Huskies Talk Issue 7

  

Football Victorious against Waterford

  
 

 
  

On Friday, October 6, the Huskies traveled to Waterford to play against the Waterford Wildcats. They won with a score of 28-14. Hayden Cassidy went 11/21 with 199 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mykel Quito rushed for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns. Parker Hutton went for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Huskies record is now 6-2!

Girls’ Soccer Defeats Cambridge

  
 

 
  

On Saturday, October 7 the girls’ soccer team hosted Cambridge. The Huskies ended the game victorious over Cambridge. The game had a final score of 6-0. Angi Ferri led the Huskies with five goals, while Emma Patterson added the sixth. Assists came from Lily Gibbons, Emma Patterson, and Alex Dray, each contributing one. Vanessa Dowdle had five saves.

Boys’ Soccer Ties with Indian Creek

  
 

 
  The boys’ soccer team traveled to Indian Creek on Saturday, October 7. The game ended in a tie, 5-5. The Huskies’ goals were scored by Caleb Miller, Brady Elliott, and Kayden Dunkle. Jaydis Yoho had seven saves.  
  

Cross Country OVAC

  
 

 
  

On Saturday, October 7, the cross country team traveled to Cambridge for the OVAC meet. For the junior high, Bryce Sobleski was 93rd, out of 178, and Aubrie Moss was 58th, out of 162. In high school, Bryce Wallace came in 130th, out of 229, and Gretchin Dulkoski came in 103rd, out of 194.

Girls’ Soccer Falls to Wheeling Central

  
 

 
  

On Monday, October 9, the girls’ soccer team hosted Wheeling Central. Although Vanessa Dowdle had 13 saves, they came up short with a score of 6-0.

Volleyball Defeated by Barnesville

  
 

 
  

The volleyball team hosted Barnesville on Monday, October 9. The junior varsity lost 2-0, while the varsity lost in 4 sets. The first set was 12-25, the second was 19-25, the third was 25-22 and the last set was 18-25. Lauren Doane had 11 kills, Maddie Sedgmer had 9 digs and 6 kills, Madison Zeroski had 6 kills and 3 blocks, AnnMarie Corder had 5 kills, Kennedy Dunlap had 18 digs, Taylor Nemeth had 6 digs, Olivia Tonkovich had 23 assist and 7 digs, Nessa Culver had 18 digs, and Leah Grady had 10 assists.

8th Grade Volleyball Tournament Play

  
 

 
  

On Monday, October 9, the 8th grade volleyball team played St. Clairsville at the Bellaire Tournament. They were victorious with a score of 2-0, which took them to play the next night.

Junior High Volleyball Wraps Up Season

  
 

 
  

On Tuesday, October 10, the junior high volleyball teams traveled to Bellaire for tournaments. They competed against Martins Ferry. 7th grade fell in two sets, while the 8th grade lost in three sets. This concludes their season.

On Wednesday, October 11, the boys’ soccer team hosted Tusky Valley on Senior Night. Tusky Valley got the best of the Huskies, winning 8-0.

Cross Country Hosts Home Meet

  
 

 
  

On October 11, the cross country team hosted a tri-meet against East Liverpool and Weir. Our top finishers were Tyler Garabrant and Gretchin Dulkoski for the high school, and Bryce Sobleski and Aubrie Moss for the junior high team.

Volleyball OVAC Consolation

  
 

 
  

On Thursday, October 12, the volleyball team hosted Bridgeport and Conotton Valley in OVAC consolation play. The Huskies defeated Bridgeport 25-6 and 25-7, then fell to Conotton Valley, 2-1, with scores of 26-24, 15-25, 15-25. They were led by Leah Doane with 13 kills, Kennedy Dunlap with 10 digs, Nessa Culver with 20 digs, Taylor Nemeth with five digs, Olivia Tonkovich with seven digs and 12 assists, and Leah Grady with 12 assists.

Thursday, October 12, the girls’ soccer team traveled to Magnolia and were victorious with a score of 4-0. Angi Ferri made the first goal and had 1 assist, Lily Gibbons had 2 goals and 1 assist, and Alex Dray had 1 goal and 1 assist.

Junior High Football Finishes Season with a Win

  
 

 
  The junior high football team hosted Tuscarawas Central Catholic on Thursday, October 12 for their final game of the season. The Huskies defeated the Saints, finishing their season with a record of 5-2.

Guest Speaker

  
 

 
  

On Monday, October 9, students in grades 7th-12th listened to a guest speaker. Mr. Dave Roever, a Purple Heart recipient, who served in the U.S. Navy as a Brown Water Beret during the Vietnam War, came to our school to talk about his story. He sustained life-threating injuries, which left him severely scared. He used those scars to share a message of tragedy and triumph.

Tall Tree Yoga

  
  The fourth grade implemented yoga at the beginning of reading class as a way to promote focus and concentration. This week, the students did the Tall Tree pose. They used artificial tree branches as they visualized their favorite trees swaying in the breeze. Then, they imagined a squirrel climbing the tree and rustling the leaves making their branches shiver.  
 

 
  

Second Grade Field Trip!

  
  Second graders went on a field trip this week to a pumpkin patch! They played games, went on slides, picked pumpkins and more fun fall related activities!
