Superintendent's Updates

Mrs. Snider and Mrs. Kenny attended the Belmont Career Center Advisory Meeting.

Mrs. Snider attended the OMERESA regional meeting where presentations were given on products available, new legislature, and school court cases.

Board of Education Meeting

The April Board of Education meeting was held Thursday April 28th. Presentations were given by Mr. Parker, Mr. Saffell, and Ms. Doren.

 

 

High School Track Competes at Indian Valley

On Friday, April 22, the girls’ and boys’ varsity track teams traveled to Indian Valley for a meet. The girls’ event placers were: 100 hurdles, 1st place, Grace Goudy and 2nd place, Julena Kovacik, 100 meter dash, 2nd place, TyLynn Smith and 3rd place, Maddy Bender. In the 4x200, the girls got 1st place. 400 meter run, 1st place, Nadia Tweedy. 800 meter run, 3rd place, Kendal Hercules. 200 meter dash, 2nd place, Grace Goudy. 3200 meter run, 2nd place, Gretchin Dulkoski and 3rd place, Grace Dulkoski. Long Jump, 1st place, Grace Goudy and 3rd place, Kenzie Harbold. Discus, 2nd place, Carys Haney and 3rd place, Katherine Shearer. Shot Put, 2nd place, Carys Haney. Pole Vault, 3rd place, Ava Carson. As for the boys, placers were: 100 hurdles, 3rd place, Brent Malcomb, 400 meter dash, 2nd place, Andy Smith, and 800 meter run, 2nd place, Hunter Bittinger. For the 3200 meter run, 2nd place, Bryce Wallace and 3rd place, Aiden Hays. Long Jump, 1st place, Brent Malcomb, discus, 1st place, Taylor Cope and 2nd place, Hunter Boals, and shot put, 1st place, Hunter Boals and 3rd place, Taylor Cope.

Varsity Baseball Defeats St. Clairsville in OVAC Semi-Final

On Saturday, April 23, the varsity baseball team played a tough game against the St. Clairsville Red Devils in the OVAC Semi-Final. The Huskies got an early one run lead in the second inning, and continued to keep the lead through the game. Junior, Tre Rex pitched a complete game, ending the 7th inning with three strikeouts, and bringing the Huskies to a victory. The game ended with a score of 1-0. The Huskies now move on to the OVAC 4A Championship to battle the Cambridge Bobcats!

Varsity Baseball Defeats Buckeye

On Monday, April 25, the varsity baseball team hosted the Buckeye Local Panthers. The Huskies won 3-0 behind a strong effort by Trace Rutter and Caleb Blawut on the mound. Kaden Jurosko brought home two Huskies with an RBI single.

Junior High Track Competes in Indian League

On Monday, April 25, the junior high track team traveled to Edison to participate in the Indian League. Harrison Central went against the Junior Dons while Indian Creek was against Bishop Mussio. The girls won overall with a score of 74. Their first place finishers were: Kimber Rodgers, discus, Destiny Bethel, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and high jump, Grace Miller, 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run, Mayghyn Keffer, 1600 meter run, Kimberly Eikleberry, 200 meter hurdles, and Leanna Scott, long jump. The boys also won overall with a score of 96. Their first place finishers were: Kayson Hidey, shot put, Brady McAfee, discus, Vitto Parziale, 100 meter dash, Jacob Quito, 200 meter dash, Cooper Thompson, 400 meter dash, Brady Hyre, 800 meter run and high jump, Beau Rinkes, 110 meter hurdles and 200 meter hurdles, and the boys also placed first in the 4x100 meter relay, 4x200 meter relay, and 4x400 meter relay.

Varsity Track Hosts Quad

On Tuesday, April 26, the Harrison Central varsity boys’ and girls’ track teams had a home meet against Edison, Catholic Central and Martins Ferry. The girls’ field events placers were: high jump, Danica Rensi 1st and Grace Dulkoski 2nd. Carys Haney placed 3rd in discus and 1st in shot put, Ava Carson was 3rd in pole vault and Grace Goudy 1st in long jump. Placers for the girls’ running were: Grace Goudy 2nd in 100 meter hurdles, Nadia Tweedy 2nd in the 400 meter dash, Kendal Hercules 3rd in the 800 meter run, while the 4x400 meter relay and 4x200 meter relay teams both placed 2nd, and the 4x100 meter relay got 3rd place. As for the boys’ field events, Hunter Boals placed 1st in shot put and Taylor Cope ended in 3rd. Taylor Cope also won 1st in discus, breaking the school record with 148.9 while Grayden Sproull placed 2nd and Hunter Boals 3rd. Brent Malcom got 1st place in long jump and Colton Howell got 3rd. The boys’ running team placers were: the 4x800 meter and 4x100 meter placed 2nd and the 4x200 meter placed 3rd. Brent Malcom won the 110 meter hurdles and 2nd in 300 meter hurdles. Charles Garbrandt placed 3rd in the 1600 meter run and Aiden Hays placed 2nd in the 3200 meter run. The boys placed 2nd overall, while the girls placed 3rd!

Baseball Splits with Garaway

On Tuesday, April 26, the varsity baseball team hosted the Garaway Pirates. Unfortunately, the Huskies came up short with a score of 7-1, making their season record 11-5. Todd Stringer was the starting pitcher for the Huskies. The junior varsity team traveled to Garaway, where they won 8-4.

Softball Falls to Weir in OVAC Semi-Final

On Tuesday, April 26, the girls’ softball team played Weir, at the I-470 fields, for the OVAC Semi-Finals. Although both teams finished the night with no errors, the Huskies unfortunately were defeated with a score of 3-1.

Baseball Falls to Big Red

On Wednesday, April 27, the varsity and junior varsity baseball teams played Steubenville. The varsity team traveled to Steubenville, where they were unfortunately defeated with a score of 9-5. The junior varsity hosted Steubenville also being defeated with a score of 8-5.

Junior High Track Buckeye 8

On Wednesday, April 27, the junior high boys’ and girls’ teams traveled to Edison to compete in the Buckeye 8 track meet. They competed against Cambridge, Martins Ferry, St.Clairsville, Edison, and Bellaire. The girls placed sixth, with a score of 43. Their first place winner was Destiny Bethel in the girls high jump. The boys were Buckeye 8 Champions, with a score of 130. The first place winners were: Nico Wurschum in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash, along with the 4x100 meter relay, Brady Hyre in the 400 meter dash, 800 meter dash and high jump, Beau Rinkes in the 110 meter hurdles, and Jacob Quito, Andrew Cox, and Vitto Parziale in the 4x100 meter relay.

Softball Wins Big Over St. Clairsville

On Thursday, April 28, the girls’ softball team traveled to St. Clairsville to play against the Red Devils. The Huskies brought home a win with a final score of 18-5. Congratulations to Sarah Touville for hitting a grand slam!

The Boys Baseball team came up a little short in the OVAC 4A Championship Game against Cambridge 5-0. Congratulations on a Runner-Up finish!

Congratulations to Coach Hayes, Matt Smith, and Trevor Carman on being selected to participate in the North/South All-Star Football Classic.

April is for Autism Awareness

In April we recognized Abuse Awareness along with Harrison County Job and Family Services. Kindergarten through 3rd grades participated in a coloring contest while grades 4-6 wrote essays on family and kindness. All winners received gift certificates from Cadiz’s own IceCream Island.

Congratulations to Morgan Stock (who earned 1st place) and her 5th grade classmates who were the winners in the essay contest hosted by Job and Family Services in honor of Child Abuse/Neglect Awareness Month.
