| Post-Season AwardsThree senior football players have been awarded post-season awards for their performance this season. Matthew Smith and Nathan Bertolino Football received 1st Team OVAC Class 4A Awards, while Trevor Carman will be playing in the North/South All-Star Classic on April 30, in Massillon. Congratulations to these three students for receiving their post-season awards! - Kat Carman Music Department Trip to DisneyOn February 16 through February 21, the Harrison Central Music Department attended Disney World in Florida. Students from both the choir and band were given the opportunity to attend. They visited all of the parks and spent a lot of time together walking through the parks and having fun. During the days they were there, they participated in workshops, which contained a lot of new ways to sing and play music. They all enjoyed receiving the new knowledge and loved the fun ways they were taught. At the end of the workshop, the shop workers surprised the musicians with clips of them singing and playing music to Disney movies. - Madison Angle Girls’ Basketball Ends SeasonOn Thursday, February 17, the girls basketball team traveled to Morgan High School to battle in their first game of the Sectional Tournament. Unfortunately, the girls lost with a score of 58-40. The season ended with a record of 10-13. McKayla Dunkle had 14 points, Danica Rensi had 9, Maddy Butler had 6, and Emma Fischer had 5. - Angi Ferri FFA TripOn Friday, February 18, the Harrison Central FFA went to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the Farm Machinery Show. This included a trade show, and truck and tractor pulls. The students enjoyed their time at the two day event, returning on Saturday, February 19. - Trista Thompson Boys’ Basketball Splits with Wheeling CentralOn Friday, February 18, the boys’ basketball team fought in a close game against Wheeling Central. Our junior varsity team played a great game and left with a win of 45-38. Following the junior varsity game, the varsity boys started off with a close game, ending the first quarter trailing by three points. The two teams stayed close in score throughout the game, but our Huskies came up short in the end, losing by eight points, 69-61. - Aubrey Wood Wrestling Buckeye 8On Saturday, February 19, the wrestling team was away at East Liverpool for the Buckeye 8. All seven wrestlers placed for Sectionals at Sandy Valley, which will be Saturday, February 26. 106 weight class Justin Sampson, 132 weight class Leland Lopez, 215 weight class Lucas Thomas, and 150 weight class Hunter Bittinger all placed 2nd, 138 weight class Gabe Marbais placed 3rd, 175 weight class Michael Smith placed 4th, and 144 weight class Bryce Wallace placed 6th. All together, the team placed 4th with 131.5 points. - Kaylee Vermillion Boys’ Basketball Falls in Overtime to St. ClairsvilleOn Saturday, February 19, the junior varsity and the varsity boys’ basketball teams played against St. Clairsville. Our junior varsity team played a great game and won with the score of 45-36. Following the junior varsity game, the varsity boys played a really close game that resulted in overtime but unfortunately they lost 57-52. - Nahia Ruiz de Alda Boys’ Basketball Ends SeasonOn Tuesday, February 22, our boys’ varsity basketball team played their sectional game, but sadly ended their season. At the end of the 1st quarter, the score was 17-14, halftime was 36-30, and the end of the 3rd quarter was 53-41. The game unfortunately ended with a final score of 66-53, Sandy Valley. The boys ended their season with a record of 13-9. - Georgia Cox College Credit PlusOn Wednesday, February 23, 11 families attended a meeting about the College Credit Plus program. Mr. Dunlap explained the rules and regulations of the program and the opportunities available in the program. College Credit Plus is an opportunity for students in high school to earn college credits, while still earning their high school credits. Students register for classes through select colleges in the state of Ohio and outside as well. - Peyton Roski District Bowling ChampionshipOn Thursday, February 24, Aleyna Runevitch bowled as an individual in the District Bowling Championship. Aleyna was top qualifier, with a series of 543 pins. Bowling a 543 series made the cut to qualify for the State Bowling Championship, which will be on March 5. - Aleyna Runevitch Academic Challenge Victorious over Buckeye LocalOn Thursday, February, 24, the Harrison Central Academic Challenge team traveled to Buckeye Local. They went into the third round tied, but came out on top, winning 2-1.
