Homecoming Court

In honor of our 2023 Homecoming, we would like to congratulate those students chosen to represent their classes as attendants and candidates. Pictured from left to right. Freshmen Attendants: Teagan Parks and Ethan Hercules, Sophomore Attendants: Aubree Hodkinson and Logan Milliken, and Junior Attendants: Kaily Banal and Anthony Pelegreen. The senior queen and king candidates are: Ava Carson and Hunter Boals, Nessa Culver and Hayden Cassidy, Emily Davis and Dean Forrester, Alex Dray and Nate Frye, and Aubrey Wood and Parker Hutton. The king will be crowned before the football game, while the queen will be crowned at halftime.

Football Victorious Against East Liverpool

On Friday, September 15 the Huskies hosted the Potters of East Liverpool, who they defeated 37-19. Hayden Cassidy went 14/23 with 166 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mykel Quito led the Huskies with 77 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Parker Hutton had 78 yards receiving with 2 touchdowns on the day. They now sit at a record of 4-1.

Girls’ Soccer Falls to the Electrics

On Saturday, September 16, the girls’ soccer team traveled to Philo, to take on the Electrics. There were only three girls who had shots on goal; Lily Gibbons with 1 shot, Emma Patterson with one shot, and Halei Sweeney with 2 shots. Lilli Smith made an impressive 20 saves for the Huskies. Unfortunately, the lady huskies fell short with a score of 6-0.

Cross Country at Boardman

On Saturday, September 16 the Harrison Central cross country team traveled to Boardman to compete in their invitational. The high school team was led by Tyler Garbrant who placed 269/481 and Gretchin Dulkoski who placed 255/362. The junior high team was led by Bryce Soblenski who placed 157/355 and Aubrie Moss who placed 101/205.

Huskies Conquer Cambridge

On Monday, September 18, the volleyball team traveled to Cambridge to play against the Bobcats. The junior varsity team beat the Bobcats in three sets. The varsity team defeated Cambridge 3-1, losing the first set but made a comeback on the last three sets. The team was led by Maddie Sedgmer with five kills, AnnMarie Corder with seven kills and six digs, Kennedy Dunlap with five kills and 7 digs, Lauren Doane with 12 kills and five digs, Olivia Tonkovich with 7 digs and 21 assists, and Nessa Culver with 11 digs.

Junior High Volleyball Splits with Bellaire

On Tuesday, September 18 the junior high volleyball team traveled to Bellaire. The 7th grade team fell to Bellaire 2-0, while the 8th grade team followed with a big win, with a 2-0 score.

Varsity Volleyball falls to Edison

On Tuesday, September 19, the high school volleyball team hosted Edison. The junior varsity won in three sets. The varsity team lost in four sets, losing the first and second sets 25-17 and 25-23, won the third set 25-11, and lost the fourth set 25-21. The Huskies were led by Lauren Doane with 12 kills, Kennedy Dunlap with 6 kills, and 9 digs, Trista Thompson with 5 kills, Olivia Tonkovich with 7 digs and 22 assists, Nessa Culver with 12 digs, and Ann Marie Corder with 8 digs.

On Tuesday, September 19 the junior high volleyball team battled the Shadyside Tigers. The 7th grade team put up a great battle but eventually fell short. They ended up winning the first set, but they lost the second and 3rd set. The 8th grade had a little struggle and ended up taking the defeat in two sets.

Close Game for Boys’ Soccer

On Tuesday, September 19 the boys’ soccer team played at home against Wheeling Central. The game ended in a tie with a score of 1-1. The one goal that was scored was by #8 Brady Elliot.

Girls’ Soccer Falls to Tusky Valley

On Wednesday, September 20, the girls’ soccer team hosted Tusky Valley. Unfortunately, the girls were defeated with a score of 7-0.

Cross Country Hosts Quad Meet

On Wednesday, September 20, the cross country team competed against Edison, Steubenville, and Weir. For the junior high girls’ team, Aubrie Moss came in second place for managing a time of 15.58.73, and for the boys’ junior high team, Bryce Sobleski came in 4th place managing a time of 15.26.47 and Dylan Blake 24.07.85. The high school girls’ team included, Gretchin Dulkoski in 7th place managing a time of 25.12.47, Jewelene Cunningham in 14th place managing a time of 29.58.90, Jasmine Garabrandt in 16th place managing a time of 34.20.08, and Danielle Drapp in 17th place managing a time of 35.59.87. For the high school boys’ team, Tyler Garabrandt came in 6th place managing a time of 19.56.80, Bryce Wallace came in 10th place managing a time of 20.41.40, and Aiden Hays came in 12th place managing a time of 21.23.40.

Busy Golf Week

The golf team had a busy week, as they played three nights. They traveled to Buckeye Local on Tuesday, September 19, where they fell to the Panthers 175-186. Wednesday, September 20 they traveled to Meadowbrook to take on the Colts and Crooksville, where they split on the night, falling to Meadowbrook and defeating Crooksville. The scores on the night were: Meadowbrook 166, Harrison Central 192, and Crooksville 219. They hosted Oak Glen and Edison on Thursday, September 21, defeating both teams, with scores: Harrison Central 176, Oak Glen 199, and Edison 206.

On Thursday, September 21, the junior high football team played against Martins Ferry. The Huskies were unfortunately defeated with a score of 40-12.

8th Grade Field Trip

The eighth grade teachers were awarded a $742 scholarship from Tuscarawas Valley Heritage, Inc. to take students to Zoar, Ohio for Civil War Days on Friday, September 15th. There were over 15 different first person presentations along with artillery, cavalry, and infantry demonstrations. Our students got to talk with Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, Henry "Box" Brown, a New York Herald Reporter who traveled with President Lincoln, and 1st Sgt. Betram Floyd of the 5th US Colored Troops, Co G.

OVAC Sportsworld Speaker

Students welcomed Jeff Neal, on Wednesday, September 20. He spoke on work ethic and surrounding oneself with positive influences in life. Goal setting, battling adversity, and his success in life and the NFL, while balancing his academic achievements were highlights of his message. Thank you to the OVAC for sponsoring his message and making a positive impression for our students!

Fact Fluency!

Students in Ms. Utter’s class can be seen working on increasing fact fluency with the two minute challenge in PAWS. So far the highest number of addition facts solved in two minutes is 38!

Fifth Grade Recess Fun!

Some of our fifth graders used their recess time to have some fun in the sun by practicing cheers and playing games!

Science Experiments and Learning!

Students with Mrs. Zamski and Mrs. Kocher did fun science experiments with apples this week! Students also worked on number matching with a fun game!

Door Decorating Assistant!

Hazel was a huge help to Miss Kira as they created their door creation for our door decorating competition!

A Visit from Deputy Nameth!

Deputy Nameth stopped into Mrs. Madzia's first block class to share a little about her job and to help the students prepare for their multiplication quizzes. She battled the class in a game of Around the World and while our fourth graders are pretty sharp on their multiplication facts, she went undefeated! The students would probably agree that the doughnuts she brought in for them were the highlight of their morning. We're so thankful we have awesome people like Deputy Nameth working and living in our community and we're hoping she'll be able to make it back to battle another class soon!

4th Grade Science!

Students conducted experiments to introduce their scientific methods lesson. They asked: Does salt/sugar dissolve faster in cold water or in warm water? They found out that they both dissolve faster in warm water! They also used this lesson to reinforce their science safety rules. Great job!
