Huskies Talk Issue 24

Physicals Scheduled

School nurses, Mrs. Kulow and Mrs. Cummings arranged with Harrison Community Hospital to have Bus Driver Physicals scheduled for May 26th. and May 27th. and Sports Physicals provided June 1st. AM and June 6th. PM. All physicals will be at Harrison Central and exact times will be provided in the future.

Superintendent's Updates

Mrs. Snider, Mr. Parker, Mrs. McKinney, and Mr. Madzia attended the Job and Family Services Child Abuse and Neglect Annual Meeting. Congratulations to Tiffany Stock for being honored for her service to our youth.

The Family and Children First Council held their monthly meeting at the Stephenson Building. Mrs. Snider attended and held a presentation about the newly proposed housing complex to be built in Cadiz.

Treasurer's Updates

Mrs. Harding attended the Ohio Association of School Business Officials Conference last week. While there, she attended the final sessions to earn her Certificate of Completion for her yearly investment training.

The treasurer submitted the catastrophic cost report related to expenditures for the FY21 school year.

 

 

Harrison Central Track at St. Clairsville

On Friday, April 8 , the varsity track team competed at St. Clairsville. The boys placed in the following events: Taylor Cope was 4th in discus, with 136-11ft, Grayden Sproull was 8th in discus with 129-05ft, Hunter Boals was 5th in shot put with 45-08ft and Hunter Bittinger was 8th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:14.20.

Girls’ Softball defeats Saint Clairsville

On Saturday, April 8th, the girls’ varsity softball played Saint Clairsville at home. The girls played very well and won against Saint Clairsville. The score was 17-5.

Boys’ Varsity Baseball gets a Strong Win Over Claymont

On Friday, April 8, the boys’ varsity baseball was victorious over Claymont by a score of 10-1. The team suffered its first loss of the season the day before and balanced back wonderfully. Tucker Snyder had his first varsity start and went the full 7 innings to get his first win. This win also set a major milestone for Head Coach Mike Valesko marking his 100th win of his career.

Varsity Baseball teams takes win over Indian Creek

On Monday, April 11, the Huskies varsity baseball team won Monday’s home non-conference game against Indian Creek in extra innings by a score of 6-5. With the win, Harrison Central upgrades its record to 4-1 on the season.

Varsity Baseball lost against Indian Creek

On Tuesday, April 12, the varsity baseball team lost against Indian Creek 9-7. They jumped ahead at the beginning, 7-2, but they couldn’t hold on, letting the Redskins score 6 in the 3rd inning. Treston Nemeth had 2 hits, Jace Madzia and Kaden Jurosko both had one hit.

Junior varsity baseball beats Indian Creek

The Huskies triumphed over Indian Creek on Wednesday, April 13. The score was 6-5.

Harrison Central Track Triangular

On Tuesday, April 12th, the Harrison Central varsity track team had a home meet versus St. Clairsville and East Liverpool. The girls team placed first overall with a score of 113.5. The events the girls placed first in were the 4x800 meter relay, the 4x200 meter relay, the 400 meter dash, the 3200 meter run, the 800 meter run, long jump, discus, and shot put. The boys team placed third overall with a score of 31. The events the boys placed first in were 110 meter hurdles, discus, 4x800 meter relay, 3200 meter run, and the 800 meter run.

Girls varsity and junior varsity softball defeat Indian Creek

On Wednesday, April 13, the girls’ varsity and junior varsity softball teams defeated Indian Creek. The varsity girls’ played first and ended the game with a score of 3-1. After, the junior varsity was a very close competition with a final score of 9-8. Congratulations to both teams for taking the win!

Huskies Varsity Softball Blows Away Bellaire by Ten Runs

On Tuesday, April 12th, the Huskies played Bellaire at home. The Huskies won with a score of 12-2. At the bottom of the first inning the Huskies are up 2-0, at the bottom of the second inning the Huskies are still up with a strong lead of 7-0. The bottom of the fourth inning the Huskies were still up, but Bellaire got on the scoreboard with the score of 10-1. The fifth and final inning the Huskies won 12-2.

On Thursday, April 21, the Harrison Central junior varsity and varsity both faced Indian Creek.

Our girls came out on top with a score of 13-4

Junior Varsity Baseball defeats Toronto

On Tuesday, April 12th, the junior varsity baseball team played at home against Toronto. The boys played a good game with an ending score of 9-3.

McKayla Dunkle Receives 1,000 Point Award

On Tuesday, April 12th, the Huskies Sports Foundation awarded McKayla Dunkle with her 1,000 point award for basketball. Over the 2021-2022 basketball season, McKayla Dunkle had 1,277 points and 926 rebounds. Congratulations on your outstanding achievement!

Take Down Tobacco Campaign

From Monday, April 11th, to Friday, April 13th, the Harrison Central students participated in the Take Down Tobacco Campaign hosted by Mrs. Stock. Along the walls of the school are posters advocating ending smoking where eventually students were encouraged to sign a poster declaring their pledge to never vape in which those posters hang along a wall as well. Not only are they prompting anti-smoking inside the school, however, along the outside are pinwheels revealing the number of students that don’t vape.

Breakfast with Easter Bunny

The music department held a craft show that had Easter themed festivities. And then our softball team contributed to a breakfast with the Easter bunny. Everyone had a good time, especially the kids who got to hang out with their favorite bunny.

Varsity Softball beats Buckeye Local

On Friday, April 15, the Varsity Softball team played at home against Buckeye Local. It was a close game but the Huskie girls’ stuck their ground and ended the game with a score of 4-3.

Varsity Baseball falls to St. Clairsville

On Saturday, April 16, the Varsity Baseball team played the St. Clairsville Red Devils at home. The Red Devils secured an early lead in the third inning, 3-0. By the fourth inning, the Huskies got their bats rolling and took the lead 6-4. By the seventh inning, the teams were tied 6-6, and heading into extra innings. The game ended with a score of 8-6, St. Clairsville taking the win.

Varsity baseball wins over Edison

On Monday April 18, the varsity boys team played at home against the Edison Wildcats. The Huskies had the lead in the third inning, until the middle of the fifth the Wildcats had the lead of 6-4. At the top of the seventh the Wildcats were still in the lead and it was 7-4, The Huskies came out and scored five runs to win the game with a score of 8-7.

Buckeye 8 Track championship at Beaver

On Tuesday, April 19, the boys’ and girls’ varsity track teams traveled to Beaver Local and participated in the Buckeye 8 championship. For the boys’ field events team, Hunter Boals placed 3rd in shot put, Taylor Cope placed 4th in discus and Grayden Sproull ended in 5th. For the running team, the 4x800 relay team won 3rd, and Hunter Bittinger placed 4th in the 800 meter run. For the girls’ field events team, Carys Haney got 5th on discus, and 1st in shot. Danica Rensi placed 4th in High Jump. The girls’ running team got 4th overall in the 4x200 relay and Nadia Tweedy received 3rd in the 400 meter dash.

Prom a Success

On Saturday, April 23, the prom was held at Wallace Lodge. 195 students attended and enjoyed a nice night. Maddy Bender and Jace Madzia were crowned prom princess and prince, while McKayla Dunkle and Joenus Jones were crowned prom queen and king.

STEM with Mrs. Sproull

Third grade STEM students were challenged to design and build a wind powered car using an assortment of materials. The group's that were able to complete that challenge held a race to see whose would travel the farthest.
