Mrs. Snider attended the Senior Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to the graduates who will receive nearly one million dollars in scholarships. 

The Board of Education meeting was held on May 18, 2021. Reports were heard on the progress of the new girls’ softball field, final bids for the football press box, and the district’s retirement of Kobe Mitchell’s basketball number. 

The district was notified that the desk audit of HMG MIECHV funding showed no findings and funds were expended according federal rules.

Mrs. Harding and Mrs. Snider completed and submitted the Special Education Fiscal Monitoring Survey.

Mrs. Harding and Mr. Saffell met with Ohio School Plans representative concerning insurance and policy review.
 

FFA Banquet

On Saturday, May 15th, our school’s FFA chapter held their annual end-of-year banquet to honor and recognize the members. Many members received awards such as Star Member awards and outstanding fruit sale recognition. Towards the end of the ceremony, the current officers stepped down so the new officers could take their place. Congratulations to all members who were recognized and to the new officers.

Softball Senior Recognition

Retiring the #1 Uniform

On Tuesday, May 18 Kobe Mitchell was honored for Division III Player of the Year, along with the retiring of the #1 basketball jersey. Kobe plans to continue his basketball career at Akron University. Congratulations to Kobe on all of his achievements!

4x800 Girls Regional Qualifiers

On May 20th, the girls 4x800 team qualified for regionals after they advanced from districts with a time of 10:45.18. From left to right is Nadia Tweedy, Abbi Kelley, Destiny Arnold, and Jasmine Arnold. Thea Haney also qualified for regionals in shot put. Good luck to the girls at regionals!

Senior Awards Recognition

On Thursday, May 20, the seniors were awarded with scholarships at a recognition ceremony. Congratulations to all of the seniors who were awarded these scholarships and to those in the top 10. Thriving in Third

Third grade learned about plant parts and functions, needs, adaptations, and life cycles. Students planted various vegetable seeds and were able to take home what they planted. If all goes well, they will enjoy eating their vegetables later this summer.

Fabulous in Fourth

In fourth grade, Ms. V has been teaching the students basic sewing and how to sew on a button for a Mother’s Day magnet.

Fourth grade held a spelling bee last week. There were two winners from each home room. The top ten then faced off for the following place finishes: the top boy speller, the top girl speller, and the overall grand champion speller. Congratulations to the top ten 2021 spelling bee winners of the fourth grade: Maci Manbeck, Mason Best, Evan Johnson, Lilly Thomas, Waylon Hodkinson, Aleah Watson, Logan DeWees, Sophia Sedgmer, Jax Triplett, and Lilly Yarrish. An extra congratulations to Logan DeWees for being the top speller for the boys and to Sophia Sedgmer for being the top speller for the girls. The overall Super Grand Champ was Sophia Sedgmer! 

The fourth grade students went on an adventure of their choice within the Reading Unit 4 topic of puzzles and mysteries. First, they built background knowledge using the leveled readers to fill in mind webs, plot graphic organizers, and vocabulary graphs. Then, they used creativity and collaboration as they made artifacts to demonstrate and present what they learned. Projects consisted of: Escape Rooms, Murals, Scavenger Hunts, Puppet shows, and much more!

Fourth graders have also been working hard on their Wax Museum projects the past few weeks. On Thursday and Friday, they presented their speeches in full costume with props. This year was a little different than in years past, as students were recorded giving their presentations standing in front of a green screen. Succeeding in Sixth

Students took on stitching poppies for our veterans. They learned a whipstitch, a running stitch, and how to sew on a button. Ms. VanCamp and her sixth graders then turned the lovely poppies into magnets and they will be given to the Cadiz, Hopedale, and Scio American Legions to show our appreciation and gratitude for their service.
