Superintendent's UpdatesMrs. Snider participated in the Harrison County Health Department certification audit. The Jefferson County ESC held their monthly superintendent meeting where it was announced that the ESC has received funding to implement mental health services in five counties. The ESC is hiring 104 more employees and they need mental health workers, teachers, secretaries, fiscal workers, and supervisors. Special Education UpdatesSustained collaboration and consultation relative to providing student services Reviews within special education continue at both the elementary and high school levels. Advance planning within the Intervention Assistance Team is underway. Facilities UpdatesHeld a training for teachers on operation of greenhouse. Foundation complete at football press box. | FFA Week & Staff LunchLast week, February 22-25, the FFA students planned a spirit week for National FFA Week. During the week, students participated in a variety of activities. At the end of the week, lunch was provided for staff, to thank them for their support of the FFA members, all of their activities, and their fundraisers. - Jessica Waid Academic Challenge Team Places Fourth at TournamentOn Saturday, February 26, the Harrison Central Academic Challenge team traveled to Eastern Gateway Community College in Steubenville. Schools from all over the valley joined them, where eventually our Academic Challenge Team placed fourth overall. Out of the four rounds they played, they won two and lost two. The first round consisted of East Liverpool challenging our Harrison Academic Challenge team, and we won by one point. Although that victory did not last to the next round with us losing to Edison. Later, during the ending rounds of the tournament, we followed the same pattern with us beating Indian Creek then losing to St. Clairsville. - TyLynn Smith Prince and Princess TeaOn Saturday, February 26, from 1-3 pm, there was a prince and princess tea party held at the high school. The theater department dressed up as the cast from Beauty and the Beast and other Disney movies, and helped organize a fun event for kids. There were activities like face painting, crown making, sensory play and learning to dance. Thank you to Ashley Doren, Bailie Ray, Karli Ray, Mark Smith, Taya Rocchi and Madison Keller for throwing together such an exciting event! - Kylie Richards Wrestling SectionalsOn Saturday, February 26, the Huskies wrestled in the Sectional Tournament. We will have five wrestlers heading to the District Tournament. Sectional results were: 106 Justin Sampson 2nd place, 138 Gabe Marbias 4th place, 190 Mike Smith 3rd place, 215 Lucas Thomas 2nd place, and 285 Landon Thomas Sectional Champion. 132 Servacio Lopez is an alternate with a 5th place finish. - Jaida Barber 8th Grade Career Center Field TripOn Monday, February 28, 8th grade students traveled to the Career Center. They were given the opportunity to participate in the various classes offered. Students spent twenty minutes in each lab consisting of: construction trades, welding, diesel mechanics, hospitality and computers. Thirty five out of eighty kids applied for next year. The students had a very nice time and they ended the day with a cookie. - Emily Davis Hosted Districts Semi-FinalOn Tuesday, March 1, we hosted a District Semi-Final game for boys basketball, Malvern vs. Shadyside. The score was 61-45, Malvern. We received many wonderful compliments on our facility! - Gretchin Dulkoski District Wrestling TournamentThe District Wrestling Tournament was held at Heath High School this past weekend. Tipton’s kindergarten drew pictures for military men and women who will be receiving a box this Easter from the Harrison County Military Support Group. Planting SunflowersTo go along with their weekly story, Soil, Mrs. Doty’s second grade planted sunflowers. Spelling CentersMrs. Knight’s second grade practiced their phonics and spelling skills this week with centers. Students wrote sentences using their words, built their words out of playdoh and letter cubes, and used stamp pads. Making MapsIn Mr. Bengier’s social studies class, the 4th grade students had to follow directions to make their own map. Fourth Grade Visits Mrs. Taylor’s ClassOur 4th graders had the amazing opportunity to visit Mrs. Taylor and see a demonstration on the Anatomage table. We got to see the human heart, brain and eye. The students were so excited for this experience and hope to visit again. Fifth Grade Learns About IcelandMrs. Steele’s fifth grade group got to try Icelandic candy, use math skills to convert Icelandic Krona to US dollars, and vie pictures of Iceland’s culture.
