Ohio School Board Association's Conference

The Board of Education and District Office administrators attended the Ohio School Board Association’s conference in Columbus. This year’s event had some very interesting sessions. 

Cadiz Business Association

Mrs. Snider attended the Cadiz Business Association’s monthly meeting. Plans were discussed for the Holiday parade and decorating Cadiz square. 

Clue

Mrs. Snider, Mrs. Harding and numerous administrators and Board of Education members attended Harrison Central’s performance of “Clue”. Congratulations to students and directors on such a great performance. 

Staff Facts:

Our district is very fortunate to have a wide range of experience that is very beneficial to the operation of the district and the success of our students. We are very proud of staff.

As you can see below, HHCSD teaching staff is pretty evenly spread from 0 years of experience to our most seasoned teacher with 32 years of experience. This allows for sharing of “new” and “old” teaching techniques and ideas to better improve instruction for our students.

 

 

Cheer Competition

On Sunday, November 7, the Harrison Central Competition Teams competed at Lake High School in Akron, Ohio. Junior High, Gameday Comp, and Traditional Comp all competed. Junior High received 3rd place, Gameday received 2nd place, and Traditional placed 1st. Altogether, the Lady Huskies were grand champions! This was a great day for the Huskies, bringing home four trophies.

Varsity Golf Awards

On November 8, 2021 there were four awards presented to the golf team. Kaily Banal was awarded 2021 East District Division 2 Girls Honorable Mention. Nash Roberts was also awarded with 2021 Eastern District Honorable Mention. Finally, Aiden Sliva was awarded 2021 Academic All Ohio and 2021 East District Division 2 Boys Honorable Mention. Congratulations to all award winners!

Football Banquet

On Sunday, November 7, the football team held their end of the season banquet in the auditorium. During the banquet, the players were recognized for their performance throughout the 2021 season. Sophomore Hayden Cassidy was named offensive player, Senior Nathan Bertolino was named defensive player, and Junior Jace Madzia was recognized for the special teams award, along with Junior Cabot Arbaugh, who received the Husky award. The following students were given the captain award, recognizing leadership: Senior Matthew Smith, Junior Caleb Cowans, and Junior Cabot Arbaugh. Congratulations to the team for a great season!

Physical Science Virtual Field Trip

On Wednesday, November 3, Mrs. Macenczak’s physical science class attended a virtual field trip. The field trip was about “How does a wind turbine work and what career opportunities are available?” With the help of the Ohio Energy Project they were able to complete a turbine tour at the North Findlay Wind Campus. The students were able to see how the turbines are put together and see different career opportunities. They will then complete the Kid Wind Design Challenge and explore how wind turbines work and create different blade designs.

Girls’ Basketball Scrimmages Indian Valley

On Monday, November 8, our girls’ basketball team scrimmaged Indian Valley. Both varsity and junior varsity scrimmaged. The girls took the opportunity to receive extra practice, against another team, to prepare for the season.

Boys’ Basketball Scrimmages Indian Valley

The Huskies hosted the Braves on Wednesday, November 10. This scrimmage gave the two teams opportunities to do in-game reps to help them prepare for the season. The two took turns playing offense and defense for around five minutes each. The Huskies open at Union Local on Saturday, November 27.

Farewell Party for Mrs. Dunlap

On Wednesday, November 10, the Harrison Central Staff threw a going away party for Mrs. Dunlap. The staff gifted her with a gift card tree and a cake for her last day here. She will be missed by staff and students, and we wish her the best of luck in South Carolina.

Breakfast for Our Veterans

On Thursday, November 11, on Veterans Day, Harrison Central invited local veterans for breakfast. The staff and students of Harrison Central wanted to give back to our veterans to thank them for their service to our country. Our wonderful lunch ladies prepared breakfast and some of the teachers and students went down to chat with the veterans.

Academic Challenge Falls to Edison

On Monday, November 8, the Academic Challenge team lost their match against Edison. The final score was 3-0. The team’s overall record this year is 1-1.

Sixth grade students read to students in PrekK-2nd grade during the afterschool tutoring program.

Tom Turkey Disguises

Students in second and fourth have been working hard, yet again, to save Tom Turkey from being someone’s main dish this Thanksgiving! Pictured below are some of their creative disguises.

Fifth Graders Make “Fry Bread”

For Thanksgiving week, a group of 5th graders read about the Native American culture and the history of “Fry Bread”. At the end of the lesson, they were each able to try a sample of homemade fry bread.

French Students Visit Kindergarten

The French class came to visit Miss E. Tipton’s class and taught them how to count in French. The kindergarteners enjoyed working with the high school kids and playing the learning game teaching them the numbers in French.

Movie Time

Movie reward for 3rd graders for great effort on 3rd grade state testing.

Aiming High in 4th Grade

Miss Dodds has been working with the fourth-grade classes with the Aiming High Program. Students are learning life skills such as decision-making skills, how to cope with stress, communication skills, and much more. During this project, students brainstormed positive coping strategies. Then, they created a coping wheel that can be used during times of stress and anxiety. Some of their coping strategies consisted of playing with a pet, visualizing their happy places, calling a parent or friend, going for a walk, dancing to their favorite music, and so much more.
