District Office

• On January 28th. 6:00PM the Harrison Central Business Advisory Council held a social and presentation. Approximately 100 community members attended the event which culminated in a tour of the facility. Responses from visitors was extremely positive in the quality and quantity of offerings for our students and in the beauty of our new facility. Thank you to the Harrison Central Select Choir for the wonderful performances and to the staff that made our school shine that evening. 

• Harrison Hills has received notice that the district qualifies for a State of Ohio Prevention Grant.

• Mrs. Snider attended the Academic Challenge Competition. Congratulations to the team on another victory. Keep up the good work!

• The District Leadership Team met on January 30, 2020 Academic and Culture/Community Goals were discussed and progress noted

• Student service coordination was ongoing throughout the week

• Work on grant funds and district planning occurred throughout the week

• Mrs. Harding and Mrs. Trushel received notice concerning the MIECHV grant and various payments that are allowed. They reviewed the grant to determine that expenditures were in line with the guidance from the state.

• Mrs. Harding and OMERESA have been working on the inventory file provided from Industrial Appraisals to have it uploaded into the state software. OMERESA and SSDT are working to fix upload issues.

• Mrs. Harding and Nutrition Group did a conference call concerning the upcoming federal site audit for cafeteria. A questionnaire was completed and reviewed. No pre visit problems were noted.

• Mrs. Clements, Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Harding presented in Mr. Hlivko’s class. The presentation was about payroll taxes, W2’s and filing of taxes. Mr. Hlivko and the students were very welcoming – Thank You for having us!

Harrison Central Jr/Sr High

• On Saturday, January 18, the writing team competed at the JustWrite Regional tournament at Cloverleaf High School. Savanna White placed 4th in Division I and will be competing in the state competition at the University of Findlay on May 9. The first picture is of Savanna and the second is of Savanna and Sean Forrester.

• High school students tutoring junior high students during their advising period. 

• Juniors taking the practice ACT exam.

• New hurdles for the track have arrived!

• Junior High Winter Wonderland Dance was held! 

• The Richard Kirkland Junior High Wrestling Tournament was held, and over 20 teams attended!! 

• Congratulations to the Cheerleaders’ on a 2nd place finish at the OVAC Cheering Competition.

• January 8th grade Student of the Month, Trista Thompson!

• December 7th grade Student of the Month, Kendal Hercules! 

• January 7th grade Student of the Month, Drew Culbertson!

• Senior boys’ and girls’ bowling were recognized at their match against Barnesville!

Harrison Central Elementary

• Braxton Nice reached the 50-point club in AR points and Haylee Hatfield joined the 25-point club.

• Mrs. Wetherell’s 3rd Graders “shopping” during Market Day as a part of their Economics Unit! Students learned about being consumers and producers, keeping a budget, and making economic choices.

• Learning about Claudette Colvin during Black History Month.

• Ms. Van Camp is helping shape some fantastic art students!!!

• We celebrated the 100th Day of School in style!!!

• The 4th grade Stem project requirements this month was to use a white T-shirt. We had some tie-dyed shirts, a dog toy, pillows, bags, a headband, and flags. The creative this month was above and beyond. Keep up the good work 4th grade!

• As part of his service learning assignment, Alex spent his last two days in Mrs. Bailey's reading class teaching Spanish phrases to 5th graders. We enjoyed having Alex and wish him the best!

• Third grade students researched the use of fossil fuels as an energy source as well as alternative forms of energy such as biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar, and wind energy. Then students put together presentations to educate their fellow classmates on what they discovered. Presentations included story books, newscasts, power points, trifolds, dioramas, songs, and puppet shows.

• Congratulations to January Students of the Month! From preschool, Abbigail Eddy and Daphne Goffoli; Kindergarten, Bailee Hicks and Keagan Mallernee; 1st grade, Sophie Krankovich and Jace Monroe; 2nd grade Ryker Burdette and Reese Dunlap; 3rd grade, Cadence Dodds and Analeigh Parrish; 4th grade, Evie Richards and Austin Utter; 5th grade Miranda Cottrell and Joseph Taylor; and 6th grade Aubree Hodkinson and Shelby Dannehl.
