Huskies Talk Issue 15

On Thursday Harrison County Health Department in conjunction with Harrison Central nursing staff and Franciscan nursing students provided Covid Vaccinations to Harrison Central staff and Career Center staff. Thank you to our nurses who organized these vaccinations for all. 

Administrator’s final evaluations have begun. 

Reviews were held within special education for students within and outside of the district

Collaboration on gifted assessment results took place 

Collaboration with the Harrison County Health Department on vaccinations 

Professional development with faculty was a focus throughout the week.

Progress has continued slowly on the softball turf installation due to snowy conditions. 

Mrs. Harding and Ms. Howes from Nutrition Group have met to gather information needed for a State Resource Management Review of Cafeteria for Fiscal Year 2020.

State auditors are beginning the audit for Family and Children First/Help Me Grow for Fiscal Years 2019 and 2020.

Mrs. Harding attended a zoom meeting with SCView concerning additional paperless programs and scanning services. She also met via zoom with PaySchools concerning additional services concerning school events and fees.

 

 

Boys Varsity Basketball

On Saturday, January 30, 2021, Harrison Central Boys’ Basketball defeated Barnesville. Both JV and Varsity ended with a win. With a great turnout, the varsity boys ended the game with a final score of 79-44.

Project Based Learning

Mr. Butler's Project Based Social Studies class showed off their latest projects, revolutionary timelines, using the white board room dividers as their canvas.

Academic Challenge

The Harrison Central Academic Challenge Team defeated Buckeye Local on February 4th. The Huskies were successful with scores of 28-10 in round one, 28-16 in round two, and 26-16 in round three. Congratulations to the teammates on a successful match!

Jr. High Competition Cheer

JR HIGH BEST IN THE STATE GRAND CHAMPIONS! We are so incredibly proud of our tumbling and non tumbling teams. Our tumbling team took 5th place and our non tumbling team placed first!!! Congratulations to Coach Bailie and both of her groups!

Junior High Wrestling Tournament

The junior high wrestling team held their annual John Kirkland Tournament. Our wrestlers did great during their matches, a lot of wrestlers went undefeated that day. Congratulations to all of our wrestlers!

Student Spotlight

On January 25th, at 6:00pm, the Harrison Hills City School District Spelling Bee took place. Twenty participants battled it out for the top eight places and two alternates that move on to the Regional Bee on March 13, 2021. Six elementary students will be proudly representing our school. Congratulations to Joseph Taylor (6th) for placing 3rd, Charley Miller (6th) for placing 4th, Emma Palmer (5th) for placing 7th, Lance Rupp (5th) for placing 8th, Chace Byers (6th) for placing as the 1st Alternate, and Katie Cumings (5th) for placing as the 2nd Alternate.

This Week with Miss Dale

Connor Coverdale and Miss Tasha have been learning about the solar system while Connor held his favorite planet, Mars.

Connor Coverdale has also been learning about the moon phases with Miss Tasha.

Soaring in Second

Students in Miss Tipton’s 2nd grade class, who met their 2nd nine weeks AR goal, were rewarded with a new book. There was one student absent from the photo. 

Kylie Montgomery, Landon Coffman, and Jayce McAfee all got 100% on their unit spelling tests! 

These kiddos got a 100% on their unit vocabulary test!

Brodie Sweeney and Landon Coffman reached their 75 point AR goal.

Alyvia Bryant reached her goal of 100 AR points.

Thriving in Third

Third grade students were given a specific energy source to learn about then were required to create a google slide show to educate their fellow students on that energy source. Here are a few of the projects.

Mrs. Starr's 5th grade 21st Century Enrichment students have been working on a research project about a career that interests them. For the final step of the project, they had to present their findings to the class and dress in the professional attire required for that profession.

Last week, Mrs. Starr's 6th grade 21st Century Enrichment students went into the classrooms and read a book that each of them had written and illustrated that taught a lesson. After reading to the students they had to reflect on the positives and negatives of their experience. 

Wyatt Zeroski put his snow day to good education use by building a snow volcano.
