Huskies Talk Issue 3

Softball Field

The Motz Group toured the Harrison Central softball field and agreed to re-roll the field turf. 

SHP representatives toured the Harrison Central softball complex.

District Leadership Team

The DLT met on September 22 in collaboration of district focus and professional development for future planning.

Updates from the Treasurer's Office

The Westgate Elementary Building is almost ready to transition out of the district’s possession. Mrs. Harding worked there last week and will continue this week to organize any remaining items and dispose of all garbage. Shred It will be on site as well this week. She was assisted by Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Johnson and janitorial staff. 

Mrs. Harding has been working on permanent appropriations to be approved this week. In addition, she has been working on the 5 year forecast to be approved next month.

The treasurer has submitted all final expenditure reports that are due by September 30.
 

 

Cross Country at Meadowbrook

On Saturday, September 18 our cross country team ran at Meadowbrook. The top three girls were Maddy Edwards with a time of 25:32.51, Gretchin Dulkoski with a time of 29:24.80, and Danielle Drapp with a time of 31:11.83. The top three boys were Charles Garbrandt with a time of 21:33.69, Aiden Hays with a time of 21:35.05, and Colton Howell with a time of 22:22.31.

Girls’ Soccer Victorious Over Creek

Saturday, September 18, our girls’ soccer team traveled to Indian Creek. It was a battle in the first half with neither team scoring a goal, but the second half was a whole different story, with Lexi Smith and Collette Downs each scoring goals with the help of Rebecca Downs and Angi Ferri assisting with the goals. The total of shots on goal was an immense 15 shots, while Vanessa Dowdle had seven saves. In the end, the score was 2-1 with the Huskies taking the win.

Boys’ Soccer Falls to Coshocton

On Saturday, September 18, the Huskies suffered another defeat to the Coshocton Redskins. The score was 9-0. Jaydis Yoho was in goal and recorded six saves. Unfortunately, the Huskies played well, but ultimately fell to Coshocton’s onslaught.

Varsity Golf

On Monday, September 20, varsity golf was victorious against Steubenville Central, but was defeated by Barnesville. Aiden Sliva shot 42, Nash Roberts shot 45, Wyatt Foreman shot 49, and Heath Clay shot 52.

8th Grade Volleyball Conquers Shadyside

On Tuesday, September 21, the 8th grade volleyball team traveled to Shadyside, successfully ending in another win. The overall score was 2-0, with the scores being 25-20 and 25-22. The scores were close, as Shadyside put up a good fight; however, our Harrison Central 8th grade volleyball team added another win to their record.

Varsity Volleyball vs. Edison

On Thursday, September 23, the Huskies varsity volleyball team beat the Edison Wildcats 3-1. The first set score was 21-25, the second set was 25-10, the third was 25-20, and the fourth was 25-19. McKayla Dunkle led the team with 20 kills and 5 blocks, Maddy Butler had 28 digs, Sarah Touville had 15 digs, Danica Rensi had 11 digs, and Logan Johnson had 24 assists.

8th Grade Volleyball Beats Bellaire

On Monday, September 20, the 8th grade volleyball team won against Bellaire. The final score was 2-0, with the first set being 27-25 and the second set being 25-19. The two teams both played very well until the end, but Harrison's girls fought and they won the match.

JV Volleyball Defeated by Edison

On Thursday, September 23, the junior varsity volleyball team lost to Edison, at home, by a score of 2-1. They lost their first set 25-8. After they lost their first set, the Huskies came back with a win for their second set, 25-21, but unfortunately lost their third set 25-18.

Varsity Football Falls to Hawken

On Friday, September 17, the varsity football team hosted Hawken. The game was close through all four quarters, the first quarter ended with Hawken 6, Huskies 0, the Huskies were up at halftime, 14-13, the game was tied at the end of the third, 27-27, but in the end, the final score was 34-27, Hawken. Nathan Bertolinio led the Huskies running for 150 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Nuclear Engineers in Physical Science

On Wednesday, September 22, two nuclear engineers came to speak with the freshmen science classes. They informed the students about the many aspects of nuclear chemistry, and spoke about the potential jobs in the Navy. The engineers were very interactive with the students, providing them a great overall experience.

Golf Victorious over Edison

On Tuesday, September 21, the Huskies golf team traveled to Edison. While at Spring Hills Golf Course, the Huskies won with a score of 172 and Edison with a score of 212. The Huskies top boys were Nash Roberts with 37 and Aidan Sliva with 41.

Junior High Football Crushes Martins Ferry

The junior high football team played Martins Ferry on Thursday, September 23. The Huskies had a great performance, crushing the Purple Riders 38-0.

Golf Victorious on Senior Night

The golf team wrapped up the regular season on Senior Night with wins over Edison, Indian Creek, and Toronto. The Huskies were led by senior Aiden Sliva and freshman Nash Roberts who both shot 43. Senior Aiden Sliva has been a 4 year participant in golf and will be missed in the future. The golf team will play the sectional tournament on September 27th at Cadiz Country Club with the hopes of continuing a 4 year streak of being a team qualifier.

Kindergarteners Make Book Boxes

A few of Miss Elizabeth Tipton’s kindergarten students took advantage of the book tip that was in last week’s newsletter. They created book boxes to keep all their small readers from school in. That way when they want to read one, they are easy to find. Nice job boys! Happy reading!

First Grade Say Hello Fall

Mrs. Toward’s first grade class wrapped up their week in reading by making a craft to go along with the setting and characters from the story. They also kicked off the first day of fall with a pumpkin painting. Students will be learning all things pumpkins for the next few weeks!

Third Grade Races to Make Words

Mrs. Wetherell’s flex group paired up and raced against others to make words using letter cards they made themselves.

Fourth Grade Field Trip

On Friday, September 17 fourth grade students took their annual trip to Zitko Farm. Throughout the day students learned about different types of animals.
