Huskies Talk Issue 14

Board of Education Updates

Treasurer Mrs. Harding gives the oath of office to Mr. Watson as president, Mrs. Mattern as vice president, and Kristen Willis new board member for the 2022 year.

Mrs. Snider is working with Harrison Community Hospital to finalize medical services weekly for Harrison Central. 

The dates of the regular board of education meetings are posted on the district website and district calendar for 2022.

Atheltics Facilites Updates

Meetings were held concerning the softball field, the baseball field, and the football press-box.

Treasurer's Updates

The budget hearing was held and approved on Jan. 13. Mrs. Harding made the required filing with the Harrison County Auditor.

 

 

Junior High Girls’ Basketball Defeated by Barnesville

On Thursday, January 12, the Huskies junior high girls’ basketball team played the Barnesville Shamrocks at home. The seventh grade lost with a final score of 20-10. Randee Hennis led the team with six points. The eighth grade team fell with an overall score of 31-9. Jaiden Pelegreen was the leading scorer with six points.

Huskies Bowling Defeats Bridgeport

On Tuesday, January 11, the varsity bowling teams competed against Bridgeport at JR Lanes. Both the boys and girls teams were victorious. The boys won with a score of 1654-1420 and the girls with a score of 1485- 1221.

Social Studies Mosaics

After studying mosaics, the 7th grade social studies students created their own mosaics for their second nine weeks quarterly assessment. The students were able to choose anything they wanted to create with their mosaic. They also had to include a paragraph about their mosaic including; why they chose it, what they would do differently, and what they learned. Students indicated their mosaics took a lot more time than they expected, some found it relaxing, and others said they would prefer to never do one again.

Buckeye 8 Bowling Championship

On Monday, January 10, the varsity bowling teams participated in the Buckeye 8 Championship. As a team, both the boys and girls placed 3rd. Congratulations to Aleyna Runevitch who earned All Buckeye 8 Team honors.

Boys’ Basketball Defeats Edison

On Tuesday, January 11, the boys’ basketball team traveled to Edison to compete against the Wildcats. Junior Varsity played two quarters and left with a win of 31-2. The varsity team played aggressively and by halftime they had a lead of 17 points. The game was a great competition overall, and the boys came out victorious with a score of 65-32.

Boys’ Basketball Wins Thriller against Indian Creek

On Wednesday, January 12, the boys varsity and junior varsity basketball teams both won thriller games against the Indian Creek Redskins. The varsity final score was 43-42 and the junior varsity final score was 35-22. Jace Madzia had the winning basket with less than 10 seconds left in the varsity game. Their game at Indian Creek on November 30 also ended in a Huskies one point win. The Huskies varsity team has now won four in a row.

Junior High Boys’ Basketball Splits with Edison

On Saturday, January 8, Harrison Central junior high boys’ basketball hosted Edison. Unfortunately, the 7th grade lost a close one with a final score of 26-23. The 8th grade defeated Edison with a final score of 30-22. Great job to both teams!

Junior High Girls’ Basketball Falls to St. Clairsville

On Tuesday, January 11, our junior high girls played at St. Clairsville. The 7th grade lost with the score ending 31-16. Randee Hennis led the team with 9 points. The 8th grade lost with a final score of 29-6.

Lady Huskies Defeat the Redskins

On Thursday, January 13, the girls’ basketball team defeated the Indian Creek Redskins, 63-37. Maddy Butler scored a career high of 27 points and McKayla Dunkle scored a total of 29 points. McKayla also had 12 rebounds and passed Katie Ellzy as the all-time leading rebounder, with a record of 836. The girls claimed the Buckeye 8 North Crown with this victory as well. The junior varsity girls played two quarters and lost 25-10.

OVAC Wrestling Tournament

The Harrison Central Wrestling Team participated in the OVAC Wrestling Tournament this past weekend. Congratulations to Lucas Thomas who finished as an OVAC Champion in his weight class. Also, congratulations to Landon Thomas as he finished 4th in his weight class, and Justin Sampson who finished 8th in his weight class!

Tweets from 21st Century

Mrs. Rocchi’s First Grade Enrichment group learned about a phonograph or record player. They listened to several records and even learned the YMCA dance as they listened to the song on vinyl.
