Athletic Event Threat Detection System FAQ
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe environment at all athletic events, Harrison Hills City School District has implemented new Threat Detection Systems at all entrance points. Below are some frequently asked questions to help guide you through the process.
What is the purpose of the new threat detection machines at athletic events?
The new machines are designed to enhance safety at all athletic events by providing a fast, efficient, and non-intrusive screening process for attendees. They are part of our ongoing efforts to protect our students, staff, and community members while maintaining a welcoming environment.
Who will be required to go through the screening process at athletic events?
All spectators and visitors attending athletic events will be required to go through the screening system. This includes parents, guests, and other attendees.
How many lanes will be available for screening at athletic events?
We will have multiple screening lanes available at each athletic entrance to ensure a smooth and efficient process for everyone.
How do the machines work?
The machines use advanced technology to quickly scan attendees as they walk through, detecting potential threats without the need to stop. A green light indicates that you are free to proceed, while a red light indicates a potential threat and you will be asked to step aside for further screening.
What items should be removed before passing through the detection machines?
Please remove all electronic devices (e.g., cell phones, tablets, smartwatches, and AirPods), keys, coins, bags, and any metal objects from your pockets or belongings before passing through the machine. There will be a table near the detection system for you to place these items.
What happens if the red light flashes?
If the red light flashes, it means the system has detected a potential threat. A law enforcement officer will assist in checking the item. Once cleared, you will be able to continue into the event.
How long will the screening process take?
The process is designed to be quick and efficient, allowing spectators to enter the event with minimal delay. However, we recommend arriving early to allow for the screening process, especially during the first few events.
Can individuals with medical devices pass through the machines?
Yes, individuals with medical devices or concerns about how the machine may interact with their device can pass through the system safely. If you have a medical device or any concerns, please notify the law enforcement officer or school personnel before entering. We will work to ensure a smooth and safe process.
Will there be any exceptions to the screening process at athletic events?
At this time, everyone, including those with medical concerns or devices, will go through the screening process. If you need assistance or have any concerns, please reach out to the law enforcement officer at the entrance.
Will this process apply to all athletic events?
Yes, the Threat Detection System will be in place at all athletic events held on campus, including both indoor and outdoor events.
Is this a permanent change for athletic events?
Yes, the implementation of threat detection systems is part of our long-term commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals at our athletic events.
