Boys’ Basketball Falls to Creek

On Friday, January 6, the junior varsity and varsity boys’ basketball teams played at Indian Creek. The junior varsity team had a rough start but ended up with a win, 43-22. The varsity team could not get a single shot to drop, unfortunately falling with a final score of 49-26.

Boys’ Basketball Defeated by Steubenville

On Saturday, January 7, the boys’ basketball teams visited Steubenville. The junior varsity team lost 51-28. The varsity team would also go on to lose 63-51.

Junior High Wrestling at Barnesville Invite

On Saturday, January 7, the junior high wrestling team traveled to Barnesville for an invitational against 23 teams. They came home with 18th place overall, with Andrew Alberts placing 4th in the 104lb weight class.

Cheerleaders Hold First Ever Invitational

On Saturday, January 7, the Harrison Central Cheerleaders hosted their first ever competition. Schools from around the valley came and competed. Claymont won grand champion in the high school divisions and Martins Ferry Jr. High won Judges Pick in the junior high divisions. Congratulations to all and thank you to everyone who made this event possible!

Junior High Girls’ Basketball Defeats Cambridge

On Saturday, January 7, the junior high girls’ basketball team traveled to Cambridge. Both teams were victorious. The 7th grade won 30-4 and the 8th grade won 39-23.  

 

Junior High Boys’ Basketball Splits Against Martins Ferry

On Monday, January 9, the junior high boys’ basketball team played at home against Martins Ferry. The 7th grade team had a big win 25-16, and played really well in the 4th quarter. Although the 8th grade team played hard, they unfortunately lost 52-18.

Girls’ Basketball Defeats Beaver Local

On Monday, January 9, the girls’ basketball team played away at Beaver Local. Unfortunately, the junior varsity was defeated by the Beavers. The final score of the game was 26-19. On the other hand, the varsity team won with an astounding score of 70-36.

Boys’ Basketball Victorious Over Wildcats

On Tuesday, January 10, the varsity boys’ basketball team hosted the Edison Wildcats. The final score was 86-45. Hayden Cassidy scored 22 points, Clayton Vermillion scored 15 points along with 8 rebounds, Mykel Quito scored 12 points along with 10 rebounds, Cabot Arbaugh scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds, Jace Madzia with 7 points, and Kaden Jurosko had 3 blocks. Junior varsity also won with a score of 68-29.

Bowling Splits with Barnesville

On Tuesday, January 10, the bowling teams hosted the Barnesville Shamrocks. The girls varsity team defeated the Shamrocks 1701-1608, while the varsity boys lost 1963-1915. The junior varsity girls won 1303-838, and the junior varsity boys fell 1404-1174.

District Spelling Bee

The District Spelling Bee was held in the auditorium on Wednesday, January 11. The top eight finishers will compete in the Regional Spelling Bee on March 11. Our champion for the District Spelling Bee was Sophia Sedgmer, 2nd place Katylnn Summers, 3rd place Paige Maffitt, 4th place Jaydin Hilton, 5th place Morgan Stock, 6th place Phoebe Gaffoli, 7th place Joseph Taylor, 8th place Madison Taylor, Alternate 1 and 2 was Kody O’Day and Lynden Myers. Congratulations to the qualifying students!

Wrestling Celebrates Senior Night with a Win

On Wednesday, January 11, the junior high and varsity wrestling team hosted their final home dual of the season and their senior night against Cambridge. Congratulations to seniors Lorenzo Chiarpotto, Servacio Lopez, and Michael Smith who were honored. The varsity defeated the Bobcats, 54-21. Picking up wins for the Huskies were; 285lb Landon Thomas (forfeit), 106lb Zane Carson, 126lb Jaydis Yoho, 132lb Andrew Cox, 144lb Servacio Lopez, 150lb Bryce Wallace (forfeit), 157lb Hunter Bittinger (forfeit), 175lb Michael Smith, 190lb RJ Hendershot, and 215lb Lucas Thomas (forfeit). Despite a 18-0 start, the junior high fell to the Bobcats 42-24.

Girls Basketball Falls to Indian Creek

On Thursday, January 12, the girls’ basketball team hosted the Indian Creek Redskins. The junior varsity team fell 25-10, while the varsity team was defeated 54-39.

Boys’ Bowling Defeats Wellsville

On Thursday, January 12, the boys’ bowling team hosted Wellsville. The boys were victorious 1986-1745.

Junior High Girls’ Basketball Falls to Barnesville

On Thursday, January 12, the junior high girls’ basketball team traveled to Barnesville to take on the Shamrocks. The 7th grade fell with a final score of 40-20, while the 8th grade was defeated with a final score of 43-6.

Harrison Central’s high school students participate with the elementary students as part of our Wellness Mentoring Program.

The Huskies Way

23 Elementary School classes participated in the Huskies Way Rewards this 9 weeks. Students enjoyed time in the gym with the High School leadership students and a movie in the auditorium. Junior High and High School Huskies Way Students were also rewarded with donuts and hot chocolate. Keep doing things the Huskies Way!

Science Experiments

Miss Tosha and Miss Kira’s class did a science experiment where they made volcanoes and watched them erupt!

 

December Book-It

Mrs. Turner’s class had some Book-It stars for December!

 

6th Grade STEM

Mrs. Paul’s sixth graders did an activity sent to them compliments of Ascent Resources. The students built an oil derrick and then used weights to see how much it would support. Great job!

 

Snow Day Activity

Mrs. Turner’s students did an activity about snow days and made these amazing snowmen!

 

Rudolph Gifts

These are some of  the Rudolph gifts preschool made for their parents. It is something they can put out every year to remember how tall they were in pre-K. Preschool couldn’t have done it without the help of Cain Noble and his classes!

 

Positive Behavior Shoutouts

Students were rewarded with shoutouts for having positive behaviors at school! Great job!

 

Sweet Observations

4th graders completed an activity called Sweet Observations. Students used their observation skills to see, touch, etc the candy and then found the length, volume, and mass. How fun!

 

Newsworthy Patriots

Tune into WTRF to watch some of our students do the Pledge of Allegiance! Students will be featured on News 7 at 6 a.m. January 26th through February 1st!
