"Don't Give Up!"

Thank you to the Harrison County Juvenile Courts for providing the motivational speaker Terrance Talley. Students and staff were very impressed with his message of “Don’t Give Up!”

Cadiz Business Association

Mrs. Snider attended the Cadiz Business Association where a summary of the Christmas Parade, nominations of new officers, and changing the day to the third Wednesday of each month were discussed. 

Blessings in a Backpack

Thank you to Samantha McIntosh’s service learning class for packing 250 goodie bags for the Christmas Blessings in a Backpack bags to be distributed this week.

Harrison Central Cafeteria

The cafeteria staff are currently having issues receiving paper products such as 5 compartment trays, souffle cups and wrapped silverware

The cafeteria is having a Frosty's Fab Five countdown with over 40 possible winners! A student has a chance to win by eating in the cafeteria this week. Pictured below is our first winner: 

 

 

Junior High Wrestling Tournament at Claymont

On Saturday, December 4, the Harrison Central Junior High wrestling team traveled to Claymont for their first tournament. The Huskies placed 5th of the teams. 1st was RJ Hendershot in the weight class of 172. 2nd was Brayden McAfee in the weight class of 80, Beau Rinkes in the weight class of 128, and Andrew Cox in the weight class of 134. 3rd was Jake Evans in the weight class of 86 and Kayson Hidey in the weight class of 205. 4th was Zane Carson in the weight class of 86.

Girls’ Varsity Basketball Victorious Over East Liverpool

On Monday, December 6, the girls’ varsity basketball team played at home against East Liverpool High School. The girls were looking to advance their record to 4-2 and they managed to do so, winning 40-26. McKayla Dunkle led the team with 16 points.

Boys’ Junior Varsity Basketball Victorious against Beaver Local

On Tuesday, December 7, the boys’ junior varsity basketball team played at Beaver Local. The score at half time was 21-15. The Huskies finished in the game, winning with the score of 38-30.

Student Council Breakfast with Santa

On Saturday, December 4, Harrison Central Student Council held their annual Breakfast with Santa in the elementary cafeteria. Over 300 people attended the event. Proceeds went to purchasing Christmas gifts on two children’s wish lists. Thank you to everyone that made this such a successful event!

Celebrating Christmas with The Huskies

On Saturday, December 4, students participated in the Cadiz Christmas Parade. Students from the Theater Department were happy to be Santa’s helpers, and the band participated, as they marched and played Joy to the World. Thank you to everyone that participated and made the parade such a success!

Terrence Lee Talley Inspires the Huskies

On Tuesday, December 7, Terrence Lee Talley traveled to Harrison Central to speak to grades 7-12. He has become one of the most sought out school assembly speakers in America. He tells real life stories from his personal life that will make you laugh at one thing and then cry at the next. He authored the book, “Secrets Anonymous,” that tackles mental health and addiction using real students' stories. His book reached number one in its category on Amazon. Thank you to the Harrison County Juvenile Court for sponsoring Terrence!

Junior High Boys’ Basketball Vanquished by St. C

On Wednesday, December 8, both the 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball teams attempted to gain a win against the St. Clairsville Red Devils; however, they were both unsuccessful. Ending off the four quarters played, the 7th grade lost 46-11, and though the 8th grade put up a great fight, their ending score was 49-31.

Junior Varsity Girls’ Basketball Falls to East Liverpool

On Monday, December 6, the junior varsity girls’ basketball team played the East Liverpool Potters at home. The game ended 27-23, with a loss for the Huskies. Overall, the game was close and competitive. The Lady Huskies record is now 2-3.

Junior High Wrestling Falls to Claymont

On Wednesday, December 8 the junior high wrestling team had a match at Claymont. They fought hard, but they lost 30-21. Beau Rinkes, RJ Hendershot, Kayson Hidey, and Zach Cole picked up falls for the Huskies. All in all, it was a very exciting match.

Junior High Basketball Falls to St. Clairsville

On Thursday, December 9, the junior high girls played against St. Clairsville at home. The 7th grade girls had an unfortunate loss with a score of 26-16. The 8th grade girls fell short with an ending score of 32-11.

Boys’ Varsity Basketball Wins Over Edison

On Friday, December 3, the boys varsity basketball team had a game with Edison. The boys were victorious with a score of 64-25.

Harrison Central Hosts WVU Women’s Health Tournament

On Saturday, December 4, the Harrison Central girls’ basketball program held the annual WVU Women’s Health Tournament. Throughout the day, there were four games played. Wheeling Park played Steubenville, Malvern played Shadyside, Tusky Valley played Harrison Central, and Fort Frye played Union Local. Unfortunately, Harrison Central lost to Tusky Valley 51-16.

Varsity Wrestling

On Wednesday, December 8, the Huskies wrestlers had a match against Claymont. The overall dual meet score was 48-33, Claymont. There were nine weight classes filled. The Huskies won five of the eight contested weight classes and picked up a forfeit win. The five winners were: Gabe Marbais by decision, Hunter Bittinger by fall, Michael Smith by fall, Lucas Thomas by fall and Landen Thomas by fall. In head to head competitions, the Huskies won 27-18.

Boys’ Varsity Basketball Lose to Beaver Local

On Tuesday, December 7, the boys’ varsity basketball team played Beaver Local. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 10-9, Huskies, and at halftime, the score was 27-25, Beavers. As the game went forward, Beaver Local led 44-34 at the end of the third, and the final score was 58-49, Beavers.

Girls Varsity Bowling defeated by St. Clairsville

On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the varsity boys and girls bowled at St. Clairsville. The girls suffered a loss to St. Clairsville with the Huskies scoring a 1566 and St. Clairsville 1623. The boys were victorious over St. Clairsville with Huskies scoring a 1900 and St. Clairsville scored a 1726.

Americanism and Government Test Top Scorers

This past month sophomores, juniors, and seniors took the Americanism and Government test. The top scorers for the 10th grade were Dean Forrester and Riley Smith, 11th grade Drake Watson and Hayden Elliot, and for 12th grade Ben Puskarich and Destiny Arnold. Congratulations to the top scorers!

Boys’ Junior Varsity Basketball Defeats Edison

On Friday, December 3, the junior varsity boys’ basketball team played Edison. The boys won 35-22, remaining undefeated on the year.

Junior Varsity Girls Get Win Over Beaver

On Thursday, December 9, the junior varsity girls basketball team traveled to Beaver Local. The Huskies got the win, soundly, 40-23 over the Beavers. The leading scorer for the Huskies was Kaily Banal with 21 points.

Spelling Bee

On Friday, December 3, a spelling bee was held for grades 7th and 8th. The following student were the winners: Tyler Dolecki (1st place grand champion speller), Nicolette Peeler (2nd place), Allessa Dorn (3rd place), Justin Scott (4th place), Austin Dulkoski (5th place), Sophie Bland (6th place), Charley Miller (7th place), Isabelle Brown (8th place), Jaydin Hilton (Alternate #1), and Ethan Carpenter (Alternate #2). The listed students will now be qualifying for the district spelling bee. Congratulations to all the winners!

Girls Varsity Basketball Lost Against Beaver Local

On Thursday, December 9, the girls varsity basketball team played away at Beaver Local. Unfortunately, the girls ended up losing 32-28. Their record is now 4-3. McKayla Dunkle led the team with 18 points.

Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Balloon Parade

Spelling Bee

On Friday, December 3rd, at 9:00, in an auditorium filled with classmates, family members, and friends, 21 students from the 5th and 6th grades competed in the annual Harrison Central Building Spelling Bee. The students were very well prepared. At the conclusion of the Bee, 6th grade student, Lance Rupp was deemed the Champion. He, along with Aubrie Moss (2nd place), Morgan Stock (3rd place), Madison Taylor (4th place), Hallie Blake (5th place), Kyle O'Rourke (6th place), Ashlynne Corder (7th place), Katie Summers (8th place), Emerson Wood (1st Alternate), and Davian Beall (2nd Alternate), will be competing against the top 8 and 2 alternates from the Harrison Central Junior High Bee, for the top 8 places and 2 alternates in the Harrison Hills District Spelling Bee on January 13th, 2022 at 6:00pm. From there the winners compete in the Regional Spelling Bee held in March. Congratulations to all participants and good luck to those continuing on in the competition.

R is for Rainbow

Students in Miss Tipton’s kindergarten were studying the letter R and made a rainbow book. 

12 Days of Christmas Fun

On the fifth day of the twelve days of Christmas Miss A. Tipton’s kindergarten had three frozen princesses. 

Students in Mrs. McAfee’s class dressed up like their favorite Christmas characters.
