball Falls to Red Knights

On Monday, August 22, the varsity volleyball team lost to the Toronto Red Knights. The Red Knights won in three sets; 25-20, 25-17, 25-15. The junior varsity team lost in two sets. Although the teams did not come out victorious, there was great effort shown.

Wheeling Hospital Presents at Athletic Council Meeting

At the Athletic Council Meeting, where all coaches are required to attend, Profesional Development was put on by WVU Wheeling Hospital in the Harrison Central auditorium.

Varsity Volleyball Defeats Buckeye Local

Girls volleyball played away at Buckeye Local on Tuesday, August 23. The varsity team defeated Buckeye Local in four sets. During the game Maddy Butler had 32 digs, as well Danica Rensi with 17 digs. Unfortunately, the junior varsity team lost their match. Congratulations to the girls varsity volleyball team with their first win.

Golf Hosts Match with East Liverpool and Meadowbrook

The golf team shot a team total of 195 on Tuesday, August 23. Nash Roberts shot a low score of 44, Heath Clay and Ocean Rogers shot a 50, and Kaily Banal shot a 51. Meadowbrook won the match shooting a 178.

Boys’ Soccer Loses Close Game

On Tuesday, August 23, the boys soccer team ended in a tough loss with a ending score of 2-1. Jace Madzia had the only goal and multiple shots on goal. Dean Forrester assisted Jace Madzia’s goal. Jaydis Yoho had 8 goalie saves.

Junior High Football Falls to Buckeye Local

The junior high football team lost their season opener on Wednesday, August 24, 40-0 against a talented Buckeye Local team. Although the Huskies dealt with many turnovers and missed tackles, they never stopped fighting and played very hard throughout the whole game. They look to improve and rebound when they travel to Edison for their next game.

Girls Soccer Defeats Cambridge in Home Opener

On Thursday, August 25, the girls’ soccer team kicked off their first home game with a win against the Cambridge Bobcats. Overall, the game consisted of three goals coming off the feet of #16 Angi Ferri (pictured above), and one goal coming off the Bobcats’ #14. After being tied 1-1 at halftime, the Lady Huskies brought the intensity in the second quarter, despite losing a starter mid-game to an injury, and conquered Cambridge!

Boys’ Soccer Defeats Caldwell

On Thursday, August 25, the boys’ soccer team traveled to Caldwell for their 3rd game of the season. Jace Madzia and Lunis Hildebrandt both scored a goal in the 2nd half of the game, making it 2-1. Jaydis Yoho had 12 saves for the game. The Huskies kept their lead for the rest of the 2nd half and finished the game 2-1.

Varsity Volleyball Defeats Indian Creek

On Thursday, August 25, the volleyball team hosted Indian Creek. The varsity team won in five sets; 25-21,25-18,23-25,24-26,15-12. The Huskies were led by Maddy Butler with 49 digs, Olivia Tonkovich with 27 assists and 10 digs, Danica Rensi with 18 digs and 7 kills, AnnMarie Corder with 9 kills and 5 digs, Trista Thompson with 7 digs and 6 kills, and Nadia Tweedy with 6 kills. Unfortunately, the junior varsity team lost in three sets.

Back to School Rally

On August 11, Harrison Central hosted a back to school rally in preparation for the upcoming school year. The event lasted from 3:00PM to 5:00 PM, and was held at the Stephenson Center. Local businesses set up stands and handed out free school supplies, while there were blowups and snacks provided as well.

Huskies Host Open House

On Friday, August 19, students were welcomed back to school during the open house. Students in elementary through high school were introduced to their new teachers and shown their new classes for this upcoming year.

Jefferson County ESC

On Friday, August 19, the Jefferson County Educational Service Center visited Harrison Central, introducing the Ohio Rise Program. The program is a specialized care program for the youth with multisystem needs and complex behavioral health.

Staff Enjoys Ice Cream Island

On Friday, August 19, Harrison Central staff was treated with ice cream from the Ice Cream Island truck to celebrate the start of a new school year.

School Resource Officer Addition

We are excited to welcome our additional School Resource Officer to the team, Deputy Smokey Thomas! Harrison Central is proud to partner with local law enforcement in comprehensive school security!


Husky Dogs New Press Box

The Press box is a high and new box. With the open windowed and big open room, teachers can sit inside upstairs with Announcers in the box. The bathrooms are on the right side with the concession stand on the left. Leaving the Press box new and improved.

First Week Fun

It’s been a busy, yet fun week in Mrs. Turner’s second grade classroom!

They made a wish for the year while adding magic sprinkles to their jitter juice.

Of course they had to have some of the juice to calm those first day nerves!

It’s our FIRST day of second grade!

Let’s make some new friends!

After reading the book "Our Class is a Family,” students enjoyed making family pudding.

They also painted friendship rocks with new partners as an extension of the book "Stick and Stone, Best Friends Forever."

Mrs. Turner’s class wrapped up the week by making Friendship Soup. They are learning how to be attentive learners and even better friends.
