Huskies Talk Issue 5

Softball Field Progress

The Harrison Central softball field is nearing completion. Bleachers and final grading and concrete will be completed this week.

Mazeroski Field

Plans for the new Mazeroski Field are being finalized and demolition should begin this month. 

 

 

Homecoming King and Queen

On Friday, October 8, the homecoming class attendants, and king and queen candidates were announced at the varsity football against Edison. The female class attendants and queen candidates were led into the stadium by the band and cheerleaders, which they met at the school, after the parade. Our male class attendants and king candidates were announced and escorted across the field before the game, where Nathan Bertolino was crowned homecoming king. At halftime, the female class attendants and queen candidates were announced and escorted across the field, where McKayla Dunkle was crowned homecoming queen. Congratulations Nathan and McKayla!

Homecoming Dance

On Saturday, October 9, the 2021 homecoming dance was held in the gym from 7:00pm-10:00pm. There were over 300 students in attendance and everyone had a wonderful time! Special thanks to the administrators, teachers, and senior class officers, who helped to bring everything together and make it a memorable night!

Junior Varsity Football Falls to Beaver Local

On Saturday, October 2, the Harrison Central Junior Varsity Huskies played against Beaver Local. The Huskies tried their best throughout the game, but unfortunately, they did not win. The Huskies never gave up, as they scored their only touchdown in the third quarter. The final score was 48-6, Beavers.

Junior Varsity Volleyball vs. Steubenville

On Saturday, October 2, the junior varsity volleyball team took on Steubenville, at home. The game went into three sets with the Huskies winning one and Steubenville winning two. The Huskies won the first set 25-15, then lost the second set 25-19, and lost the last set 25-14.

Varsity Volleyball Defeats Steubenville

On Saturday, October 2, the varsity volleyball team beat Steubenville in four sets. The scores of the sets were 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19. In the first set, Maddy Butler surpassed the 1,000 career dig mark. She now has 1,021 career digs. In the second set, McKayla Dunkle recorded her 1,000th career kill. She currently has 1,012 kills in her career. Maddy and McKayla became the 4th and 5th players, respectively, in Harrison Central history to surpass the 1,000 point mark. It was overall a very exciting day for varsity volleyball.

Junior High Volleyball vs. Strasburg

On Saturday, October 2, the junior high volleyball team traveled to Strasburg. The 7th grade won 2-1. The first set they lost 25-12, but they won the second and third sets, 25-22 and 25-18. Unfortunately, the 8th grade Huskies lost 2-0. The first set, they lost 25-19 and in the second set they lost 25-22.

Board of Elections Speaks to Juniors and Seniors

The Board of Elections visited the school on Friday, October 1 and spoke to junior and senior students about the voting process, along with how to register to vote. They answered questions and walked the students through different websites to understand how the process works and where to contact people from the government to ask questions if they ever have any in the future.

Varsity Girls’ Soccer Defeated by Carrollton

On Monday, October 4, the girls soccer team battled the Carrollton Warriors. The girls unfortunately lost 7-0. They worked hard, but after a long weekend were not able to pull through. They are looking forward to finishing the season off strong, as tournaments are coming up soon.

7th Grade Volleyball Defeats St. Clairsville

On Tuesday, October 5, the 7th grade volleyball team traveled to St. Clairsville for the last regular game of their season. The Huskies swept St. Clairsville in two sets, 25-16 and 29-27, going home with a win and a great end to their season. The 7th grade Huskies are now headed into tournaments!

Varsity Volleyball vs. East Liverpool

On Tuesday, October 5, the varsity volleyball team suffered a defeat against East Liverpool, with the final score of 3-0. The first and second sets were 25-15, and the third set was 25-16. McKayla Dunkle had 9 kills, Sarah Touville had 8 digs, Maddy Butler had 13 digs, and Danica Rensi had 14 digs.

Junior Varsity Volleyball Defeats Martins Ferry

On Thursday, October 7, the junior varsity volleyball team defeated Martins Ferry 2-1. They won the first set 25-14, lost the second set 18-25, and won the third set 25-21.

Cross Country at Cambridge

On Saturday, October 2, our varsity cross country team ran at Cambridge. Our top times for the girls were; Maddy Edwards with a time of 22:59.38, Gretchen Dulkoski with a time of 26:35.72, and Danielle Drapp with a time of 29:18.25. Our top times for the boys were; Brent Malcomb with a time of 20:12.93, Aiden Hays with a time of 20:55.06, and Colten Howell with a time of 22:00.46.

Varsity Volleyball at Barnesville

On Monday, October 4, the varsity volleyball team played away at Barnesville. Barnesville took the win, 3-0. The set scores were 25-15, 25-15 and 25-16. McKayla Dunkle had 11 kills and 6 digs, Logan Johnson had 17 assists and 9 digs, Maddy Butler had 21 digs, Danica Rensi had 14 digs, and Sarah Touville had 9 digs.

Varsity Boys’ Soccer

On Tuesday, October 5, the boys’ soccer team lost to Indian Creek. The score was 5-0. Jaydis Yoho was in goal and had 7 saves. The Huskies played as hard as they could but unfortunately couldn’t beat the Redskins.

Junior Varsity Volleyball Defeated by East Liverpool

On Tuesday, October 5, the junior varsity volleyball team lost to East Liverpool, 2-0. Their first set was 25-13 and their second set was 25-14. Even though the girls played hard and strong together as a team, they ended up falling to the Potters.

Cross Country Runs Against Edison and Brooke

On Wednesday, October 6, the cross country team ran at home with Edison and Brooke. Top three girls were; Maddy Edwards with a 26:00 at 2nd place, Gretchin Dulkoski with a 27:00 at 3rd place, and Danielle Drapp with 32:00. Top three boys were; Charles Garbrandt with a 21:36, Colton Howell with a 21:50, and Aiden Hayes with a 22:25. The girls tied Edison 28-28 and the boys lost 29-26.

Junior Varsity Volleyball Defeats Barnesville

On Monday, October 4 , the junior varsity volleyball team beat Barnesville, 2-1. The first set they won 25-15, the second set they lost 11-25, and the last set they won 26-24.

Varsity Boys’ Soccer Beats Sandy Valley

On Thursday, October 7, the varsity boys soccer team played at Sandy Valley. The Huskies left with a win, with a score of 1-0. The Huskies scored their goal in the second half of the game. Kaden Jurosko assisted Sean Forrester with the goal for the Huskies. The Huskies record is now 5-6-1.

“Drive to Victory” Challenge

We have accepted the “Drive to Victory" challenge vs. Indian Creek, which will be held October 11-15. The school with the most donations wins a $250 scholarship! There will be a Goodwill donation truck available, Monday-Thursday 7AM-3PM and Friday 7AM-Noon. There will be a donation trailer at Indian Creek during the same time frame. Time to start cleaning out your closets! Let’s beat Creek twice!

Homecoming Spirit Week

Harrison Central celebrated homecoming all week long with themes each day. The themes were as follows: Monday - Superhero Day, Tuesday - Jersey/Team Day, Wednesday- Dress like your teacher/coach, Thursday - Twin Day, Friday - Husky Spirit Day. The festivities included all grades, PK-12, and faculty as well. We hope everyone had fun!

8th Grade Volleyball vs. Barnesville

On Monday, October 4, the 8th grade volleyball team played their last home game against Barnesville. Though this was a major event, they were defeated with an overall score of 2-0. During the first set, the 8th grade put up a great fight with the score being 20-25; however, the second set finished off with a score of 15-25.

7th Grade Volleyball vs. Barneville

On Monday, October 4, the 7th grade volleyball team was defeated by Barnesville, 2-1. The girls lost the first set 21-25, won the second set 25-21, and lost the third set 11-25. The girls are now looking forward to the tournament.

On Tuesday, October 5, the 8th grade volleyball team played at St. Clairsville. Unfortunately, the Huskies lost both sets; 25-18 in the first set and 25-22 in the second one. The game was great, both of the teams did their best, but finally the St.Clairsville team won.

Varsity Football Falls to Beaver Local

On Friday, October 1, Harrison Central traveled to Beaver Local. Unfortunately, the Huskies lost 48-14. Hayden Cassidy led the team, running for 181 yards.

Junior High Football Victorious over Union Local

On Wednesday, October 6, the junior high football team played at Union Local. The Huskies were victorious with a score of 34-28. Congratulations to the team for picking up another win on the season.
